WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from November 27

WWE Survivor Series was a night of failure for Friday Night SmackDown, though it was a close fight. The blue brand's champions mostly reigned supreme, but the traditional elimination tag team matches went to Monday Night Raw.

Roman Reigns emerged victorious thanks to the support of Jey Uso. He helped take down Drew McIntyre when the referee was injured. However, Uso also fell short as team captain of the men's SmackDown team. He needed to prove his worth to The Tribal Chief.

Sasha Banks defeated Asuka in one of the biggest confidence boosting moments of her career. Carmella though waits in the wings, looking to knock her off her pedestal. The rest of the SmackDown women's division fell short, losing just barely down the stretch despite Bianca Belair's best efforts.

The Street Profits had much to prove, stepping into the ring with New Day. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins proved it all with an emphatic show-stealing performance that should have put the blue brand tag teams on notice.

Sami Zayn may have given any future challenger the green light to go after him, following an embarrassing defeat against Bobby Lashley. However, he maintains the narrative that he was cheated and will continue to refuse to accept "faulty" results.

This November 27 edition of SmackDown has to rebuild the pieces on a brand that prided itself on being the best. Only the truly great performers could rise to the occasion.

Roman Reigns Calls Out Jey Uso for Failing the Family

1 OF 6

Jey Uso hyped up the victory of Roman Reigns over Drew McIntyre. The Tribal Chief interrupted the hype promo, heading to the ring on his own time. A video package was shown, highlighting Uso's failure as team captain for the men's SmackDown team followed by his help in defeating The Scottish Psychopath.

Reigns questioned why Uso got involved in the main event before quickly saying that his cousin had embarrassed the family by not garnering the respect of his team. Uso was left unable to speak. As Otis walked out for his match with King Corbin, Jey made his mark with a vicious steel chair attack.

    Grade

    A-

    Analysis

As always, The Tribal Chief is carrying SmackDown forward with character moments every week. He cut a fantastic and focused promo. Uso sold just how much every word cut deep.

This was a strong segment, even if it repeated points from Survivor Series. Reigns made clear that SmackDown's failure mattered, and it lit a fire under Uso. Jey's attack on Otis was needed to continue building him as a top heel.

The Street Profits vs. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode

2 OF 6

    Credit: WWE.com

Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler refused to give anyone credit except themselves, certain they deserved the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. The Street Profits felt Roode and Ziggler were making fun of them, mocking the duo for their fashion choices.

The Showoff dodged an early attempt at a frog splash to help the heels take over the pace of the clash. Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford fought back and hit a spinebuster into a frog splash for a nearfall that Ziggler broke up. In the ensuing chaos, The Glorious One rolled up Ford with a handful of tights for three.

    Result

Roode and Ziggler def. Street Profits by pinfall.

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

This was a fun tag team match, even when the pace rushed. These teams are too talented with too much chemistry not to work well together. It was an entertaining clash of styles where The Glorious One and The Showoff have a more grounded focus than the SmackDown tag team champions.

This victory by the heels sets up an interesting match for WWE TLC. Hopefully, the SmackDown tag team division gets a decent spotlight. The Street Profits should be highlighted as champions every major show, but the tag team division has been ignored repeatedly.

Sami Zayn vs. Daniel Bryan

3 OF 6

A recap was shown for The Final Farewell to The Undertaker. In a backstage interview, Daniel Bryan explained that he was calm and focused in his pursuit of the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

Sami Zayn complained that The Planet's Champion did not deserve another shot after losing at WrestleMania 36. Bryan interrupted the rant and went after The Critic of the Critics. Stomps and a dropkick grounded Zayn until he threw his challenger outside.

Bryan fought back quickly and forced Zayn to the top rope to set up a Frankensteiner for a two count. The WWE intercontinental champion connected on a brainbuster on the apron that nearly got a count out victory followed by a nearfall on the Blue Thunder Bomb.

The Planet's Champion rolled the champion into the Yes Lock, and The Critic of the Critics tried to run. Bryan followed, and Zayn ran him around and got back to the ring for count out win.

    Result

Zayn def. Bryan by count out.

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

Going into the night, Bryan vs. Zayn sounded like the main event, and the two worked it like a main event. This was intense throughout, and the two men had their best clash together to date. It was a showcase of the immense talent of the top stars.

This was one of the best matches on SmackDown in months. Zayn continues to thrive as an opportunist. Even if he deserves to look more dominant, he has had great matches and made every finish memorable.

Bianca Belair vs. Natalya

4 OF 6

Bayley watched this match with avid interest on commentary. Bianca Belair found herself struggling early with the technical prowess of Natalya. Finally, The EST's power allowed her dump The Queen of Harts outside.

The Role Model took a punch from Belair followed by Belair throwing Natalya into Bayley. The impact with the former SmackDown women's champion dazed The Queen of Harts, who got rolled up for three by The EST.

    Result

    Belair def. Natalya by pinfall.

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

This started out strong, but the messy inclusion of Bayley rushed the contest to a finish. Natalya and Belair have chemistry and a much better match in them. For the moment, this was a fascinating tease for the future.

In an immediate sense, it is a smart decision to pair The Role Model and The EST. Bayley has been made as one of the absolute best. She can help building Belair to title contention.

King Corbin vs. Murphy (w/ the Mysterio Family)

5 OF 6

King Corbin made fun of the Mysterio family backstage for believing in Murphy while also mocking Dominik Mysterio's ability in the ring.

With Otis taken out early in the night, Murphy took the big man's place, hoping to shut up The King. Everyone in the Mysterio family helped protect Aalyah's boyfriend, stopping Corbin from doing anything untoward.

After Corbin planted Murphy with the Deep Six, Rey Mysterio distracted the referee. This aggravated The King as he beat down Murphy into the mat. However, a final distraction from Dominik allowed Murphy to land a bicycle knee for the three count with the help of Dominik again knocking Corbin's leg off the rope.

An angry Corbin demanded a rematch next week, promising he would back up.

    Result

    Murphy def. Corbin by pinfall.

    Grade

    D

    Analysis

This match made no sense. Corbin did nothing wrong, yet the Mysterios screwed him at every turn. Even if The King insulted the family, it was still not remotely a face move for the Mysterios to constantly block all of Corbin's offense.

Murphy and Corbin showed vague chemistry in moments that could work better with no one involved. Hopefully, the two get a better chance next week, though it is more likely the extra bodies will make the contest even more chaotic.

Jey Uso vs. Kevin Owens

6 OF 6

Sami Zayn made fun of Apollo Crews until Big E stepped in. He made clear that The Critic of the Critics was just one misstep away from losing his title. Sasha Banks attacked Carmella as she taunted The Legit Boss. Billie Kay tried to talk her way into a commentary job but was escorted away.

In the gorilla position, after Daniel Bryan's match with Zayn, Jey Uso beat down Bryan until Kevin Owens pulled him off. KO stood up to Roman Reigns and Uso, telling The Tribal Chief that he was messing with his family's mind.

Uso went after the left arm of Owens, trapping him in the ropes until KO raked the eyes to escape. Owens finally took back control thanks to a catapult into the steel post followed by a series of superkicks. Owens showed no fear as he smashed Jey with a senton bomb off the apron to the floor.

The damage to KO's left arm was too much over time as he began to find himself missing the pop-up powerbomb. Owens got his knees up on an Uso splash, but he couldn't put this away. Jey grabbed a steel chair, causing a disqualification.

Owens fought off Uso with a stunner then threw Jey over the announce table before grabbing a steel chair of his own. He called out Reigns as he smacked down Uso. He demanded The Tribal Chief face him, but Reigns and Paul Heyman only watched from backstage.

    Result

    KO def. Uso by disqualification.

    Grade

    A-

    Analysis

We have gotten to the point where Jey can main event SmackDown most weeks, and it never feels wrong. While this was nowhere near the work of Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan, the two had a serious story to tell. Uso went all out, selling his growing aggression.

The way Owens took over the action at times showed how uncomfortable Jey was with that role, but Uso ultimately took back control at every turn, hearing Reigns' voice in his head. When Uso lost it, it was because that voice grew too loud, and he did not care about winning anymore.

It is unclear who will challenge Reigns next. Both Bryan and KO have fallen to Uso, but they have also won, standing up to The Tribal Chief along the way. The talent of both men is obvious, and they deserve a main event title shot sooner rather than later

WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from November 25

NXT TakeOver: WarGames approaches, and the November 25 edition of WWE NXT heralded that event with matches to set up the big contests to come.

Undisputed Era returned the previous week to begin a fight with The Kings of NXT that ended with William Regal announcing the two would fight in WarGames. Pete Dunne was set to represent Pat McAfee's team in a ladder match against a member of UE to determine who would have the advantage in WarGames.

Candice LeRae has established many enemies, who she is likely to face inside WarGames as members of Shotzi Blackheart's team. However, her first challenge was Ember Moon, who looked to continue building momentum toward a title opportunity.

With Wade Barrett out for the week, owens stepped in as a special guest commentator. No one knew what he would say, or who would try to take their shot at a former NXT and WWE universal champion?

This show had work left to do to build toward TakeOver. While both WarGames were set, the show still needed to establish the rest of the card and give everyone something to be excited about.

Ember Moon vs. Candice LeRae (w/ Indi Hartwell)

1 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

Candice LeRae tried to slow the pace early, whispering orders for Indi Hartwell to help her. The War Goddess was not interested, slamming The Poison Pixie against every surface. LeRae attempted to walk out, but Moon went after her. Outside the ring, LeRae finally managed to get the advantage.

The Poison Pixie used short slams and clotheslines to ground The War Goddess for a time. As Moon rallied, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez arrived to support LeRae, leaving Moon badly outnumbered.

This allowed LeRae to wear down Moon with the Gargano Escape into a sleeper hold that the outnumbered babyface barely escaped. Kai and Gonzalez distracted The War Goddess during another rally.

Hartwell took the Eclipse for LeRae, setting up The Poison Pixie to hit a superkick into the Wicked Stepsister for the win. Afterward, Moon tried to escape, but Toni Storm attacked The War Goddess and threw her into the waiting arms of the heels.

    Result

    LeRae def. Moon by pinfall.

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

This was a fun TV match, but the pacing kept the contest from rising above second gear. Moon and LeRae have so much better in them down the line. For the moment, this was a fine first act in a rivalry that could come to fruition in 2021.

Immediately, it seems The War Goddess has a variety of opponents. While she is still fighting Kai and Gonzalez, she has another enemy in a newly turned heel Storm.

The former NXT UK women's champion has teased a heel persona for the past month, but it seemed like NXT was waiting for the right moment to strike. This was rushed after so many opportunities missed, but Storm should be a fantastic heel, especially rising to meet Io Shirai soon.

Kyle O'Reilly Demands the Opportunity to FIght Pete Dunne

2 OF 8

Legado del Fantasma talked privately about bringing the cruiserweight division to the forefront. Santos Escobar was not worried about any challenger, even his next opponent Curt Stallion.

Undisputed Era arrived to talk about The Kings of NXT. Adam Cole gave credit to Pat McAfee and his crew for giving this group a taste of their own medicine. Kyle O'Reilly demanded the chance at Pete Dunne in the ladder match. UE all agreed it was the right move.

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

This did not need to happen in the ring. It was a backstage two minute interview stretched out to five. Still, it is good to see Undisputed Era back, and the fire from O'Reilly sold how much the main event truly means to him beyond just advantage in WarGames.

UE's run in NXT has certainly been unforgettable, but it does seem like the quartet is reaching an end. This group's chemistry was not as on point as usual. O'Reilly seems to be moving beyond the group on his own merit while Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong need a fresh angle.

Timothy Thatcher vs. Kushida

3 OF 8

Timothy Thatcher's students watched this technical match closely backstage while Tommaso Ciampa took a seat on the stage to watch closely.

Kushida tried to catch Thatcher with a variety of submissions, but the technical expert was one step ahead of the Japanese Superstar. Thatcher trapped Kushida's leg in the ropes with a leg wrench until the referee forced the break.

The two brawled to the mat where they struggled for holds. Every submission was an opportunity for a counter. Kushida sent Thatcher careening to the floor after blocking a sleeper then sent his left arm hard into the ramp.

The technical expert looked out of sorts against Kushida, but he managed to land an underhook suplex. This caused Ciampa to stand up from his chair. The distraction of The Blackheart standing allowed Kushida to trap Thatcher in the Hoverboard Lock for the tap out.

    Result

    Kushida def. Thatcher by pinfall.

    Grade

    A-

    Analysis

This was a technical clinic. Kushida and Thatcher clicked from the outset, putting on a brutal and impressive display unlike anything else in NXT. The two technicians showed why they are vital to the black-and-gold brand, which has been known for a particular style for so long.

Making Thatcher tap out was the biggest win of the Japanese Superstar's NXT career yet. This was a set up for a run at the very top. Kushida is suited to be the next challenger to Finn Balor when the NXT champion is ready to get back in the ring.

Thatcher vs. Ciampa continues to build, and that should be a match at the next TakeOver. The two are among the best of the black-and-gold brand. They can kick off WarGames with a match that could rival the brutality inside the double cage.

Leon Ruff vs. Johnny Gargano vs. Damian Priest Made Official on Kevin Owens Show

4 OF 8

The Kevin Owens Show made a special appearance in NXT with special guest Leon Ruff. A confident Ruff stepped into the ring with the NXT North American Championship firmly in hand. KO tried to build that confidence all the more in the champion.

Johnny Gargano arrived after Ruff named him. The Rebel Heart was not interested in Ruff's feel-good story. Damian Priest arrived shortly thereafter, stating that Ruff is better than Gargano.

William Regal arrived to announce that Ruff vs. Gargano vs. Priest for the NXT North Amreican Championship at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

Finn Balor explained in a black-and-white interview that he was watching WarGames closely, waiting for someone to step up to him.

    Grade

    B+

    Analysis

This was a ton of fun, mainly because of KO. The promos did their job, even if there was not much there to talk about. What really sold it all was the brazen way that Owens pointed out the tropes before they happened. By making it clear that he was in on it all, the expected tropes felt less generic.

This triple threat match has serious potential. In particular, it could allow Ruff to have the biggest performance of his career. His story of proving himself against the best is what will carry this contest past the repetitive feeling of Gargano vs. Priest.

Cameron Grimes vs. Jake Atlas

5 OF 8

Jake Atlas tried to push the pace against Cameron Grimes, but The Technical Savage was more interested in doing damage. The two men went back and forth until a standing Spanish Fly stopped Atlas cold, followed by a quick Cave In for the victory.

Dexter Lumis arrived and showed off his specially made video of Grimes' constant running. He offered a strap to Grimes, which The Technical Savage would not agree to wear.

William Regal told Grimes backstage that he would fight Lumis in a strap match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

    Result

    Grimes def. Atlas by pinfall.

    Grade

    C-

    Analysis

Atlas put on a great showing against Santos Escobar recently, and this felt like the right time to show that he can hang with top competitors. Instead, he was treated as enhancement talent, losing in short order to a supposed coward.

What came afterward was better. The video by Lumis spoke for him, and The Tortured Artist set the stage for a hopeful final match. A strap match makes sense for the two, though it would have made just as much sense to lower the WarGames cage and have a steel cage match between them.

Candice LeRae Ruins Rhea Ripley's Moment

6 OF 8

Backstage, LeRae introduced her team for WarGames: herself, Kai, Gonzalez and Storm.

Rhea Ripley put over Io Shirai in a pre-taped interview showing their match last week. The Nightmare was not sure what she would do next.

In the ring, The Nightmare explained that she was still focused on the NXT Women's Championship and was not leaving the black-and-gold brand. Candice LeRae interrupted with Toni Storm, mocking Ripley. Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez arrived, carrying Shirai.

The heels stormed the ring and took down The Nightmare. They made sure to deal serious damage to Ripley, wanting to make sure she could not compete at WarGames, much like they did Ember Moon earlier in the night.

LeRae and her team explained that the heels would hurt absolutely anyone in the way of a victory at WarGames. She announced that Gonzalez would beat Shotzi Blackheart next week to earn WarGames advantage. Johnny Gargano arrived, and he, LeRae, Indi Hartwell and another Ghostface drove away.

    Grade

    B-

    Analysis

While the segment made sense, this felt less necessary than it should. Ripley barely got a chance to even tease that she might leave NXT. Instead, the intrigue was immediately dashed, and the focus was on the heels attacking more women.

The entire women's division revolves around the WarGames match, but NXT has so much talent in the women's match. Even if LeRae, Kai, Gonzalez and Storm vs. Blackheart, Ripley, Shirai and Moon will be an incredible match, The Genius of the Sky and The Nightmare did not need to be involved.

The Grizzled Young Veterans Return

7 OF 8

Xia Li and Boa were forced into a car where they were driven to meet the old man, who had marked Boa previously. They met a mysterious woman.

Ever-Rise looked to build some momentum again as a tag team. Instead, The Grizzled Young Veterans returned to attack them. James Drake and Zack Gibson beat down Chase Parker and Matt Martel, announcing their arrival back in NXT.

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

Returns do not get simpler than this. An Ever-Rise match was never going to a featured moment on the show, so The Grizzled Young Veterans made a statement instead.

Gibson and Drake are two of the best tag team wrestlers in WWE, so they are absolutely needed back in the division. Whether they go after Undisputed Era, Breezango or others, this team adds needed depth to a strong tag team division.

The Li and Boa story has taken a fascinating direction. There is just one big question: will it go anywhere important? Neither Li or Boa are featured performers, but the mysterious woman that threatens them could be.

WarGames Advantage Ladder: Pete Dunne vs. Kyle O'Reilly

8 OF 8

Pete Dunne and Kyle O'Reilly did not care that they had a WarGames match in less than two weeks. They were willing to take any punishment to dish out punishment in this physical ladder match.

The Bruiserweight went after the left hand of O'Reilly while the Undisputed Era member used a series of dragon screws to isolate the left leg of Dunne. The two broke a ladder as Dunne suplexed O'Reilly through it.

The Undisputed Era's representative proved he was deserving of the opportunity as he blocked the Bitter End and locked in a guillotine. However, The Bruiserweight turned it around and sent the knee of O'Reilly into a ladder.

Both men were limping and wounded with a ladder set up in the center of the ring. They swung at each other with fists under the ladder. Dunne broke the fingers of O'Reilly, but the UE member rebounded into a clothesline after knocking down the ladder.

The Bruiserweight grabbed a steel chair to injure O'Reilly then hit the Bitter End on the guardrail. Somehow, O'Reilly recovered to take out Dunne, but a hooded man knocked him down off the ladder to the outside. Dunne pulled down the briefcase and stood tall

    Result

Dunne def. O'Reilly by pulling down the briefcase to earn the advantage at WarGames.

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

Unsurprisingly, this was good enough to be a TakeOver match. These two future NXT Championship contenders went all out in a ladder match that sold their brutality. O'Reilly especially elevated his game as he did before his injury, selling his physical style.

The two men did each other no favors with two weeks before WarGames. They will need to recover quickly for a contest that is known be difficult to manage. This was ultimately a preview of what we can expect, and that is a great match to come.

The silly finish aside, O'Reilly vs. Dunne is a match that needs to happen again. This was everything it promised to be and more.

Will Hobbs pledged his allegiance to Team Taz in the closing moments of last week's show with his attack on Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes and Wednesday night on TNT, the big man saw his first in-ring action since his career-altering decision.

How did the blue chip prospect fare and what further dominance would The Human Suplex Machine's collection of talent establish on the eve of Thanksgiving?

The answer to that question and more lies within this recap of the November 25 episode of All Elite Wrestling Dynamite.

Match Card

1 OF 7

    Announced for tonight's show are:

    • Hangman Page vs. John Silver
    • Will Hobbs in action
    • SCU vs. Jericho and Jake Hager
    • Pac and Rey Fenix vs. Butcher and Blade
    • AEW Women's Championship Match: Hikaru Shida vs. Anna Jay
    • Top Flight vs. The Hybrid 2

    Coverage begins at 8:00 PM.

Hangman Page vs. John Silver

2 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

"Dark Order is going to get a win tonight. Know why? Cuz Johnny Hungeee!"

Or so John Silver put it in a prerecorded promo ahead of his showdown with Hangman Page in the night's opening contest.

Silver showed off his arms early, then mocked Page's, only to eat a discus forearm to the face. Silver recovered and continued to take things lightly as Tony Schiavone pointed out on commentary that Page came to the ring without a beverage, perhaps hinting at a more focused Hangman than ever before.

Silver finally focused on the task at hand and wore Page down, packing his punches with power and delivering a German suplex for two. Page answered with a springboard clothesline that dropped his opponent off the apron.

Page fired up, building momentum on the strength of a Samoan Drop and standing shooting star press. Silver countered a Buckshot Lariat with a hurricanrana and rollup for two. A big kick and brainbuster followed for another near-fall.

Page countered a lariat attempt but ate a series of kicks to the body. He shook them off and delivered a lariat of his own, followed by a Liger Bomb for two. He added the Buckshot Lariat to finally put Silver away.

    Result

    Page defeated Silver

    Grade

    B+

    Analysis

Every time John Silver wrestles on an episode of Dynamite, he leaps off the screen, stealing the attention of the audience and enhancing his star. He has been a breakout star of the Being The Elite YouTube show and with every passing performance on TNT, he threatens to be the next breakout star in AEW.

Page was his typically great self, turning in another steady and consistent performance you hope to see out of a guy pegged by many as the future of the company. He could easily win the world title now and fit right in at the top of the card and that is a testament to both his own growth and the depth of the AEW roster.

The Dark Order trying to recruit Page after the match was an interesting development and should keep the anxious millennial cowboy busy for the foreseeable future, especially if it results in a feud with the faction.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Lee Johnson

3 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Just seven days after turning on Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin, the newly dubbed “Powerhouse Hobbs” battled Lee Johnson in singles action.

The smaller, faster Johnson tried to stick and run early but Hobbs got his hands on him and preceded to demolish the overmatched competitor.

He put him away with a massive powerslam for the uncontested victory.

Taz joined Hobbs in the ring with the FTW Championship. He took exception to AEW not recognizing the title for what it is. He claimed he would not leave the ring until someone from management came to the ring and acknowledged the title as meaningful.

His mic cut twice, Taz threatened to head to the commentary team. Rhodes appeared and said Taz was done. Claiming to come to the ring out of respect, Rhodes said they needed to end this because next week at Winter Is Coming, they will leave it all in the center of the ring.

As the segment turned heated, Rhodes asked Taz why his son was training with him instead of his own father. The Human Suplex Machine applied the Tazmission to the Executive Vice President of the company before leaving, his son Hook carrying the FTW title out of the arena.

    Result

    Hobbs defeated Johnson

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

There are certainly arguments to be made about fake shoots in wrestling, an overabundance of friends and family running rampant in AEW and the spotlight put on Taz rather than Powerhouse Hobbs in this segment but it is impossible to deny the heat and intensity between Rhodes and the former ECW Champion here.

It was compelling television that introduced Hook, Taz's son, to the fray.

What role he plays moving forward and whether he will have an impact on next week's tag team match pitting Rhodes and Allin against Hobbs and Ricky Starks remains to be seen.

Top Flight vs. The Hybrid 2

4 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Moments after their breakout match with The Young Bucks, Top Flight's Darius and Dante Martin suffered a sneak attack at the hands of The Hybrid 2's Angelico and Jack Evans. This week, they did battle, the young babyface team now official members of the AEW roster.

During the picture-in-picture commercial break, Evans and Angelico downed and isolated Dante until a hot tag sparked the comeback.

Darius rolled over both opponents, rocking Evans with a corner uppercut. A blind tag between the brothers Martin allowed for a double-team sitout powerbomb. Angelico broke up the pin.

A pair of dives wiped out the heels at ringside and a slingshot suplex from Darius, followed by a big frog slash from Dante, earned the team a two-count on Evans. The more experienced TH2 answered with some double-team offense, leading to a two-count.

The action broke down, Evans demolished Darius at ringside and Angelico forced a tapout from Dante for the impressive, hard-fought victory. When Angelico refused to break up the hold, The Young Bucks hit the ring to make the save, chasing TH2 off.

    Result

The Hybrid 2 defeated Top Flight

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

The effort was there, and AEW certainly spotlighted Top Flight, but this one went a bit longer than it had to. As a result, the action broke down late and there were more than a few disjointed spots down the stretch.

The appearance by The Young Bucks after the match and their chasing off of Evans and Angelico would seem to suggest Matt and Nick will go to war with TH2 sometime in the very near future. As a one-off television match to buy time between now and the pay-per-view, it is hardly a bad idea.

Nor is using the current AEW Tag Team Champions as mentors to the Martins, who have the raw ability to be the next great tag team in an already stacked tag division.

SCU vs. Chris Jericho and Jake Hager

The new, improved Inner Circle accompanied Chris Jericho and Jake Hager to the ring for a high-profile tag team match against SCU's Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian. The contest marked the first time in their Hall of Fame-worthy careers that Jericho and Daniels squared off with each other in any form.

Daniels and Kazarian out-quicked Jericho, downing him and adding a double stomp from the latter. A tag to Hager turned the tide in the heels' favor as the big man overpowered and punished Kazarian in the corner.

A trip-up by Santana at ringside allowed Hager to continue his dominance, this time over Daniels. The Inner Circle beat The Fallen Angel down heading into the break.

The heels worked over Daniels throughout the commercial timeout but he ultimately made the hot tag to Kazarian. The former tag team champion exploded into the bout, wiping out both of his opponents and diving over the ropes and onto the Inner Circle.

Daniels tagged back in and wiped Hager out with a tope suicida, then scored a near-fall off a crossbody on Jericho. Daniels continued his roll, delivering a Best Moonsault Over to Hager.

Ultimately, it was MJF's interference by way of a shot to the face with the Dynamite Diamond Ring to Daniels that led to Jericho's Judas Effect and Hager's pinfall victory.

    Analysis

This was about putting over the Inner Circle in its latest incarnation, with MJF and Wardlow, and the effect it will have on Chris Jericho's success moving forward. In that regard, it worked.

MJF figured prominently in the outcome, his interference leading directly to Jericho's victory. Such a creative development plants the seeds for MJF to ultimately usurp Jericho's leadership role, staking claim to the top spot in the Inner Circle by way of his constant assistance of The Demo God.

Daniels, in his first major match on Dynamite in months, reminded fans why he is one of the most respected in-ring performers of his generation while Kazarian again proved he may very well be one of the most underrated.

Justin Roberts delivered another over-the-top introduction of Kenny Omega but before the top conteder to the AEW World Championship could make his grandiose entrance, Jon Moxley attacked, kicking his ass to the ring before delivering a Paradigm Shift on the world title.

“I don’t know who you hired to take me out last week but they did a piss-poor job,” Moxley said. “I thought we settled our difference a year ago, but then you had to go ahead and piss me off.”

Moxley went into hype mode with an intense promo. “Win, lose or draw, Winter Is Coming for you, Kenny.” He continued, “steady your aim and take you shot because you only get one.”

Moxley signed the contract before exiting as only he can.

    Analysis

Jon Moxley has quietly developed into one of the best promos in wrestling, culminating in this segment, one of the very best to date in AEW. He was tonally on-point, resisted the witty one-liners he tends to break out from time to time and really hammered home the overall significance of what will unfold on next week’s broadcast.

It was intense, hyped next week’s world title match and told the audience everything it needs to know about the rivalry between champion and challenger.

Everything about this was phenomenal and next week’s title match should be one of the best matches of 2020.

AEW Women's Championship Match: Hikaru Shida vs. Anna Jay

Anna Jay’s first appearance on AEW Dynamite came on April 1 in a loss to Hikaru Shida. Wednesday night, she had the opportunity to right that wrong and capture her first women’s title in the process as she squared off with her familiar foe, all while her Dark Order cohorts watched from the stage.

After seizing control of the bout on the floor, Jay spent the commercial break working the lower limbs of Shida. The challenger dominated during the break, grounding Shida and working a headlock in the process.

Back from the break, Jay dropped Shida and ordered Tay Conti to retrieve a steel chair. With the referee distracted, Jay caught Shida in the leg with a kendo stick, then applied the Queen Slayer.

Shida fought out but nearly fell prey to a quick rollup moments later. The champion escaped and delivered a straightjacket suplex for a near-fall and followed with the Tamashii for the hard-fought victory.

After the match, as Shida made her way up the ramp, Abadon appeared. Shida crawled away in fear and watched as the undead competitor marked the title, insinuating she will be targeting it next.

    Analysis

Again, the majority of a women’s match took place during the commercial break.

While others will point to the Jericho match from earlier as a match that went through the timeout, it still featured a good bit of action following the commercial. This one went from zero to 60 rapidly, rushed to a finish and cutting out everything in between.

The dissension between Jay and Conti will ultimately lead to a feud between the two, which will be a nice secondary program in a women’s division that doesn’t have much in the way of those.

The introduction of Abadon to the title picture is welcome but again, one has to wonder what the logic behind such a decision is when she has not been featured prominently in any way, shape or form and is now expected to be taken seriously as the next contender to Shida’s crown.

The women’s division needs considerable help, that much we know, but there were at least flashes of growth and evolution within here.

Which is not something that can be said every week.
