WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Highlights and Analysis from November 13

Just nine days until the Survivor Series pay-per-view, SmackDown hit the Fox airwaves seeking to write the latest chapter in the build to the battle for brand supremacy while simultaneously furthering its own exclusive rivalries.

What did Universal champion Roman Reigns have in store for cousin Jey Uso as he continued to pull him down to his level? What retribution awaits Carmella after her sneak attack on Sasha Banks last week? Who will be the fifth and final participant on Team SmackDown come November 22?

Find out the answers to those questions with this recap of Friday's broadcast.

Match Card

1 OF 8

    Announced for Friday's show:

    • Roman Reigns continues his rule over the SmackDown roster

    Whatever that means.

    Coverage begins at 8:00 PM.

Drew McIntyre Interrupts Roman Reigns

2 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

The Tribal Chief, The Head of the Table and Universal Champion Roman Reigns kicked off this week’s show, just nine days before a showdown with WWE Champion Randy Orton at the Survivor Series pay-per-view.

“The numbers, the analytics...they don’t lie,” Reigns said after referring to the blue brand as “The Island of Relevancy” and chalking it up to himself. He said Jey Uso will lead his team to victory, then he will further establish his reign of dominance over Orton.

This brought out Drew McIntyre, who will challenge The Viper for the WWE Championship on Raw. Big Daddy Claymore claimed he will defeat Orton and it will be the two of them squaring off at Survivor Series for the first time since McIntyre eliminated Reigns to win the Royal Rumble.

McIntyre reminded Heyman that he made Brock Leshnar his bitch at WrestleMania and said he stepped up at WrestleMania when The Big Dog left them high and dry.

McIntyre called himself “the man,” to which Reigns responded, saying he’s back now and no one knows who he is.

A tense exchange of words gave way to Uso making the save, cutting a promo while Reigns looked on. He challenged McIntyre to a match and The Scottish Psychopath answered with an insulting shove. Reigns and his cousin left the ring, leaving McIntyre to watch on as they made their exit.

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

Take away the complete disregard for the brand split and you had a hell of a segment to kick off this week’s show.

McIntyre bringing up Reigns’ absence from WrestleMania and insinuating that he stepped up to become the top dog in WWE during his extended leave was a nice touch, as was The Tribal Chief’s arrogant rebuttal in which he claimed no one knew McIntyre now that he is back.

Jey thinking he is doing the right thing by stepping up and confronting McIntyre, only for Reigns to look on with an almost dismayed expression on his face, fit the ongoing story of the former tag champ looking for approval from the head of the table.

Reigns exploding after the break, taking exception to Uso and berating him only supported what we saw moments early and further put Uso in the proverbial doghouse.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Apollo Crews vs. Sami Zayn

3 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

Denouncing the idea that he just found out about his Intercontinental Championship defense an hour before the start of the show, Sami Zayn cut a scathing promo on WWE officials for booking him against Apollo Crews.

Crews attacked early and often, overpowering and punishing the loudmouth heel.

As the action spilled to the floor, Zayn pulled the apron from the ring and proceeded to tie his opponent’s foot to the ring. The referee counted to 10 and awarded the victory to Zayn as Michael Cole protested the “win.”

    Result

    Zayn defeated Crews to retain

    Grade

    B+

    Analysis

This was an excellent way to put over the resourcefulness of the champion.

Wholly overpowered and outmatched, he used his brain to pick up a win, no matter how tainted or underhanded it might have been. He will need to think like that at Survivor Series when he meets an even bigger, more powerful competitor in Bobby Lashley.

For Crews, the loss protects him as he doesn’t endure a loss by pin-fall or submission and has a legit out.

Carmella Attacks Sasha Banks

4 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

A week after enduring a cheap superkick from the returning Carmella, SmackDown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks made her way to the squared circle to address her seemingly newfound rival.

Just as she began to speak her mind, Bayley’s music played and her familiar foe provided a distraction. Carmella attacked from out of nowhere, delivering a second superkick and planting her with an X-Factor in the center of the ring.

The segment ended with the self-proclaimed “Untouchable” competitor exiting, obviously proud of her actions.

    Grade

    C

    Analysis

This was such a blip on the show that it almost begs the question, “why was it even here?”

Banks, fresh off an appearance in this week’s episode of The Mandalorian, said nothing of note while Carmella benefited from Bayley’s appearance, despite showing no signs of an alliance of any kind.

If there is a positive, it is that the audience is left with questions to chew on for awhile and that WWE is learning to be more patient with its storyline developments rather than giving it all away at once.

Otis vs. Dolph Ziggler...Again

5 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

After a backstage encounter, Otis battled Dolph Ziggler in the renewal of their rivalry from this past spring.

Ziggler nearly benefited from interference by Robert Roode, delivering a Zig-Zag but failing to keep the former Mr. Money in the Bank down.

Otis fought his way back into the match, delivered the caterpillar elbow drop and set up for the Vader Bomb. Roode again attempted to interfere but this time backed down as Otis stared him down. The big man executed his new finisher and put The Showoff away for the win.

    Result

    Otis defeated Ziggler

    Grade

    C-

    Analysis

This did nothing for anyone involved.

Otis has beaten Ziggler so often in 2020 that a win here is of little meaning. For Ziggler, losing further diminishes whatever credibility he has left at this point while Roode looks like a total weakling for backing down without any sort of physical encounter.

The only saving grace? The backstage promo afterward in which Chad Gable approached Otis and pitched him on the idea of discipline under his guidance.

The Final Chapter: Rey Mysterio vs. Seth Rollins

6 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

The long, long rivalry between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins finally came to a head Friday night in a match dubbed by the mass marketing team of WWE and its voice, Michael Cole, as The Final Chapter. Angie, Dominik and Aalyah Mysterio all accompanied Mysterio to the squared circle for the no holds barred contest.

Mysterio struck first with an ugly tornado DDT on the ring apron that left The Messiah reeling while Murphy watched from the floor. Mysterio delivered a sunset flip powerbomb into the guardrail but Rollins recovered and drove his opponent spine-first onto the announce table.

Corey Graves put over the effect Rollins’ targeted attack to the back of Mysterio would have while Cole reminded the viewers at home of Mysterio’s many instances of incredible resiliency.

Mysterio mounted a momentary comeback but Rollins cut it off and sent him crashing face and sternum-first onto the floor. Rollins blasted the future Hall of Famer with the steel steps before shooting an intimidating glare at the Mysterio family.

Just in time for the break, Rollins crashed back-first into the steel steps he had setup at ringside.

A recovered Rollins introduced a table to the fray and, despite tenacious fight from Mysterio, powerbombed him through it. Mysterio kicked out.

A frustrated Rollins removed a rubber stopper off the chair and attempted to go after Rey’s eye. Dominik pulled him from the ring but ate a superkick for his troubles. Murphy watched as Mysterio delivered a dropkick, driving the chair back in Rollins’ face.

The Disciple handed him a chair, then betrayed Rollins with a leaping knee to the face. Mysterio capitalized, delivered a 619 after a botched first attempt and followed with an apropos frog splash on the 15th anniversary of the death of Eddie Guerrero for the win.

The Mysterio family embraced in the center of the ring while Murphy contemplated his actions. Rey prevented Aalyah from joining Murphy, then confronted him. He gave his approval, as did Dominik and Angie, and the group left together in a fitting ending for the bloated, overlong storyline.

    Result

    Mysterio defeated Rollins

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

For as overly long, unnecessarily messy and horrifically soapy as this storyline became, this was the perfect ending to it all.

Mysterio and his family had their happy ending, while Murphy was accepted by all involved and given blessings to continue dating Aalyah. Rollins got his comeuppance and all was right with the world.

This was probably the worst of the big matches in the program, but the commercial break hurt the flow and an amped-up Rey flubbing the first 619 attempt didn’t help matters.

Still, the grade reflects the overall execution of the story in this, The Final Chapter, and is apropos for what WWE presented.

Fatal 4-Way: Liv Morgan vs. Tamina vs. Natalya vs. Chelsea Green

7 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

What was originally slated to be a Triple Threat Match to determine the latest member of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series became a Fatal 4-Way Match with the debut of Chelsea Green and her joining Natalya, Liv Morgan and Tamina Snuka.

The action was fast and furious, none of the four competitors gaining any sort of sustained advantage.

Natalya looked to sap the energy out of Morgan, grounding her and applying a rear chin lock in search of a submission. Morgan fought back and eyed victory, delivering consecutive facebusters, including one to Tamina that earned her the win.

    Result

Morgan defeated Natalya, Tamina and Green

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

Kudos to Morgan for scoring a big win to cash her ticket to Survivor Series. She has been fantastic in 2020 and deserves the opportunity to showcase herself on pay-per-view.

Green’s debut and insertion in this match was quite the curiosity.

Why put her in that spot after months of leaving her in limbo, only to have her barely involved in the match and definitely not in the finish? It was a total waste of a fresh new face and further evidence tht Vinnie Mac and Co. have no idea what to do with the talented Canadian.

A talented wrestler with character in spades, she should be a focal point of the division rather than the afterthought she was here.

Be better than that, WWE, or stop wondering why Superstars fail to make the successful jump from NXT to the main roster.

Drew McIntyre vs. Jey Uso

8 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

Labeled an “Unsanctioned Match” due to the interpromotional nature of the contest, Drew McIntyre vs. Jey Uso served as the main event of Friday’s broadcast, the result of an overzealous Uso jumping the gun and putting his foot in his mouth earlier in the broadcast.

An aggressive McIntyre punished Uso from the opening bell, sending a message to Roman Reigns in the process while Corey Graves questioned the intelligence of expending energy and emotion just days before his WWE Championship Match against Randy Orton on Raw.

Uso seized control during the break, pounding away at the face of the former WWE Champion as the show returned from the commercial timeout. He cut McIntyre’s attempt at a comeback off with a Samoan Drop, then stomped away in the corner.

McIntyre answered with a Glasgow Kiss headbutt, then a Sky High for a two-count. Uso rocked him with a superkick and scaled the ropes, only for McIntyre to meet him up top. Uso hung him in the Tree of Woe but McIntyre sat up and delivered an overhead superplex.

He looked for the Claymore Kick but Uso bailed to the floor. McIntyre followed, attacking him until Reigns’ music played. The Tribal Chief walked with purpose as he headed to the ringside area. Uso capitalized on the distraction, sending The Scottish Psychopath into the steel steps.

“I don’t care if you beat him. Make him understand,” Reigns demanded.

A confused Uso slid back into the ring and unloaded with a flurry of punches to the face. McIntyre recovered and delivered the Claymore for the win as the Universal Champion stared him down, seemingly unfazed by McIntyre’s win or the potential showdown with him.

“Get you one of these, then we’ll talk on Sunday,” Reigns said, leaving McIntyre behind as he headed up the ramp.

    Result

    McIntyre defeated Uso

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

What happens when someone strays from orders and goes into business for themselves?

    This. This happens.

McIntyre overcame Uso to pick up the win, almost certainly guaranteeing an unpleasant week for Uso as he continues to serve The Tribal Chief.

The post-match exchange between Reigns and McIntyre was great and the Universal Champion continues to be the best thing about WWE television right now.

Arrogant, confident, imposing and intimidating, he is the epitome of a great heel and the character around whom SmackDown should absolutely revolve now and well into the future

WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from November 11

Sana Ejaz Khan

    Credit: WWE.com

This week's episode of NXT wasn't designated as a special event but WWE still packed the card with a few title matches to make the show exciting.

Johnny Gargano defended the North American Championship for the first time since winning it at TakeOver. Was he able to break his curse of losing every title in his first defense?

Breeze and Fandango attempted to regain the NXT tag titles in a rematch against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan, but the champions now have Pete Dunne and Pat McAfee as allies, so Breezango had an uphill battle.

We also saw Santos Escobar put the Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Jake Atlas and Toni Storm battled Candice LeRae.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's episode of NXT.

Johnny Gargano vs. Leon Ruff (North American Championship)

1 OF 6

After playing the annual Veteran's Day video package, Gargano opened the show in the ring with a wheel full of names that could challenge him for the North American title. He spins it and it lands on Leon Ruff, which was obviously what he wanted to happen.

Ruff came out smiling and Gargano shook his hand before the bell. He then kicked Ruff in the face and stomped a mudhole in him. The cruiserweight got in a few shots before Gargano threw him into the steel steps.

Damian Priest showed up in the crowd and the distraction almost led to Ruff pinning him with a roll-up. Johnny Wrestling launched him into the middle turnbuckle but Ruff managed to take him down with a crucifix to get a shocking upset victory. Priest laughed as the ref presented him with the title.

    Grade: C+

    Analysis

This began as a classic slimy heel move. The bad guy puts himself in the ring with an opponent he knows he can beat and then proceeds to decimate him.

However, WWE pulled the rug out from under us and put the title on Ruff, who nobody would have predicted would win before the show began.

Genuinely shocking moments in WWE are few and far between. The match was short but the shocking finish wouldn't have worked if it lasted a long time. This was a decent way to open the show.

Santos Escobar vs. Jake Atlas (Cruiserweight Championship)

2 OF 6

Before the show, Atlas attacked Joaquin Wilde in the parking lot. Escobar granted him a title match in an effort to get him in the ring for some revenge.

He hit a knee to the body right away but Atlas quickly recovered and sent him out of the ring with a kick to the head. The champion returned the favor with his own kick before he brought him down to the mat.

He punished the challenger with a submission before he dropped him on his face. Atlas was forced to fend off an attack from Raul Mendoza and Wilde at ringside but he was still able to hit a springboard blockbuster for a near-fall.

We returned from a break to see Escobar in firm control. He hit a nice hurricanrana on the top turnbuckle followed by a frog splash for a two-count. Atlas almost missed a suicide dive when his foot hooked the rope.

Atlas attempted his signature cartwheel DDT but Escobar caught him and hit his finisher for the pin and the win.

    Grade: B+

    Analysis

This feud has been building for a little while and they did not disappoint when they finally got into the ring with each other.

Atlas and Escobar have styles that mesh well together. They can both take it to the mat or fly through the air, so this match had a little bit of everything.

It won't go down in history as a five-star classic but it will likely stand out as one of the better WWE bouts from this week. Atlas is great as the underdog babyface and Escobar has been a solid heel champion. One or two minor botches didn't do much to take away from this one.

Raquel Gonzalez vs. Xia Li Is Called off

3 OF 6

Last week, Xia Li requested a match against Raquel Gonzalez. This week, Boa came out and tried to cancel the fight on Li's behalf for some unknown reason. Gonzalez did not take this well and proceeded to beat the life out of Boa.

She left the arena and some strange graphics came on the LED screens. An older gentleman approached Boa and handed him a letter while making a black mark on his hand. This was all very ominous and mysterious.

There wasn't much to grade here but the segment was worth noting. Gonzalez looked good as a monster and this new mystery with Boa and Li could be intriguing if done right.

Candice LeRae vs. Toni Storm

4 OF 6

After we saw a replay of LeRae running over Shotzi Blackheart's tank in her car, The Poison Pixie made her way out to battle Storm.

They kept things technical during the first few minutes. Both women used several takedowns, holds and counters before either of them attempted a strike.

Storm missed a hip strike against the steel steps and went down as we went to a commercial. We returned with LeRae hitting a backstabber. Storm avoided a moonsault and leveled her with a headbutt that sent both women to the mat.

LeRae was able to steal the win by using the ropes for leverage during the pin. Storm went after her but the masked woman who interfered at Halloween Havoc made the save. Blackheart ran down to even the odds but ended up being taken out, too. Indi Hartwell revealed herself to be the attacker.

    Grade: B

    Analysis

Hartwell being the attacker was not surprising at all, but at least WWE didn't try to drag out this storyline for longer than necessary.

The match between LeRae and Storm was physical and entertaining. They worked well together and this will likely lead to more matches in the near future.

The NXT women's division has so much talent right now and it's great to see storylines that are separate from the championship scene.

Dexter Lumis vs. Timothy Thatcher

5 OF 6

Timothy Thatcher and Dexter Lumis met for a match after a backstage incident earlier in the show. Lumis immediately hit a Thesz press and sent Thatcher out of the ring to recover.

Thatcher eventually took him down and stretched him in a bow and arrow submission. Lumis broke free and hit a few hard crossface strikes. He planted Thatch with a spinebuster and followed up with a standing dropkick.

After a break, Thatcher hit a double underhook suplex for a trio of near-falls. Lumis hit a nice side suplex to give himself a little time to recover. He started unloading with punches before he climbed to the top rope. Thatch tried to cut him off with a superplex but the artist pushed him down and hit a senton bomb.

Cameron Grimes showed up and the distraction led to Thatcher getting the pin. Grimes proceeded to attack Lumis after the match.

    Grade: B

    Analysis

Thatcher and Lumis are both hard-hitting fighters who have the potential to have one of the great feuds in NXT if they are allowed to continue this rivalry at some point.

Their strikes were stiff, their holds were locked in deep and their technical prowess was on full display. It's almost too bad this was just a setup for Grimes to keep his feud with Lumis going.

Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan vs. Breezango (NXT Tag Titles)

6 OF 6

McAfee and Dunne accompanied the champions to the ring and delivered a promo declaring his group as the best four-man stable in wrestling history.

Tyler Breeze and Fandango skipped the flashy entrance this week and went right to the ring. Burch and Fandango fought on one side of the ring while Burch and Breeze brawled on the other side.

Once things got under control, both teams had bursts of offense that prevented either duo from dominating for too long.

Drake Maverick ran down to get revenge for Killian Dain but Dunne took him out first. McAfee helped his team cheat and retain the tag titles to end the show.

    Grade: B-

    Analysis

From the moment the bell rang, this was a competitive match that showed a new side of Breezango while showcasing the stiff style the champs are known for.

McAfee has become such a strong heel for NXT. He has the cocky swagger that only comes from being a successful pro athlete and he is using it to help Burch, Lorcan and Dunne stand out.

Fandango and Breeze are two of the most reliable performers on the black and gold brand and this match was another example of how good they can be against anyone they face.

WWE Raw Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from November 9

Sana Ejaz Khan

      Credit: WWE.com

With almost the entire Survivor Series card already set in stone, this week's Raw had plenty of time to work on developing those stories as well as addressing other feuds.

Jeff Hardy, Riddle and Elias were given a second chance to qualify for the Raw men's Survivor Series team. The winner will join Braun Strowman, AJ Styles, Sheamus and Keith Lee.

We also saw a non-title singles bout between Asuka and Nia Jax, while Ricochet battled Mustafa Ali after Retribution attacked him last week.

Not only did The New Day appear on "Miz TV," but Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston also teamed up with Drew McIntyre to take on Randy Orton, The Miz and John Morrison.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's Raw.

    'Miz TV' with New Day

    1 OF 9

After a lengthy recap video of last week's show, The Miz and Morrison made their way to the ring for an interview with The New Day.

The Miz plugged his new show, and The Viper came down to the ring in a rage. He said The A-Lister is a coward who can only win the WWE title with the Money in the Bank briefcase. He gave Miz an opportunity to attack him from behind, but he didn't fall for it.

Woods and Kingston came out and taunted all of them from the stage. Orton ended up hitting Kingston with the RKO while Miz and Morrison took out Woods. McIntyre tried to come help, but all three men ganged up on him. The segment ended with Orton, The Miz and Morrison leaving together, but The Viper still looked upset.

      Grade: C+

      Analysis

Continuity is important, and WWE often forgets its own history. Seeing Orton have issues with The Miz despite both men being heels due to The A-Lister trying to cash in last week was good.

That being said, everything else about this opening segment was predictable. In fact, WWE should have booked the six-man match after this fight instead of announcing it before the show.

Neither of the feuds featured here will be included at Survivor Series, so we likely have many more weeks of Orton and McIntyre fighting ahead of us. Whether that is a good thing is up to you.

Elias vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Riddle

    2 OF 9

The final member of the Raw men's team would be determined in a Triple Threat match with Riddle, Elias and Hardy fighting for the open slot. Elias was in the ring to give a promo and play a song before the bout began.

The first exchange saw all three men attempt to win with quick roll-ups, which never makes any sense in a match like this when there is always someone to break it up since nobody is hurt yet.

Riddle pulled Hardy out of the ring, and they traded strikes until Elias took out both of them with a dropkick through the ropes. We returned from a break to see Elias still dominating the action as Styles looked on from backstage.

The Charismatic Enigma began to go on a rampage, but Elias took him down with Drift Away. Riddle broke up the pin in the nick of time. After knocking Hardy out of the ring, Riddle hit Bro Derek on Elias for the win.

      Grade: B-

      Analysis

Elias acting like he was going to play a song just to see if he was going to be interrupted was pretty funny, especially since once he was actually going to start, Hardy's music immediately cut him off.

The action was fun but nothing to write home about. We saw all the usual Triple Threat spots sprinkled in throughout the match. All three men looked like potential winners at different times.

Riddle winning is not surprising, especially since Hardy and Elias will likely continue to feud for the next month or two before having one final blowoff match.

    Lana vs. Shayna Baszler

    3 OF 9

Lana took on Shayna Baszler this week after the other women's tag champ, Nia Jax, put her through a table several times over the last couple of months.

As soon as the ref called for the bell, Lana tried to jump on Baszler's back. The MMA fighter threw her down to the mat and delivered a stiff kick to the body.

She stomped on Lana's arm but missed a running knee in the corner. She dropped The Ravishing Russian with a gut-wrench and a knee strike for a near-fall. She scored the win with the Kirifuda Clutch.

Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke saved Lana from being put through a table again.

      Grade: D

      Analysis

If the plan was to develop sympathy for Lana after these repeated attacks, WWE has dropped the ball in a big way. For that to work, she has to give us a reason to like her again.

The match was short and didn't look good. Baszler was fine, but Lana looked even more inexperienced than usual, which is odd since she has shown more talent in the past than she did here.

WWE is setting up for something at Survivor Series. Maybe Lana will turn on her team and help SmackDown win, or maybe she will be the lone survivor. Either way, WWE needs to do something to give us a reason to care.

Riddle and Keith Lee vs. Sheamus and Braun Strowman

    4 OF 9

Styles called a team meeting in the ring that led to him telling everyone he got Adam Pearce to book this tag match with Styles as the special guest referee.

Lee and Sheamus started for their teams. The Limitless One took control and brought in Riddle for some body blows. Once Strowman came in, he started demolishing Riddle with his superior power.

Sheamus got in Styles' face at one point, and it allowed Riddle to take him down with a gut-wrench suplex. Riddle accidentally hit Styles with a knee strike after Sheamus avoided the contact. The same thing happened a moment later with a kick.

Lee and Strowman ended up colliding with Styles between them, and he went down. Styles had to stop his bodyguard from getting involved as the show went to a break. We returned to see Styles trying to keep things under control as the match progressed.

The match came to an end when Sheamus hit Strowman with a Brogue Kick and Riddle took advantage of the situation with a roll-up.

      Grade: C-

      Analysis

This was almost the same segment we saw last week with Riddle added to the mix. The Raw team doesn't get along, and WWE wants to make sure we all know it.

Styles is an entertaining heel who kept this from being a total waste of time, but the match that followed felt unnecessary to the ongoing story. The physicality was good, though.

The debate over who gets to be team captain is never as interesting as management thinks it is, so all of this manufactured drama means nothing. It would be enough just knowing these guys don't like each other. We don't need a meaningless position as captain for them to want to fight each other.

Bobby Lashley vs. Titus O'Neil (U.S. Championship)

    5 OF 9

MVP and Bobby Lashley were out after the break. They said The Hurt Business would win the tag titles next week and Lashley would win at Survivor Series. Titus O'Neil came out to yell at them for attacking him a couple of weeks ago. He said The All Mighty never defends his title, so Lashley agreed to put it on the line.

A ref came down and made the match official. MVP tried to distract O'Neil, but he avoided Lashley and started unloading on him with rights and lefts.

The All Mighty hit one Spear before applying the Hurt Lock for the submission win.

      Grade: D+

      Analysis

Making Lashley look good before Survivor Series was a good idea, but WWE picked a guy who hasn't had a significant win in years, so the victory was all but meaningless.

O'Neil is someone who has been misused ever since WWE broke up his team with Darren Young. He is great at public outreach, but management clearly doesn't see him as a star.

This was another segment that felt more like filler than anything else.

    Asuka vs. Nia Jax

    6 OF 9

They started off with a physical exchange that saw Asuka attempt a few different submissions. The more powerful Jax was able to break free each time.

We returned from a break to see Jax in control while Baszler cheered her on from ringside. Rose, Brooke and Lana were all pulling for Asuka.

The Empress nailed her with a spinning backfist and a hip attack for a two-count. Lana and Baszler ended up on the apron, and Asuka knocked them both down. Baszler attacked her to cause a disqualification. This led to a huge brawl between everyone.

The women's tag champs cleared the ring of everyone but Lana, which allowed them to put her through another announce table.

      Grade: C+

      Analysis

Asuka and Jax had a nice physical bout going before the disqualification. They had a couple of sloppy moments, but that tends to happen when two wrestlers are trying to be aggressive.

Putting Lana through another table and then telling her to quit is an important point for this storyline. If WWE is going to build sympathy for her, it needs to start happening now.

Having her align with Rose and Brooke might be a good way to turn her babyface, but it will take a little while before the crowd wants to cheer for her again. This was better than what we saw from Lana and Baszler earlier, but not by a lot.

    7-Man 24/7 Championship Match

    7 OF 9

Erik, Tucker, Drew Gulak, Lince Dorado, Gran Metalik, Akira Tozawa and R-Truth all competed in a very quick match for the 24/7 title.

The belt changed hands several times. Every single competitor won it at least once before Truth regained it at the end and ran away.

      Grade: F

      Analysis

Comedy has its place in wrestling. This business is ridiculous by its very nature, so comedy goes hand in hand. However, it has to be done well to be meaningful.

This segment was the epitome of everything that is wrong with how the 24/7 title has been used lately. It went from producing some of the most humorous segments every week to something that just fills time.

R-Truth deserves every bit of screen time he gets, but it's time to either retire this belt or change how it is booked. It is painful to give anything with Truth an F, but this whole segment was abysmal.

    Mustafa Ali vs. Ricochet

    8 OF 9

Ali told Ricochet he could save him before the bell, but Ricochet didn't want to hear it. He started laying in stiff strikes while talking trash to his former friend.

Ali pulled him into the turnbuckle to take control. He kept the high-flyer grounded for a little while, but Ricochet eventually found a way to turn the tables.

They ended up on the apron where Ricochet would take him down with a headscissors takedown. Retribution surrounded him, and Ali was able to hit a neckbreaker as he tried to get back into the ring.

We returned from a commercial to see Ali hit another neckbreaker for a two-count. Ricochet began to make a comeback and hit a big clothesline. He showed some impressive power blocking a tornado DDT and hitting a suplex followed by a brainbuster for a close two-count.

Ali hit a backstabber from the top rope but failed to get the pin. He berated Ricochet until he punched Ali in the face and hit a reverse hurricanrana. He took out the rest of Retribution with a springboard corkscrew, but he missed the phoenix splash. Ali locked him in a submission and choked him out for the win.

      Grade: B+

      Analysis

This isn't saying a lot, but this was easily the best match and segment of the night. Ali and Ricochet are among the best bell-to-bell performers WWE has today, and they did their best to make sure this show had something to redeem it a little.

This is a step in the right direction for Retribution. The group needs to start racking up wins, and this was a good start.

Ricochet looked as good as he ever has out there. His athleticism is unmatched, and his agility is superhuman. WWE needs to make better use of him soon.

The New Day and Drew McIntyre vs. Randy Orton, Miz and Morrison

    9 OF 9

Morrison started off against McIntyre. The former WWE champion delivered one punch to take him down and then threw him to his corner so he could bring in Woods.

Woods and Kofi chanted about missing Big E before taking out The Miz and Morrison with dives. McIntyre dared Orton to get into the ring, but The Viper just leaned against the announce table as we went to a break.

We returned to see Woods taking it to The A-Lister. JoMo came in and took over for his partner. He brought Woods down into a headlock and hit a unique Samoan drop. The Miz came in and tried to bring in Orton, but he refused to get in the ring.

McIntyre finally got the hot tag, and he started throwing Miz and Morrison around the ring while staring at Orton the entire time. He spiked JoMo with a Future Shock DDT and put him in the corner so Orton could tag himself in. The Viper refused and left his teammate to eat a Claymore Kick to give the good guys the win.

      Grade:B

      Analysis

This was a classic heel technique by Orton. Refusing to wrestle is the kind of thing that gets easy heat with a live crowd, especially when that person is a champion.

The New Day may have been in the match, but this felt like it was all about McIntyre and Orton, which is not necessarily a bad thing. This feud has been going for quite some time, but they are still good together, so it's not as bad as other storylines that have worn out their welcome.

The majority of this week's show was weak, but this bout, Ali vs. Ricochet and the Triple Threat match were all worth watching
