AEW Dynamite Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from November 25

Will Hobbs pledged his allegiance to Team Taz in the closing moments of last week's show with his attack on Darby Allin and Cody Rhodes and Wednesday night on TNT, the big man saw his first in-ring action since his career-altering decision.

How did the blue chip prospect fare and what further dominance would The Human Suplex Machine's collection of talent establish on the eve of Thanksgiving?

The answer to that question and more lies within this recap of the November 25 episode of All Elite Wrestling Dynamite.

Match Card

1 OF 7

    Announced for tonight's show are:

    • Hangman Page vs. John Silver
    • Will Hobbs in action
    • SCU vs. Jericho and Jake Hager
    • Pac and Rey Fenix vs. Butcher and Blade
    • AEW Women's Championship Match: Hikaru Shida vs. Anna Jay
    • Top Flight vs. The Hybrid 2

    Coverage begins at 8:00 PM.

Hangman Page vs. John Silver

2 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

"Dark Order is going to get a win tonight. Know why? Cuz Johnny Hungeee!"

Or so John Silver put it in a prerecorded promo ahead of his showdown with Hangman Page in the night's opening contest.

Silver showed off his arms early, then mocked Page's, only to eat a discus forearm to the face. Silver recovered and continued to take things lightly as Tony Schiavone pointed out on commentary that Page came to the ring without a beverage, perhaps hinting at a more focused Hangman than ever before.

Silver finally focused on the task at hand and wore Page down, packing his punches with power and delivering a German suplex for two. Page answered with a springboard clothesline that dropped his opponent off the apron.

Page fired up, building momentum on the strength of a Samoan Drop and standing shooting star press. Silver countered a Buckshot Lariat with a hurricanrana and rollup for two. A big kick and brainbuster followed for another near-fall.

Page countered a lariat attempt but ate a series of kicks to the body. He shook them off and delivered a lariat of his own, followed by a Liger Bomb for two. He added the Buckshot Lariat to finally put Silver away.

    Result

    Page defeated Silver

    Grade

    B+

    Analysis

Every time John Silver wrestles on an episode of Dynamite, he leaps off the screen, stealing the attention of the audience and enhancing his star. He has been a breakout star of the Being The Elite YouTube show and with every passing performance on TNT, he threatens to be the next breakout star in AEW.

Page was his typically great self, turning in another steady and consistent performance you hope to see out of a guy pegged by many as the future of the company. He could easily win the world title now and fit right in at the top of the card and that is a testament to both his own growth and the depth of the AEW roster.

The Dark Order trying to recruit Page after the match was an interesting development and should keep the anxious millennial cowboy busy for the foreseeable future, especially if it results in a feud with the faction.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Lee Johnson

3 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Just seven days after turning on Cody Rhodes and Darby Allin, the newly dubbed “Powerhouse Hobbs” battled Lee Johnson in singles action.

The smaller, faster Johnson tried to stick and run early but Hobbs got his hands on him and preceded to demolish the overmatched competitor.

He put him away with a massive powerslam for the uncontested victory.

Taz joined Hobbs in the ring with the FTW Championship. He took exception to AEW not recognizing the title for what it is. He claimed he would not leave the ring until someone from management came to the ring and acknowledged the title as meaningful.

His mic cut twice, Taz threatened to head to the commentary team. Rhodes appeared and said Taz was done. Claiming to come to the ring out of respect, Rhodes said they needed to end this because next week at Winter Is Coming, they will leave it all in the center of the ring.

As the segment turned heated, Rhodes asked Taz why his son was training with him instead of his own father. The Human Suplex Machine applied the Tazmission to the Executive Vice President of the company before leaving, his son Hook carrying the FTW title out of the arena.

    Result

    Hobbs defeated Johnson

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

There are certainly arguments to be made about fake shoots in wrestling, an overabundance of friends and family running rampant in AEW and the spotlight put on Taz rather than Powerhouse Hobbs in this segment but it is impossible to deny the heat and intensity between Rhodes and the former ECW Champion here.

It was compelling television that introduced Hook, Taz's son, to the fray.

What role he plays moving forward and whether he will have an impact on next week's tag team match pitting Rhodes and Allin against Hobbs and Ricky Starks remains to be seen.

Top Flight vs. The Hybrid 2

4 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Moments after their breakout match with The Young Bucks, Top Flight's Darius and Dante Martin suffered a sneak attack at the hands of The Hybrid 2's Angelico and Jack Evans. This week, they did battle, the young babyface team now official members of the AEW roster.

During the picture-in-picture commercial break, Evans and Angelico downed and isolated Dante until a hot tag sparked the comeback.

Darius rolled over both opponents, rocking Evans with a corner uppercut. A blind tag between the brothers Martin allowed for a double-team sitout powerbomb. Angelico broke up the pin.

A pair of dives wiped out the heels at ringside and a slingshot suplex from Darius, followed by a big frog slash from Dante, earned the team a two-count on Evans. The more experienced TH2 answered with some double-team offense, leading to a two-count.

The action broke down, Evans demolished Darius at ringside and Angelico forced a tapout from Dante for the impressive, hard-fought victory. When Angelico refused to break up the hold, The Young Bucks hit the ring to make the save, chasing TH2 off.

    Result

The Hybrid 2 defeated Top Flight

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

The effort was there, and AEW certainly spotlighted Top Flight, but this one went a bit longer than it had to. As a result, the action broke down late and there were more than a few disjointed spots down the stretch.

The appearance by The Young Bucks after the match and their chasing off of Evans and Angelico would seem to suggest Matt and Nick will go to war with TH2 sometime in the very near future. As a one-off television match to buy time between now and the pay-per-view, it is hardly a bad idea.

Nor is using the current AEW Tag Team Champions as mentors to the Martins, who have the raw ability to be the next great tag team in an already stacked tag division.

SCU vs. Chris Jericho and Jake Hager

5 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

The new, improved Inner Circle accompanied Chris Jericho and Jake Hager to the ring for a high-profile tag team match against SCU's Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian. The contest marked the first time in their Hall of Fame-worthy careers that Jericho and Daniels squared off with each other in any form.

Daniels and Kazarian out-quicked Jericho, downing him and adding a double stomp from the latter. A tag to Hager turned the tide in the heels' favor as the big man overpowered and punished Kazarian in the corner.

A trip-up by Santana at ringside allowed Hager to continue his dominance, this time over Daniels. The Inner Circle beat The Fallen Angel down heading into the break.

The heels worked over Daniels throughout the commercial timeout but he ultimately made the hot tag to Kazarian. The former tag team champion exploded into the bout, wiping out both of his opponents and diving over the ropes and onto the Inner Circle.

Daniels tagged back in and wiped Hager out with a tope suicida, then scored a near-fall off a crossbody on Jericho. Daniels continued his roll, delivering a Best Moonsault Over to Hager.

Ultimately, it was MJF's interference by way of a shot to the face with the Dynamite Diamond Ring to Daniels that led to Jericho's Judas Effect and Hager's pinfall victory.

    Result

    Inner Circle defeated SCU

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

This was about putting over the Inner Circle in its latest incarnation, with MJF and Wardlow, and the effect it will have on Chris Jericho's success moving forward. In that regard, it worked.

MJF figured prominently in the outcome, his interference leading directly to Jericho's victory. Such a creative development plants the seeds for MJF to ultimately usurp Jericho's leadership role, staking claim to the top spot in the Inner Circle by way of his constant assistance of The Demo God.

Daniels, in his first major match on Dynamite in months, reminded fans why he is one of the most respected in-ring performers of his generation while Kazarian again proved he may very well be one of the most underrated.

AEW World Championship Match Contract Signing

6 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Justin Roberts delivered another over-the-top introduction of Kenny Omega but before the top conteder to the AEW World Championship could make his grandiose entrance, Jon Moxley attacked, kicking his ass to the ring before delivering a Paradigm Shift on the world title.

“I don’t know who you hired to take me out last week but they did a piss-poor job,” Moxley said. “I thought we settled our difference a year ago, but then you had to go ahead and piss me off.”

Moxley went into hype mode with an intense promo. “Win, lose or draw, Winter Is Coming for you, Kenny.” He continued, “steady your aim and take you shot because you only get one.”

Moxley signed the contract before exiting as only he can.

    Grade

    A+

    Analysis

Jon Moxley has quietly developed into one of the best promos in wrestling, culminating in this segment, one of the very best to date in AEW. He was tonally on-point, resisted the witty one-liners he tends to break out from time to time and really hammered home the overall significance of what will unfold on next week’s broadcast.

It was intense, hyped next week’s world title match and told the audience everything it needs to know about the rivalry between champion and challenger.

Everything about this was phenomenal and next week’s title match should be one of the best matches of 2020.

AEW Women's Championship Match: Hikaru Shida vs. Anna Jay

7 OF 7

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Anna Jay’s first appearance on AEW Dynamite came on April 1 in a loss to Hikaru Shida. Wednesday night, she had the opportunity to right that wrong and capture her first women’s title in the process as she squared off with her familiar foe, all while her Dark Order cohorts watched from the stage.

After seizing control of the bout on the floor, Jay spent the commercial break working the lower limbs of Shida. The challenger dominated during the break, grounding Shida and working a headlock in the process.

Back from the break, Jay dropped Shida and ordered Tay Conti to retrieve a steel chair. With the referee distracted, Jay caught Shida in the leg with a kendo stick, then applied the Queen Slayer.

Shida fought out but nearly fell prey to a quick rollup moments later. The champion escaped and delivered a straightjacket suplex for a near-fall and followed with the Tamashii for the hard-fought victory.

After the match, as Shida made her way up the ramp, Abadon appeared. Shida crawled away in fear and watched as the undead competitor marked the title, insinuating she will be targeting it next.

    Result

    Shida defeated Jay

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

Again, the majority of a women’s match took place during the commercial break.

While others will point to the Jericho match from earlier as a match that went through the timeout, it still featured a good bit of action following the commercial. This one went from zero to 60 rapidly, rushed to a finish and cutting out everything in between.

The dissension between Jay and Conti will ultimately lead to a feud between the two, which will be a nice secondary program in a women’s division that doesn’t have much in the way of those.

The introduction of Abadon to the title picture is welcome but again, one has to wonder what the logic behind such a decision is when she has not been featured prominently in any way, shape or form and is now expected to be taken seriously as the next contender to Shida’s crown.

The women’s division needs considerable help, that much we know, but there were at least flashes of growth and evolution within here.

Which is not something that can be said every week.

After winning the battle for brand supremacy, WWE Raw hit the USA Network looking forward to the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view with new feuds, the latest developments in existing ones and a showdown between former tag team championship-winning partners.

What went down in the fallout from the annual fall classic, and how will it affect the brand in the weeks to come?

Find out with this recap of the November 23 episode.

Match Card

1 OF 9

    Announced for Monday's show:

    • Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Cross

Team Raw's Celebration

2 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

WWE official Adam Pearce kicked off the show, suggesting that one member of the victorious Team Raw would have the opportunity to challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship.

Sheamus balked at the idea of AJ Styles being the leader of the team and then brought up his long and sordid history with McIntyre. Keith Lee reminded Styles that he pinned the other team's captain to win the match, and Riddle repeated the word "dope" over and over again, in case you didn't already get his gimmick.

Braun Strowman took exception to being the last to state his case, grabbing Pearce by the collar and demanding that he be chosen before shoving his superior to the mat.

Styles and Co. checked on Pearce heading into the break.

    Grade

    C-

    Analysis

    This was...not particularly great.

Strowman snapping and assaulting Pearce felt really out of place considering he could have made like any of his teammates and jumped into the bickering any time he damn well pleased. Under those circumstances, being pissed off that you were chosen to go last seems silly and irrational.

Everything that preceded it was almost painful to watch, particularly Riddle's contributions.

Bad writing and worse delivery only further drag a segment deeper into the depths of the creative abyss.

    This was proof positive.

Raw Tag Team Championship Match: New Day vs. The Hurt Business

3 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

Set up by a confrontation earlier in the evening, The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods defended the Raw Tag Team Championships against The Hurt Business' Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander in a rematch from a week ago.

Benjamin and Alexander dominated early, sending Woods to the arena floor heading into the commercial break.

Back from the break, Kingston attempted to headbutt his way out of a superplex, only to be knocked from the top rope. He and Alexander fought on the floor but were late getting back to the ring, leading to a double count-out finish.

Confusion reigned supreme, the viewing audience even overhearing the official call The Hurt Business the winner. Eventually, after some nudging from MVP, the match was restarted.

Kingston fired off rights and lefts, but a scary back body drop to the floor left him nursing a left knee injury. Benjamin and Alexander expertly targeted it, working over the injured joint. Kingston finally created some separation and inched his way toward the corner, only for Alexander to pull Woods off the apron.

Kofi delivered the S.O.S. for a near-fall, but Alexander delivered a cheap chop block and trapped him in a leg lock. Kingston broke free and finally made the hot tag to Woods. The UpUpDownDown host exploded into the match and nearly scored the fall on more than one occasion.

Woods survived an Angle Slam from Benjamin and delivered a sunset flip bomb for the win.

    Result

New Day defeated The Hurt Business

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

Two commercial breaks and unnecessarily complicated booking plagued what would have been a great match on its own merit and talent.

Instead, it was merely good, with a gutsy performance from Kingston and a nice explosion from Woods.

The major issue with the entire ordeal was how bad it made The Hurt Business look.

Benjamin and Alexander could not win last week. They could not capitalize on a restarted match tonight to win the titles, and they let a New Day fighting from underneath because of a knee injury retain the titles. There is no logical reason The Hurt Business should be granted a rematch of any kind moving forward.

Knowing Vinnie Mac and his creative formula, we will see these two teams in a ladder match or table match come December 20, just cuz.

Riddle vs. Sheamus

4 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

After taking the cases of several Superstars under consideration, Adam Pearce announced three singles matches for tonight's show. The winners would meet next week in a Triple Threat match to determine the No. 1 contender to Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship at TLC.

    First up, Riddle vs. Sheamus.

An intensely physical battle saw Sheamus ground The Original Bro and work a submission style. Riddle countered into an armbar that forced The Celtic Warrior into the ropes for the break.

Riddle turned the tide in his favor, delivering an exploder suplex on the floor and following with the Bro-ton back inside the squared circle. Sheamus recovered and delivered the Irish Curse backbreaker for a near-fall.

Riddle answered with a barrage of kicks about the chest and body of his opponent, but Sheamus rocked him heading into the commercial timeout.

Back from the break, Riddle delivered a Floating Bro on the outside, but Sheamus responded with the Cloverleaf as he sought a submission victory. Riddle fought out but quickly found himself trapped in the heel hook. He stayed alive and rocked Sheamus with a kick to the head.

A Final Flash knee to the face put Sheamus down for two, leaving Riddle stunned. The fight headed to the ropes, where Sheamus delivered White Noise for yet another two-count as exhaustion set in.

A series of late-match roll-ups gave way to a modified victory roll for the upset victory, leaving Sheamus dismayed and irate.

    Result

    Riddle defeated Sheamus

    Grade

    B+

    Analysis

This was a kick-ass wrestling match, superphysical throughout, that probably could have lost five or so minutes and still been excellent.

This is the first time we have seen Sheamus and Riddle given the opportunity to have that type of match, and they did not disappoint. With a ton of television time to work with and the opportunity to beat the unholy hell out of each other, they produced a physical war that put over just how important advancing to next week's Triple Threat match really is.

High stakes, high energy and huge effort make this an easy thumbs-up.

'Firefly Fun House'

5 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

Another week brought with it another edition of the "Firefly Fun House."

    This week's topic? Friendship.

Bray Wyatt again made reference to Randy Orton burning down the Wyatt Compound before encouraging Alexa Bliss to dismantle her friendship with Nikki Cross. She battered Friendship Frog and then observed a moment of silence for the departed amphibian.

"It's a real shame he...croaked," Wyatt said before breaking out into laughter.

"See you soon, Nikki," he ended the segment.

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

The dark humor and over-the-top nature of the "Firefly Fun House" segments are so refreshing that no matter how weird, twisted or disturbing they may be, they are a welcome addition to the WWE product.

This was centered around a concept and further established the dark turn for Bliss. The result was a fun and harmless few minutes.

Something that can be said about most of these segments from the mind of Wyatt.

Asuka vs. Lana Gives Way to Tag Team Action

6 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

After lucking her way into the "sole survivor" at Survivor Series, Lana received a Raw Women's Championship match against Asuka on Monday night.

Unfortunately, before the match could begin, Women's Tag Team champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler let their presence be felt, attacking Asuka and drawing a disqualification. Jax and Baszler challenged Asuka and Lana, a challenge the babyfaces accepted.

Back from the break, a fired-up Lana unloaded on Baszler until Jax reached in and pulled her to the mat by her hair. The heels proceeded to work over her, punishing the overmatched competitor and cutting her off from her partner.

Baszler tried for a baseball slide but missed, allowing Lana to make the tag to The Empress.

The Raw Women's champion delivered a Codebreaker to Baszler, uncorked a hip attack in the corner and followed with a German suplex.

At ringside, Jax attempted to put Lana through the announce table, but The Ravishing Russian dodged and The Irresistible Force rushed over it.

Baszler applied the clutch to Lana through the ropes, allowing Asuka to seize the opening and score the pinfall victory.

    Result

Asuka and Lana defeated Jax and Baszler

    Grade

    C

    Analysis

The story here was all about Lana getting over at Jax's expense once more, and from that perspective, it succeeded.

The match, though, was not good and felt like a major waste of Asuka. It is something we should probably get used to, though, as it certainly feels like Lana and Asuka vs. Jax and Baszler will be the pay-per-view match.

Presumably in a tables match, which would make sense given the long story preceding the program.

Keith Lee vs. Bobby Lashley

7 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

Keith Lee battled United States champion Bobby Lashley (accompanied by MVP) in a match to determine the second entrant in next week's Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match.

The big men locked up and engaged in a test of strength, each jockeying for position early. Lee missed a blind charge in the corner, and Lashley delivered a big clothesline that barely stunned The Limitless One. The Flatliner put Lee down for a one-count, and Lashley failed to apply the Hurt Lock.

Lee fought out and quickly allowed himself to become distracted by MVP. Lashley rocked Lee at ringside and sent him face-first into the ring post heading into the commercial.

The All Mighty grounded Lee, looking to take away his raw power. He delivered a big suplex and teased the Hurt Lock, but Lee fought out. Lee leapfrogged Lashley, sending the U.S. champion crashing into the middle turnbuckle. A big pounce sent Lashley to the floor. A crossbody on the floor flattened Lashley as his larger opponent built momentum.

On the floor, MVP sent Lee into the ring post behind the official's back. Lee fought out of the Hurt Lock, drawing MVP into the ring for the save as the referee called for the bell.

    Result

    Lee defeated Lashley via disqualification

    Grade

    C-

    Analysis

    This wasn't very good.

A lack of chemistry, no semblance of story and an overreliance on the Hurt Lock teases made for a fairly tedious match.

And that is a major disappointment given the explosiveness of Lee and the raw power of Lashley. They simply did not mesh on this night.

Making matters worse? The idea that MVP would intentionally get his man disqualified, costing him a chance at more gold for The Hurt Business.

Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Cross

8 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

After a video package recapping the lengthy journey to the match, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross did battle, former tag team partners waging war in an intensely personal match.

Bliss toyed with Cross early, but Nikki unloaded weeks of frustration on her former friend. As Cross became more and more aggressive, Bliss dropped to her knees and cried tears of confusion. "I don't know what's happening," she said before embracing her former partner.

Bliss dropped her with an STO and scored the win.

After the match, Cross looked on in disbelief while a smiley Bliss made her way up the ramp.

    Result

    Bliss defeated Cross

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

Less of a match, more of a story, this was some excellent storytelling.

Bliss dragged aggression, anger and frustration out of Cross and then proceeded to use her emotions against her. She suckered Cross in, showing her a glimpse of the Lexi she became best friends with. Then she dropped her, just like she dropped her out of her life the moment Bray Wyatt and The Fiend came along.

It was great stuff that, hopefully, will only further the story and add layers to both Bliss and Cross' characters.

AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton

9 OF 9

    Credit: WWE.com

In the third match to determine the final competitor for next week's Triple Threat No. 1 Contender's match, Randy Orton squared off with AJ Styles, accompanied by his massive unnamed bodyguard.

Styles used The Viper's early aggression against him and, after the final break of the night, worked over Orton's leg with a brutal shin lock. Orton finally escaped the grasp of his opponent but quickly found himself in the Calf Crusher as The Phenomenal One attempted to force a tapout.

Orton made it to the ropes by his fingertips, just barely necessitating the break.

Styles delivered an enzuigiri, rocking Orton as he continued his relative dominance. As the fight spilled outside the ring, The Fiend appeared, providing a distraction that completely caught Orton off guard. As The Viper delivered a draping DDT, the lights went out and The Fiend appeared, startling Orton and setting him up for the Phenomenal Forearm.

Styles scored the win to advance to next week's Triple Threat match.

    Result

    Styles defeated Orton

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

The match itself was merely OK, but The Fiend's appearance was fantastic, and the impending feud with Orton should be a lot of fun. Especially taking into consideration the lengthy history between them.

Styles winning sets him up to be the most logical option to challenge McIntyre at TLC, and his presence in next week's three-way lends it the much-needed heel centerpiece to feed off babyfaces Riddle and Lee. At the very least, the match should be damn fun and a quality main event to the show to boot.
