'Twas the Monday before WWE TLC and all through the ThunderDome, Randy Orton watched over his shoulder, waiting for The Fiend to roam.

The final episode of Raw hit the USA Network airwaves with an episode dedicated to the last bit of hype for Sunday's Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view extravaganza. Drew McIntyre and AJ Styles wrote the latest chapter in their feud, Lana sought the biggest upset of her career against Nia Jax and the "Firefly Fun House" took a special field trip.

What went down just six nights before the final spectacular of 2020?

Find out with this recap of the broadcast.

Match Card

1 OF 13

    Announced for Monday's show:

    • "The Nightmare Before TLC" with AJ Styles and Drew McIntyre
    • Styles vs. Sheamus
    • The "Firefly Fun House" takes a ThunderDome field trip
    • The New Day and Jeff Hardy vs. The Hurt Business
    • Lana vs. Nia Jax

'Twas The Nightmare Before TLC...

2 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

The final Raw on the road to TLC kicked off with a special edition of "The Dirt Sheet," in which The Miz introduced the audience to "The Nightmare Before TLC."

Miz read a story out of a book that featured an appearance by AJ Styles and Omos, and John Morrison dressed as Braveheart.

"Chivalry's dead, like your title reign," Styles said as he drove a fake sword into Morrison's abdomen. Miz seemingly wrapped up the story with Styles climbing the ladder and winning the WWE Championship...only to switch things up to a finish that sees him cash in Money in the Bank.

Sheamus interrupted the "community performance theatre," and after an exchange of trash talk, their previously scheduled match took to the squared circle as the show headed to break.

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

So...that was far more amusing than it had any right to be. Miz was great, ditto Styles, who was fantastic as the overconfident heel who forgot the narrator possesses the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Sheamus appeared right on cue, and true to the WWE formula over the last 10 years, the opening segment gave way to a match.

Harmless fun, formulaic booking and a match between two strong in-ring workers to kick off the broadcast? Not too shabby for the start of the go-home show to TLC.

Sheamus vs. AJ Styles

3 OF 13

    Credit: WWE.com

Before Styles could make it to TLC for his showdown with WWE champion Drew McIntyre, he encountered Sheamus in a physical battle to kick off the in-ring portion of this week's show. The Celtic Warrior was relentless in his assault of The Phenomenal One early, but Styles tied him up in the ropes and unloaded with a flurry of strikes that stunned Sheamus and left him reeling on the floor.

Sheamus recovered with a release suplex, tossing Styles with reckless abandon twice. A throat thrust halted the Irishman's momentum. Sheamus recovered and teased a powerbomb off the ring apron, only for Omos to grab hold of Styles and stare the aggressor down heading into the break.

Back from the commercial, Sheamus elbowed his way out of Styles' grasp but quickly fell prey to a stiff kick to the back of the left knee. The Celtic Warrior fought his way back into the match, delivering the Irish Curse, only to further damage his knee.

Sheamus again encountered interference from Omos before finding himself trapped in a Calf Crusher that only further damaged his left leg. He managed to deliver White Noise but could not put his opponent away. As the fight headed to the ropes, Styles wiggled out of his opponent's grasp, pulled him down to the mat and stacked him up for the hard-fought victory.

Styles and Omos tied Sheamus' feet in the ropes after the match and attacked him with a steel chair.

    Result

    Styles defeated Sheamus

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

This would have been even better without the commercial interruption.

Styles and Sheamus have hellish in-ring chemistry, and the Irishman did a fantastic job of selling his left leg throughout. The injury smartly factored into the finish rather than Sheamus simply shrugging it off to hit his signature stuff, and the result was a stronger match.

The post-match beatdown essentially ensures Sheamus will not be around to interfere on behalf of McIntyre on Sunday, perhaps even clearing the way for the Money in the Bank cash-in Miz teased in the opening segment.

Good stuff here with potentially long-reaching storytelling implications, especially with McIntyre vs. Sheamus a sure thing at some point in the near future.

After all, where was the WWE champion to help his best friend?

The New Day and Jeff Hardy vs. The Hurt Business

4 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Riddle accompanied Jeff Hardy and Raw Tag Team champions The New Day to the squared circle for a match against Cedric Alexander, Shelton Benjamin and the United States champion Bobby Lashley as the babyfaces and heels wrote their latest chapter.

Hardy, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston rolled heading into the break, even stopping to dance in a blatant taunt of their opponents.

Back from the timeout, Lashley pulled Kingston over the top rope and to the arena floor in a show of his raw strength. A suplex continued the tag champ's agony as he nursed his lower back. The braggadocios, arrogant Alexander tagged in and targeted his ailing opponent's back.

The heels beat down Kingston for several moments until the former WWE champion made a much-needed tag to Hardy. Despite Alexander cutting him off, Hardy still managed a near-fall that sparked utter chaos. The action broke down, leading to a fight on the arena floor.

In the ring, Hardy and Alexander traded near-falls. A Twist of Fate rocked Alexander, who had blind-tagged Lashley into the match. A well-timed bit of interference by Alexander gave way to the Hurt Lock from Lashley as the U.S. champ scored the win for The Hurt Business.

    Result

The Hurt Business defeated New Day and Hardy

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

This was a relatively formulaic tag match, but that's not a particularly bad thing. WWE has mastered the layout of these multi-man tag matches, and they are typically all good-to-very good. This fell in line, previewing Sunday's tag title match between Kingston/Woods and Alexander/Benjamin.

It played up Kingston's knee injury, which he has nursed in consecutive weeks, as a potential weakness heading into the show, but most importantly, it continued to present Alexander as a breakout star of the heel faction.

The former cruiserweight champion was on here, doing the little things like arrogantly tagging himself in despite Lashley having full control of the match. He interfered to set up Lashley's win and is really seizing the spotlight this push has afforded him and making the absolute most of it.

It was interesting to see Hardy take the fall, as it no longer appears as though a date with Lashley over the U.S. title is in the works. Rather, a partnership with Riddle as "The Hardy Bros" figures to keep him occupied for the foreseeable future.

Whether you like it or not.

Lana vs. Nia Jax

5 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Raw Women's champion Asuka offered up a pep talk prior to Lana's showdown with Women's Tag Team champion Nia Jax, but no well-wishes or motivational gibberish could help The Ravishing Russian early as she endured the wrath of an increasingly frustrated Irresistible Force.

A headscissors stunned Jax. As the heel recovered and attempted a Samoan Drop from the top rope, Lana wiggled free, took out her opponent's knee and delivered a double stomp that drove Jax into the mat. She stacked her up for a monumental upset.

After the match, Shayna Baszler attacked Asuka from behind in the backstage area before joining Jax in the ring for a two-on-one beatdown of Lana.

The tag team champions punished the victor, targeting her left leg and ankle with a vicious attack before Asuka made the save.

    Result

    Lana defeated Jax

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

That was the payoff to the last three months of television, wasted on a meaningless episode of Raw before a tag team title match no one asked for. Lana shaking off all preconceived notions to upset Jax was the money match, and in typical WWE fashion, it overbooked the story, horribly timed the payoff and will limp into TLC for a match that will only serve to overexpose the program further than it already has been.

WWE's infatuation with wrapping the entire Raw women's division up in this storyline is still mind-blowingly shortsighted, but at this point, there really is no going back.

It will not result in Lana getting over to the extent management had hoped, if only because management overthought the whole thing from the very beginning.

It is unfortunate, really, because the potential was there for Lana to finally get over as a lovable underdog babyface.

Elias Introduces His New Bodyguard

6 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Elias returned to Raw two weeks after being electrocuted during his Symphony of Destruction match against Jeff Hardy, seconded by former Forgotten Son, Jaxson Ryker.

Ryker revealed he had a revelation, that Elias' music was the truth and he would protect the musician from attack by fellow Superstars.

24/7 champion R-Truth interrupted, drawing out Erik, Akira Tozawa, Drew Gulak and others, all of whom felt the wrath of Ryker.

He stood tall alongside Elias to abruptly end the segment.

    Grade

    D

    Analysis

    Oh, look, Ryker's back.

    Insert "eye roll" emoji.

Ryker's presence with Elias does nothing to help that character. Essentially, he is a background piece to a more charismatic performer, a bland bodyguard type on a show that already has Omos alongside AJ Styles.

Throw in more lazy 24/7 title nonsense, and you had a clunker of a segment.

Handicap Match: Keith Lee vs. John Morrison and The Miz

7 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Keith Lee promised The Miz and John Morrison the only thing they would win tonight was a coin toss. Not promising, considering the former tag team champions battled The Limitless One in a two-on-one handicap match.

The big man overwhelmed his opponents early on, but the heels seized control heading into the break. A double suplex drove Miz and Morrison into the mat coming out of the commercial, and then Lee fired up with a ferocious comeback.

He set up for the Spirit Bomb on Morrison, but The Shaman of Sexy escaped. A barrage of double-team strikes and a pileup on Lee allowed Miz and Morrison to score a big win.

    Result

    Morrison and Miz defeated Lee

    Grade

    D

    Analysis

Remember that time Keith Lee jumped to the main roster and spent weeks working with Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton as the next big thing in WWE?

Pepperidge Farm remembers. WWE Creative does not.

Lee has tumbled out of favor with the company and down the card, to the point that he already feels lackluster. Whatever specialness NXT created for him has been diminished exponentially by questionable booking decisions and Vinnie Mac's apparent hate for Lee's work.

A distaste that ended with The Limitless One being Sent Back  for fine-tuning, according to PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson.

The reported disconnect between Lee and McMahon was apparent in this latest bit of booking.

The 'Firefly Fun House' Invades WWE ThunderDome

8 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Bray Wyatt presented a special live edition of the "Firefly Fun House."

He vowed that there would be no fun or games at TLC when he squared off with Randy Orton. With that in mind, he told a joke or two, complete with laughter from Huskus the Pig, Ramblin' Rabbit and Mercy the Buzzard at ringside.

Hysterical laughter gave way to an appearance from Orton on the video screen. The Viper invited Wyatt to join him for a little game of hide-and-seek. An overjoyed Wyatt accepted the challenge. "Let the games begin!" he exclaimed before heading to the backstage area.

    Grade

    C

    Analysis

    Well...that didn't work.

Without the "Firefly Fun House" set, this was just another tired WWE promo segment, and not a particularly good one at that. Wyatt was fine, but there was nothing of any depth to anything that went on, and the result was one of the lesser inspired promos from the former Universal champion in recent memory.

The idea of hide-and-seek isn't necessarily the cure for the common segment, either.

Ricochet vs. Mace

9 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Ricochet's ongoing war with Retribution continued this week as he battled the imposing Mace in singles competition.

Despite a commendable effort by The One and Only, he was unable to thwart the interference of Slapjack and ultimately fell to Mace.

"It ends when you join Retribution!" Mustafa Ali said as his minions stood over the fallen Ricochet.

    Result

    Mace defeated Ricochet

    Grade

    D

    Analysis

This was certainly a match that happened.

Beyond that, it was an excuse to get all involved on television and continue the feud between Ricochet and Retribution that appears to have no real direction to speak of. At least not a direction that benefits anyone.

Either Ricochet ultimately gives in and joins the dead-end Retribution faction, or Ali and Co. lose, which will only expedite their disappearance into obscurity.

Either one is an indictment on the writing team and the creative forces that have bungled the usage of both acts.

Dana Brooke vs. Shayna Baszler

10 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Fresh off a beatdown of Lana that left her unable to compete at TLC, Women's Tag Team champion Shayna Baszler battled Dana Brooke in singles competition, Nia Jax accompanying her to the squared circle.

Baszler punished and beat down Brooke until Mandy Rose made the save, attacking Baszler and Jax with a kendo stick.

Asuka eventually made the save, chasing the heels off as Michael Cole and the announce team questioned who Asuka will find to be her partner at TLC.

    Result

    No-contest

    Grade

    C

    Analysis

So Lana scores the big win to pay off her months-long storyline, and six days before a PPV title shot, she is written out of the match?

How WWE managed to botch as easy a storyline as this is a question better left for those with the book.

Rose and Brooke standing tall with Asuka suggests they will be refocusing their attention on the tag titles and their rivalry with Baszler and Jax. What it does not do is shine any light on who Asuka's partner may be.

Hide-and-Seek Turns Fiendish for Randy Orton

11 OF 13

    Credit: WWE.com

The game of hide-and-seek between Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton culminated in the former discovering a chair he was synonymous with in a different life. Orton watched as Wyatt rocked in it and then attacked from behind. He trapped him in a wooden crate and then lit it on fire.

The Viper looked maniacal as he watched the flames roll, only to be left in stunned silence as The Fiend popped out from within and attacked him.

The Fiend put Orton down with the mandible claw to end the segment.

    Grade

    A

    Analysis

Every time Orton thinks he is one or two steps ahead of Wyatt, The Fiend emerges to knock him down a peg or six. He has repeatedly proved that The Viper, for all of his history of playing mind games, cannot hang with him.

The question is whether Orton will manage to utilize Alexa Bliss and the rich history between them against Wyatt in time for Sunday's PPV.

If not, we could have a one-sided match on our hands at TLC.

Either way, there is no denying the cool factor of The Fiend popping out of that crate and confronting a stunned Orton.

Riddle vs. MVP

12 OF 13

    Credit: WWE

Riddle continued his rivalry with MVP and The Hurt Business as he battled the former United States champion in the night's final bout.

The Original Bro rocked his opponent with a jumping knee early, added another and delivered the Floating Bro for a quick squash-match victory.

    Result

    Riddle defeated MVP

    Grade

    F

    Analysis

On a night of bloated television that saw more than one act overexposed, why even bother with this match?

The feud between Riddle and Hurt Business could have easily been covered in the six-man tag team match earlier in the night without booking a completely meaningless match with absolutely no bearing on the rivalry.

MVP was devalued, Riddle gained nothing and the match will not be remembered beyond the television timeout. Who else is glad this was added to the show?

WWE Championship Ascension Ceremony

13 OF 13

    Credit: WWE.com

Drew McIntyre joined AJ Styles, Omos and Tom Phillips in the ring for a special Championship Ascension Ceremony ahead of Sunday's Tables, Ladders & Chairs match for the WWE Championship.

Styles pointed out that McIntyre had never appeared in such a match, and Sunday he will take the WWE title. He pointed out McIntyre's loss to Orton at Hell in a Cell and questioned whether he can handle the pressure.

McIntyre issued a retort before Styles asked what if he is not the only one The Scottish Psychopath has to face at TLC.

Miz and John Morrison pounced, but the champion withstood the sneak attack and fought them off. Styles capitalized on a brief distraction by Omos and took out his foe's leg. The Phenomenal Forearm rocked McIntyre.

A beatdown with the ladder and chair continued the champion's suffering. Styles put McIntyre through a table and stood atop said ladder to close out the show.

    Grade

    C

    Analysis

What a painfully dull close to the show.

Even with the weaponry and the star power, this was just a mind-numbing main event segment that did nothing to make the audience want to see Sunday's main event any more or less.

Part of that could be due to the tired old insistence by WWE Creative that every babyface has to be an underdog in some form or fashion. Styles illogically suggesting McIntyre cannot handle the pressure, despite the Scot enjoying a dominant six-month reign earlier this year, is blatant rewriting of history and a complete lack of respect for its own creative.

The minute the writing team tries to present McIntyre as a babyface champion forced to overcome the odds, it completely loses that oh-so-important demographic that is tired of one-dimensional babyfaces.

Driving him through a table to earn Styles some manufactured heat does not help matters, nor will it make fans want McIntyre to win any more than they already want him to.

WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction, Highlights from December 11

Sana Ejaz Khan

    Credit: WWE.com

The Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view is just over a week away on December 20. Since WWE has already filled most of the card, this Friday's show was all about selling the big feuds.

After several physical encounters over the past several weeks, Carmella and Sasha Banks signed the contract for their upcoming SmackDown women's title bout at TLC.

Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode defeated The Street Profits two weeks ago, so Montez Ford was looking for some revenge when he took on The Showoff.

Last week's show also featured growing tension between Big E and Sami Zayn. The two met for a match this week, but the intercontinental title was not on the line.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on Friday's episode of SmackDown.

Montez Ford vs. Dolph Ziggler

1 OF 6

After the opening segment with Banks and Carmella ended quickly, Ford and Ziggler came out for their match. Both teams delivered promos before it got started.

The Showoff went for a single-leg takedown but Ford got to the ropes. Ziggler kicked him in the gut and raked his face across the top rope. A dropkick scored Ziggler a two-count.

Ford countered a dropkick and hit one of his own as he started to build some momentum. Angelo Dawkins prevented Robert Roode from interfering. Ford and Dawkins then called for Solo cups to rain from the ceiling as the show went to a break.

We returned to see Ziggler keeping Ford down in a headlock. He dropped several elbows on Ford before hitting a jumping elbow for a near-fall.

The SmackDown tag team champion started making a comeback as he countered some of Ziggler's signature moves. Roode attacked Dawkins and the distraction led to The Showoff hitting a superkick for the win.

    Grade: B

    Analysis

When you put two guys as athletic as Ziggler and Ford into the ring together, they are bound to have a good match. It's not rocket science.

Ziggler is and always has been a great heel. The way he plays to his opponents' strengths to make them look better is a skill some wrestlers never master. Ziggler has it down.

Ford's agility is unmatched and he continues to find new ways to impress. This was a good stop on the way to their eventual title match.

Big E vs. Sami Zayn

2 OF 6

We returned after a break to see Zayn in the ring ranting about how he doesn't have any merchandise. Big E made him a shirt backstage before the commercial to make him upset.

The powerhouse came out and threw his coat at Corey Graves before the ref called for the bell. Zayn made the announcers clarify that this was a non-title bout.

They locked up and Big E pushed the IC champion to the mat. The big man maintained control for a long time as he punished Zayn and talked trash at the same time.

Zayn had the upper hand for a few moments but Big E started throwing him around with belly to belly suplexes. The Great Liberator hit a crossbody but Big E rolled through. He hit an urinagi and Zayn immediately started acting like his hand was hurt.

He slapped E across the face and tried to run away. Big E chased him under the ring as the ref continued to count. Zayn made it back in to win by countout.

    Grade: C+

    Analysis

Countout finishes are never exciting but sometimes they work for storyline purposes. This is one of those times.

Zayn is a classic cowardly heel and what he did in this match was the ultimate jerk move. He and Big E had a fun encounter and it ended with the bad guy getting one over on the good guy.

This is not over, so Big E can easily recover by scoring a win to earn himself a title shot, possibly at TLC. Could this have been better? Yes, but they are leaving themselves room to grow.

Jey Uso and Kevin Owens Fight

3 OF 6

Roman Reigns and Jey Uso were backstage when Kevin Owens went to the ring. Uso asked if he could go get Owens and Reigns told him to do it.

KO delivered a promo with a table, a ladder and some chairs in the ring. He addressed Reigns directly and said all of those weapons would help him get back to the top of WWE.

Uso attacked him with a chair and went right after his knee. The Tribal Chief smiled as he watched Uce attack his TLC opponent.

Owens found a way to get the upper hand and put Jey through a table with a powerbomb. This brought out Reigns but Paul Heyman convinced him to do this on his time, not on Owens'.

After a break, Reigns attacked Owens backstage and took him out before he spoke right to the camera and asked KO's wife to talk some sense into him.

    Grade: B+

    Analysis

Poor Jey. No matter what he does to impress Reigns, he just ends up getting beaten down, usually with a steel chair.

This segment was predictable but effective. KO is great as a never-say-die fighter and Reigns is perfect as the overconfident champion who has backed up everything he has said so far.

This segment helped emphasize how their upcoming match is about more than just the title but it made sure to keep the Universal Championship as the main focus.

The Riott Squad vs. Billie Kay and Natalya

4 OF 6

Billie Kay and Ruby Riott started for their teams. Riott quickly made the tag so she and Liv Morgan could hit a double-team move. They kept Kay in their corner for a couple more tags. Natalya helped distract Morgan so Kay could hit a boot to the face.

The Queen of Harts dominated for a few minutes but Kay tagged herself in. Morgan kicked her into Natalya and hit a combo with Riott to get the win.

    Grade: D

    Analysis

This match was too short and had a sloppy finish. Natalya and Kay were supposed to collide but it ended up being minor contact. When Nattie didn't go down at first, it looked weird when she was off the apron a few seconds later.

Kay is a funny character but WWE was dumb to separate her from Peyton Royce. The Riott Squad looked good together but didn't get enough time to do anything memorable. This was a poorly booked match with subpar execution, which is a shame because all four women have proved they are capable of being better than this many times.

Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Chad Gable and Otis

5 OF 6

The new team of Otis and Chad Gable were out after the break to face former SmackDown tag champs, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura. Earlier in the show, Gable showed a clip of him training Otis.

Cesaro took Gable down right away. Gable tagged Otis and the big man took The Swiss Cyborg off his feet and then tagged Gable back in. They went back and forth like this a few times before Cesaro leveled Gable with an uppercut.

The Dozer tagged back in and took control again. Gable demanded to be tagged in again and he jumped right into the arms of Cesaro for the Big Swing. Nakamura came in and hit the Kinshasa for the win.

    Grade: C

    Analysis

Is Gable a heel? Is he just a cocky guy who wants to be good? Does Otis need him? These are all questions we have after this match.

The action in the ring was fine but the story of Gable trying to teach Otis only to end up losing for his team didn't make a lot of sense. Are we supposed to want Otis and Gable to win or should we want Otis to get tired of him and beat him up? Nobody knows.

Regardless, it's always nice to see Cesaro and Nakamura get a chance to wrestle, even if it's in a short match like this.

Sasha Banks vs. Carmella (SmackDown Women's Championship)

6 OF 6

Banks and Adam Pearce were in the ring to open the show. The Boss found there was no contract in the folder and started to get mad. Mella appeared on the screen and said she had already signed it before having it sent back out to her.

They traded insults and Carmella said she was The Queen’s Gambit not Tiger King. She said this while wearing an animal print design on her shirt.

Banks dared her to come out for a title match tonight and Mella agreed. Pearce made it the main event and at the end of the night, Carmella debuted her new entrance.

They locked up and Mella yanked Banks to the mat by her hair to get an early advantage. She kept The Boss on defense until Banks hit a knee to the face. Mella hit a facebuster on the apron as the show went to a break.

The Princess of Staten Island hit a crossbody from the top rope for a two-count before she applied the Code of Silence. Banks countered into the Bank Statement. Mella's henchman pulled Banks out of the ring while the ref was distracted. Banks attacked Carmella and got herself disqualified.

Mella superkicked her out of the ring and pushed her face into the ice bucket she was using for her champagne. She grabbed a bottle and smashed it over the back of Banks before pouring herself a glass and spraying the announcers with a different bottle.

    Grade: C+

    Analysis

This was the first time we have seen Carmella wrestle in seven months and based on what we saw, she didn't have much ring rust if any at all.

She and Banks meshed well together but it never felt like the title was going to change hands. It was obvious this bout would end with some shenanigans from the start.

The DQ finish will allow the feud to continue but this show already had a countout, so it felt a little excessive to include another non-finish.

AEW Dynamite Results: Winners, Grades, Highlights and Sting Reaction

This week's Dynamite was huge for the company as it immediately followed Kenny Omega and Tony Khan's separate appearances on Impact Wrestling during Tuesday's show.

Omega seemed to be back in full Cleaner mode after winning the AEW World Championship from Jon Moxley last week, and Don Callis was right there with him to stoke the flames.

Khan appeared during a paid advertisement alongside Tony Schiavone but Omega was the big story. This is the first step in what could be a valuable working relationship for the two promotions.

This week's show featured The Young Bucks taking on Hybrid2 in a non-title match, Eddie Kingston and The Butcher and the Blade took on Lance Archer and The Lucha Bros, MJF battled Orange Cassidy and both Shaq and Sting had scheduled interviews with Tony Schiavone.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's episode of AEW Dynamite.

The Young Bucks vs. Hybrid2

1 OF 9

    Credit: AEW

The show opened with Nick and Matt Jackson coming to the ring for their match with Jack Evans and Angelico. TH2 attacked The Bucks before the bell but it didn't help them get an early advantage.

Nick and Matt double-teamed them until they sent both men were sent out of the ring with dropkicks. They continued to control the pace as the fight spilled out of the ring.

Once they started using tags, Evans and Angelico still had trouble getting the upper hand. Evans hit a huge moonsault to the floor to take out Matt before he helped Angelico take out Nick with a double-team move.

After Matt injured his leg during a moonsault attempt, Angelico locked him in a submission while Evans kept Nick at bay. Nick was able to break the hold with a senton from the top rope but Matt's leg was already damaged.

    Grade: C+

    Analysis

The Bucks and TH2 are both talented teams but this match had a couple of issues. The first problem was a lack of selling most of the big moves that took place. They moved from spot to spot too quickly without letting anything land. They slowed down as the match progressed but still didn't do enough.

The second problem was the overall pace. There were times when it was hard to know which team member was legel on either side.

The third issue was the referee's complete lack of control. Refs are not supposed to draw attention from the action but they do need to be active participants by trying to enforce the rules.

This match is going to appeal to some fans and drive others up the wall, but that comes hand in hand with most matches involving The Young Bucks. This was fun but far from perfect.

Evans and Angelico have the potential to be one of the best teams in AEW if they are given the proper push against the right opponents. Evans had some great high spots.

It's Sting!

2 OF 9

Schiavone was in the ring with Cody and Arn Anderson to talk about Sting but before Cody could say anything, the lights dropped and Sting made his entrance.

Anderson left the ring and Sting gave Schiavone a hug. He talked about how Schiavone used to scream his name and asked him to do it one more time for the crowd.

Cody said he has been waiting a long time to share a ring with Stine but The Icon says he's not here for him. He pointed up at Darby Allin sitting in the stands with the TNT Championship.

He told Cody he plans to be in AEW for a long time and then said "See you around, kid."

    Grade: B+

    Analysis

Hearing Sting give his first non-WWE promo in years was great but he didn't exactly give us a lot to work with. All we know is he is interested in Alling for some reason.

Does he want to fight Allin or manage him? AEW is obviously trying to make him mysterious and so far, it's working.

The way he talked down to Cody at the end was a nice touch. It tells us this isn't a pure babyface Sting but he isn't a heel but any means.

FTR vs. Varsity Blondes

3 OF 9

Cash Wheeler Started out against Brian Pillman Jr. He took control and tagged in Dax Harwood to keep up the onslaught.

Pillman was able to turn the tables before he tagged in Griff Garrison. Pillman came back in and FTR quickly took him down with a double suplex.

After a commercial break, Pillman began to make a comeback. He tagged Garrison as Harwood came in and he took it to both members of FTR. He took them down with a double spear for a two-count.

    Grade: B-

    Analysis

This was a more traditional tag match than what opened the show. Pillman and Garrison used some high-flying moves but FTR kept them grounded enough to keep this from being a spot fest.

Once again, the pace could have been taken down a notch so people could sell a bit more. However, they did enough to make this a good performance.

The Varsity Blondes are young and have plenty of time to build themselves up. They looked good against a team known for its technical prowess.

Dustin Rhodes vs. 10

4 OF 9

The Dark Order's 10 took on Dustin Rhodes in the first singles match of the night. The rest of The Dark Order was nearby but Dustin had Lee Johnson with him for backup.

The Natural took control early with a series of body blows. He took 10 out of the ring and slammed his head into the guardrail. Ten took control by slamming Dustin on the apron.

He followed up with a big spinebuster. Dustin started to build some momentum after hitting a few uppercuts. He hit a running bulldog for the pin out of nowhere.

Evil Uno came down and tried to recruit Dustin to The Dark Order but all he got was a slap to the face. Uno told him he would be begging to join them soon.

    Grade: B-

    Analysis

Dustin's bulldog finisher is a little too basic but everything else he does always looks incredible. The fact that he is still this good at his age is a testament to his longevity and talent.

The talents of 10 cannot be overlooked but it's hard to judge how good he really is because Dustin makes everybody look incredible.

The attempted recruitment into The Dark Order could become interesting if Brodie Lee returns soon. Without him, the stable is more comedic than anything else.

The Inner Circle's Ultimatum

5 OF 9

Chris Jericho and The Inner Circle came to the ring to address Jericho's ultimatum that they work together or break up for good.

He gave a little speech before MJF asked if he could say something. He tried to convince everybody they were friends but Sammy Guevara got in his face.

Ortiz said MJF and Wardlow are great assets but not good people. He told Guevara to shake MJF's hand and make peace. He said Guevara needed to be the better man because he is better than MJF.

Guevara agreed to shake his hand but warned him and Jericho that if one more bad thing happens, he will quit The Inner Circle. Jericho wanted to move on but Jake Hager asked Wardlow why he keeps staring at him. They started trading insults before Jericho told them to stop staring at each other.

    Grade: C

    Analysis

This segment had some entertaining moments but at the end of the day, nothing changed. MJF and Guevara still hate each other and Jericho is still just trying to keep everyone on the same page.

This is one of those segments that probably looked good on paper but did little to move the storyline forward in practice.

The most interesting possibility is a match between Hager and Wardlow. Those two could have a legit hoss fight few in AEW could match. It would be hard-hitting and brutal. Make it happen, AEW.

The Lucha Bros and Lance Archer vs. Eddie Kingston, the Butcher and the Blade

6 OF 9

Archer started off the action by diving over the top rope onto all three opponents as he made his way to the ring. A huge brawl broke out that ended with Penta el Zero M going through a table at the hands of The Butcher.

Once the referee got both teams to their corners, Kingston and co. started focusing on Rey Fenix. They kept him cornered with quick tags and double-team moves.

The Bunny took a cheap shot while Aubrey Edwards had her back turned. Fenix countered a suplex with a handspring into a cutter. Both men made the tag and Archer started decimating The Blade.

He put The Butcher and The Blade in opposite corners so he could hit both men a few times. After the break, Kingston scored the pin on Fenix. Once the bout was over, Archer destroyed everyone.

    Grade: B

    Analysis

This match only had one week of buildup behind it but it already felt like a blood feud. Archer and Kingston are going to have some great matches in the future.

Taking out Penta early on was an odd move but it made Kingston's win easier to understand. The Blade and The Butcher looked good but were almost afterthoughts in this match.

Out of everything we had seen on the show up to this point, this match had the best action because it looked more convincing, especially when it came to Archer and Kingston.

Abadon vs. Tesha Price

7 OF 9

Abadon defeated Tesha Price in what can only be described as a squash match. She beat her down in the corner and shrugged off a punch from Price like it was nothing.

She kept up the attack after the match was over but Hikaru Shida came out with a kendo stick. She looked reluctant at first but eventually crashed Abadon over the head with the kendo stick.

Abadon sat up like The Undertaker and Shida took Price out of the ring to escape.

    Grade: C+

    Analysis

The match was nothing special but it accomplished the goal of making Abadon look dangerous and unhinged. What came after was what really sold this segment.

Shida helping Price was a classic babyface move but seeing Abadon sit up like the kendo stick shot did nothing was the image everyone will remember. Shida vs. Abadon in a rematch looks to be all but certain.

Kenny Omega Speaks

8 OF 9

Omega and Callis came out for an interview with Schiavone. He said he has never been as disgusted as he was last week when Omega stole the title.

Callis took the mic and spoke directly to Tony Khan through the camera. He said this was a lesson for him before talking about Omega being on Impact Wrestling on Tuesday.

Omega took the mic and talked about how this plan has been in place for over a year. He said nepotism is a beautiful thing and bragged about winning the belt from Moxley.

    Grade: A

    Analysis

Omega is officially a heel and AEW is all the better for it. Between his promos on Impact and Dynamite, he has firmly cemented himself as the top star in AEW by embracing his dark side.

It was surprising to see Moxley stay away but that is for the best. The rematch needs to be built up over time. The next time they trade blows should be at least a few weeks from now.

Callis was as enthusiastic as he has ever been. This was the kind of segment that will have people talking.

MJF vs. Orange Cassidy (Diamond Ring)

9 OF 9

MJF rushed Cassidy in the corner and stomped him to the mat. He broke OC's sunglasses before hitting a suplex for a one-count.

Cassidy reversed a suplex into Stundog Millionaire. MJF pulled him onto the apron and avoided an Orange Punch. He powerbombed Cassidy onto the apron and dared Trent to hit him.

OC tripped him into the corner but MJF popped right back up and hit a stiff elbow for a near-fall. The Inner Circle kept the ref distracted while Guevara threw Cassidy into the ring post.

We returned from a break to see Cassidy starting to build up a head of steam. MJF stopped his momentum and set up for the Heat Seeker. OC backdropped him out of the ring and hit a dive onto the entire Inner Circle. When they got into the ring, MJF hit his finisher but the ref caught him trying to use the ropes for leverage.

MJF took Jericho's bat and tried to pull an Eddie Guerrero. Cassidy outsmarted him and the ref saw MJF holding the bat and threw it out. Cassidy hit The Beach Break for a two-count.

Cassidy hit an Orange Punch but still couldn't get the pin. He hit a second but Wardlow put MJF's foot on the bottom rope to break the pin. A brawl broke out and Miro ran down to hit Cassidy with a huge clothesline out of nowhere. MJF made the cover and got the win.

    Grade: B

    Analysis

This was a good match, especially considering how many moving parts it had. The Inner Circle and Best Friends could have made this feel bloated but it never felt like MJF and Cassidy lost their focus.

MJF winning was somewhat surprising but as soon as Miro showed up, it became clear. Best Friends and Cassidy will continue their feud with Kip Sabian and Miro while MJF moves on.

This was definitely the best match to end the show. It had great action and a decent story to go with it.
