Sunday's Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view gave fans a lot to talk about, including the apparent murder of Bray Wyatt by Randy Orton

During their Firefly Inferno match, The Viper set The Fiend's entire body ablaze in the middle of the ring. It brought back memories of The Undertaker being burned in his casket, but this time, we saw the body go up in flames.

We also saw Charlotte Flair return to help Asuka win the Women's Tag Team Championships, and The Hurt Business defeated The New Day to become the new Raw tag team champions.

This week's Raw dealt with all of the fallout from Sunday's show while also setting up the Royal Rumble on January 26. Let's take a look at everything that happened on Monday's episode.

Opening Segment/Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose vs. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler

1 OF 9

Raw opened with Charlotte coming out to give her first promo since returning Sunday night to help Asuka win the Women's Tag Team Championships from Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. She talked about being in the ThunderDome for the first time and walking in as champion. She said all a friend had to do was ask for her help, and that was what Asuka did. She introduced The Empress of Tomorrow as her friend and partner.

Asuka bragged about being a double champion. Charlotte seemed like she was about to ask for a Raw women's title shot before Jax and Baszler interrupted them. After some trash-talking, Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke came out. They said they wanted a women's tag title shot, but Charlotte suggested the two teams face each other while she and Asuka watch. Apparently, The Queen has booking power because a ref showed up.

The match got going after the break. Rose and Baszler started for their teams. Surprisingly, Rose took down the MMA fighter a few times and cornered her for some shoulder thrusts. Brooke and Rose were brought in, and the former bodybuilder took down The Irresistible Force with a headscissor takeover. Brooke and Rose took down both women with a double crossbody from the apron.

After another commercial break, Brooke hit Jax with a series of forearms. Baszler tagged in and took her down with a shot to the body. She worked over Brooke's leg. The Golden Goddess hit a few strikes and a suplex as she made a comeback. Brooke tagged in and hit a round-off splash for a two-count. The match ended when Baszler got the submission win over Brooke.

    Grade: C-

    Analysis

The opening promos were clunky and poorly written, especially when it came to the weak insults delivered by Brooke and Rose.

The match that followed wasn't bad and actually exceeded expectations, but it still shouldn't have taken up the first three segments of the show.

Rose and Brooke looked better than they have in other recent bouts but still have some work to do when it comes to building chemistry and coming up with some good double-team spots. This would have been better in the middle of the show.

After such a strong PPV, WWE should have opened with somebody like Drew McIntyre or Orton to capitalize on the attention their matches received.

Angel Garza vs. Drew Gulak

2 OF 9

Angel Garza gave a quick interview backstage before heading out to face Drew Gulak. They locked up, and Garza got the first few strikes before Gulak planted him with a side slam.

Garza tried to apply a submission, but Gulak reversed it on him. The Latin Lothario broke free and hit a hip toss for a two-count. Gulak fired back with some punches, but he ran into a boot to the face.

Garza nailed him with a superkick before hitting the Wing Clipper for the win.

    Grade: C+

    Analysis

This was a solid encounter, but it was way too short to be anything special. These two looked like they could have put on a great show if they were given 10 minutes.

Garza finally being used on TV again is nice to see. He is still pursuing some mystery woman, so we will have to wait and see if WWE follows up on it with anything interesting.

'Miz TV'

3 OF 9

The Miz opened this episode of "Miz TV" by saying he failed to cash in the Money in the Bank contract successfully and let down his family. He apologized before bringing out his guest, AJ Styles.

The A-Lister told Styles he tried to take advantage of an opportunity Sunday, but Styles told him to shut up. He called Miz selfish and incompetent. He even claimed The Miz cost him the title and said both men lost because of him. The Miz got angry and said he knew that and it was why he was so pissed.

The A-Lister ranted about how long he had been trying to get back to the top of WWE and be the posterchild of the company. He showed what appeared to be some real emotion when he talked about how this was his path to earning the respect he deserved.

He apologized to Styles and said both men were robbed because he blew it. He offered Styles a role in the next Marine movie, and it led to an argument between everybody, including Omos. John Morrison and Styles almost came to blows before Miz got between them and said he just realized something. Morrison cashed in for him and he thought he should get the contract back since he was the only one who could cash it in.

Drew McIntyre showed up and reminded them of their match later in the show. He recited a poem and was joined by Sheamus and Keith Lee. They got in the ring and started a brawl.

    Grade: B

    Analysis

Using the detail of The Miz not being the one to hand in the contract at TLC was low-key brilliant. Small details like that can make a storyline a lot better.

The Miz was on point with his promo. We have heard this song and dance from him before, but he always delivers this kind of speech with conviction and emotion.

Morrison and Styles added some needed levity, and the brawl was a decent way to end the segment, but it should have led right into the six-man tag match instead of being separate.

T-Bar vs. Ricochet

4 OF 9

Ricochet rushed T-Bar after the bell and tried to get the upper hand right away. The big man caught him trying to hit a crossbody and hit a few knees to the body before throwing him to the mat.

He grounded Ricochet for a bit, but the high-flyer sent him over the top rope and took out Slapjack on the apron with a dropkick through the ropes. He also took down Mace, but T-Bar was able to nail him from behind with a clothesline.

Mustafa Ali yelled at Ricochet that he belongs with them before T-Bar hit his finisher for the win.

    Grade: C

    Analysis

Ricochet is always easy to watch because everything he does is so fluid. T-Bar is obviously gifted, but he hasn't had many opportunities to show it since his days in NXT as Dominik Dijakovic.

They had a decent back-and-forth fight before the rest of the group got involved, but like Garza vs. Gulak, this bout didn't have enough time to leave a lasting impression.

'The VIP Lounge'/MVP and Bobby Lashley vs. Riddle and Jeff Hardy

5 OF 9

After MVP gave a short promo, Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander talked about winning the tag titles. Alexander cut Benjamin off, but they didn't address it.

Boby Lashly spoke next and said there is not a man alive who can beat him for the U.S. title. MVP asked them to pose for a picture. R-Truth appeared behind them holding up the 24/7 title. A bunch of Superstars chased him away from the ring.

Riddle and Jeff Hardy came out on the stage and traded some words with The Hurt Business. Their match didn't happen until about half an hour after this segment instead of right away, which is what would usually happen.

Lashley took Riddle down right away when the match began. He brought him to the corner so he could tag MVP to keep up the beating. Hardy eventually got the tag, and they did some double-team spots together. We returned just as Hardy was knocked off the top rope onto the steel steps.

The Charismatic Engima was slow to get back into the ring. After Lashley and MVP punished him for a bit, Hardy made the tag to Riddle. The former MMA fighter went on a rampage, but Lashley saved MVP from being pinned. The All Mighty finished Hardy off with the Hurt Lock.

    Grade: B-

    Analysis

"The VIP Lounge" segment allowed Alexander to shine on the mic with his new attitude, but as soon as Riddle got involved, it was a lot less entertaining.

Riddle and Hardy worked well together during the match, but their promo styles don't mesh at all. WWE is trying to make Riddle popular by pairing him up with somebody the crowd loves, but that won't work if they have no chemistry.

Lashley and MVP getting the win was the right call. The match was good, but the segment earlier in the night had its ups and downs.

Gran Metalik vs. Jaxson Ryker

6 OF 9

As Elias was giving a promo, Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado came to the ring. This immediately turned into a match between Jaxson Ryker and Metalik. For some reason, Elias was allowed to sit on the top turnbuckle and perform until Metalik took him down with a hurricanrana.

Ryker hit the luchador with a chokeslam for the win.

    Grade: D-

    Analysis

What was this? Was this match scheduled or was it impromptu? If it was made in the moment, why was a referee there so quickly?

This was the definition of a filler segment. There's not much more that can be said about this. If Elias had actually gotten to sing, it might not have been such a waste of time.

Randy Orton Speaks

7 OF 9

Orton came out and said he has been called a lot of things during his career like sick and twisted. He said he proved he was all of those things last night when he burned The Fiend alive.

The Viper spoke about how the smell of burning flesh lingered and he could still smell it in the ring. The voices in his head were gone after last night. All he hears now is the sound of Wyatt gasping for his last breath.

The lights dropped, and the usual sounds that accompany The Fiend echoed. When the light came back on in the ring, Alexa Bliss was sitting there on a swingset. She said Wyatt built it for her and she invited Orton to play with her.

She speculated about where The Fiend could be at that very moment and made some jokes about him being burned. She said Wyatt was home now, but if he ever came back, it would be like nothing Orton had ever seen. The lights went out again as she stared him straight in the eye.

    Grade: A

    Analysis

Bringing back Wyatt the night after Orton set him on fire would have been a mistake. He needs to stay away for a little while, and this segment set up his hiatus perfectly.

Bliss is so great in this role, and The Viper has always been amazing at playing the heel who doesn't care about who he hurts to get what he wants.

The only downside to all of this is Bliss might be off TV while The Fiend is gone. It would be great if she stuck around and competed in her own matches while we wait for his return.

Asuka and Charlotte vs. Peyton Royce and Lacey Evans

8 OF 9

Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce appeared to have some tension during a backstage interview before the match took place.

Royce and Asuka kicked things off with an exchange. Evans tagged herself in, and she was able to sweep Asuka's leg but missed a slingshot elbow.

Royce tagged back in and scored a two-count. After a commercial break, Royce and Evans beat down Asuka in the corner. They kept tagging themselves in and arguing with each other but managed to keep Asuka cornered until she hit Royce with a suplex.

The Queen got the tag and took out both opponents with ease. She ended up getting the win with a Figure-Eight.

    Grade: C-

    Analysis

This match was just another reminder that breaking up The IIconics was shortsighted and dumb. Peyton Royce and Billie Kay worked so well together because their friendship was real. Now, neither of them has a clear direction.

This is one of those rare matches where nobody benefitted at all. Royce and Evans never should have been a team to begin with, and Asuka and Charlotte gained nothing by defeating two women who don't work well together.

Some of the action was good, so this wasn't a total wash, but it wouldn't be hard to think of several segments that would have done better in this slot.

Sheamus, Lee and McIntyre vs. Styles, Miz and Morrison (Holiday Street Fight)

9 OF 9

The main event of the evening saw Keith Lee, McIntyre and Sheamus team up to battle Styles, The Miz and Morrison. During their scuffle earlier in the show, Lee accidentally took out Sheamus and caused some friction.

Sheamus and JoMo started the match with an exchange of strikes. Morrison brought him down and tagged in The Miz to stomp him into the mat. The WWE champion tagged in and took control of Morrison until The Monday Night Delight took out his knee.

Lee came in and launched Morrison across the ring with McIntyre. He tagged Sheamus back in, and they hit a double shoulder block. They worked together to take out Styles and Miz, too. Their playful banter almost led to another fight before the break.

Sheamus was in control of Styles when we returned. He and McIntyre hit Miz and Morrison with the 10 Beats of the Bodhran before Lee grabbed both men and ran them into the apron. They slowly started to incorporate some of the stuff around the ring.

McIntyre powerbombed Styles through a table with a bowl of eggnog to make a huge mess. Sheamus tagged himself in to hit the Brogue Kick, but Lee also tagged himself in. Omos put Morrison through a table while Lee beat Miz with a Spirit Bomb. Sheamus immediately hit Lee with a Brogue Kick and McIntyre yelled at him as the show ended.

    Grade: B-

    Analysis

This was a good match, but it went on longer than necessary. They waited too long to use any kind of weapons, and when they did use them, it was sparingly.

The tension between Sheamus and Lee will likely continue to build up leading to a fun spot during the Royal Rumble, especially if one of them wins.

McIntyre is continuing to grow as a top star and looked more confident than he did during his first title reign. This was a decent ending to a hot and cold episode of Raw.

WWE TLC 2020 Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights

The final WWE pay-per-view of 2020 took place Sunday night as the roster took to the new Thunderdome inside Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida for TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs.

The show featured two TLC matches, a Firefly Inferno match and four standard bouts, so the individual matches involving each weapon were left out this year.

Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre defended their championships in the two main event contests against Kevin Owens and AJ Styles, respectively.

We also saw The Fiend battle Randy Orton, while Carmella challenged Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women's Championship. Asuka and a mystery partner faced Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the women's tag titles, The New Day lined up against The Hurt Business, and a big eight-man tag match kicked off the show.

Let's look at everything that happened at Sunday's TLC event.

8-Man Tag Match

1 OF 7

WWE kicked off the action on the pre-show with an eight-man tag bout featuring Big E, Otis, Chad Gable and Daniel Bryan taking on Baron Corbin, Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn.

Gable and Zayn started off in the ring but both men immediately tagged out so Big E and King Corbin could square off. They locked up and fought for control. They each had a successful takedown before Gable and Cesaro came in.

The match progressed with a quick pace as both teams cycled everyone in and out of the ring. Cesaro and Bryan had a nice exchange when they were in the ring together.

The Yes Man ended up spending more time in the ring than most of his teammates after the heels kept him isolated for a little while. Otis got the hot tag and started bulldozing over Nakamura.

The obligatory sequence where everyone traded takedowns led to Big E countering Zayn's Helluva Kick before finishing him off with the Big Ending for the win.

    Grade: B-

    Analysis

Eight-man tag matches can often feel bloated and frantic but these eight Superstars made sure this one had a good flow and allowed everyone to have at least one moment to shine.

It followed the typical formula for bouts like this. Everyone had some time in the ring, a huge brawl broke out and the finish was quick.

Bryan and Cesaro's sequence together stood out as the best but we also saw some fun moments from Big E, Zayn and Otis. All in all, this was a solid way to open the show.

This match also did something else. It highlighted how many great Superstars WWE has on its roster who don't have much to do these days. It's a good problem to have but it's still a problem when somebody as talented as Cesaro doesn't have a storyline.

Drew McIntyre vs. AJ Styles (TLC, WWE Championship)

2 OF 7

When the ref called for the bell, The Phenomenal One immediately went for a low dropkick to take out the leg of McIntyre. He unloaded on The Scottish Warrior until he tried a suplex and McIntyre reversed it to deliver a huge slam.

The WWE champion began to decimate Styles by using his significant size and power advantage. The Phenomenal One avoided a suplex through the table but McIntyre was able to drop him on the barricade. He grabbed a ladder and tried to set it up in the middle of the ring. As he climbed up to get his title, Styles hit him in the legs with a chair to bring him back down. McIntyre sent Styles' head into a chair that was wedged in the corner.

The challenger attempted to hit a Styles Clash on a ladder but McIntyre countered into a Future Shock DDT. The Scottish Warrior picked up the ladder and hit Styles with it but didn't get all of the hit. The Phenomenal One went back to his knee to brought him down with a chop block. He pulled McIntyre's leg through the ladder to apply a brutal Calf Crusher.

He also used a chair to make the hold more painful a few moments later. He kept focusing on McIntyre's leg as they fought out of the ring. Styles rammed a ladder into the champion's face before he cleared off a table. He tried to springboard out of the ring but McIntyre threw a chair into his face. He favored his leg as he brought a table into the ring.

The Scottish Warrior threw Styles into a ladder with a belly to belly. Styles recovered and drilled him with a Phenomenal Forearm. He set up another ladder and began to climb. McIntyre pulled him off the ladder and threw him through the table at ringside. The Miz and John Morrison interfered and put the champ through a table. The Miz cashed in his contract and turned this into a triple threat TLC bout.

The A-Lister began to climb with a smile on his face but Omos came into the ring. He pulled Miz down and dropped him through another table. Morrison hit him with a chair and it shattered against his back without affecting him at all. Omos pursued him up the ramp to the back. All three men began to stir but it was Styles who got to his feet first. He and McIntyre climbed opposite sides of the ladder and began to fight. The Miz set up a second ladder next to them and climbed up.

All three men almost grabbed the belt at different points but after several close calls, it was McIntyre who claimed the belt for the victory.

    Grade: A

    Analysis

What a match. This had everything. It started with a nice methodical pace as both men held back from using the weapons to make it mean more when they were finally in play.

Styles did some excellent work trying to injure the leg of the champion. It was logical to take out the big man's limb so he couldn't climb a ladder quickly.

The Miz's cash-in was predictable but still made the final minutes of the match unpredictable. It genuinely looked like all three men were going to win at different points.

Omos finally did something and looked like a beast taking that chair shot to the back and showing no signs of pain as it broke into several pieces. Having him chase Morrison was a great way to take him out of the equation.

Everybody did an amazing job making this a match that will be hard for anyone to top for the rest of the night. Whoever produced this match also deserves credit for putting it together.

Sasha Banks vs. Carmella (SmackDown Women's Championship)

3 OF 7

As soon as the referee called for the bell, Carmella rolled out of the ring. Once she got back in, The Boss took control and scored a quick two-count. Banks threw her out of the ring but Reginald, her sommelier, caught her. He tossed her at Banks so she could hit a hurricanrana on the floor. She ran Banks into the steps and brought her back in for a near-fall.

Mella took over and grounded The Mandalorian star in a chinlock. The Koska Reeves actress broke free and hit a meteora for two. Carmella dropped her on the apron and Banks fell hard to the floor. The Princess of Staten Island pulled her arms back for a submission while verbally berating her.

Once again, Banks escaped and began to build some momentum with the Three Amigos. She followed up with a frog splash for a close two-count. Mella hit a huge facebuster but failed to keep Banks down for the pin three times. Carmella made full use of the five-count to apply some illegal holds in the ropes.

She drilled Banks with a superkick but the champ grabbed the bottom rope to break the count. They traded pinning combinations until Mella applied The Code of Silence. She transitioned into a double chicken wing but had to release it when Banks rolled over into a cover.

The Boss locked her in the Bank Statement but Reginald pulled Mella out of the ring. Banks took him out with a meteora from the apron and it allowed Carmella to hit her with a pair of superkicks for a close two-count. The champ countered into the Bank Statement one more time to get the submission victory and retain her title.

    Grade: A-

    Analysis

When you have to follow a match like Styles vs. McIntyre, you are fighting an uphill battle. Banks and Carmella showed up and made sure nobody was going to overlook them as a cooldown act.

Carmella started the match with a classic heel move. Avoiding contact only to get the upper hand a moment later is the way so many heels have gotten started because it's a formula that works.

Everything they did looked smooth and Mella proved she had no ring rust after not being active in the ring for a few months. If anything, this is the best she has ever looked.

The interference from Reginald wasn't necessary but it didn't take anything away from the quality of the match.

The New Day vs. Hurt Business (Raw Tag Team Championships)

4 OF 7

Kofi Kingston and Cedric Alexander started the match. Alexander ran right into a superkick to give Kingston a quick two-count. Xavier Woods tagged in and hit a huge diving leg drop for another near-fall.

Shelton Benjamin fruitlessly reached for a tag as he watched The New Day members take turns beating up his partner. Benjamin saved him from a pin and Alexander was able to make the tag. The Gold Standard unleashed a couple of textbook suplexes on Woods while MVP helped Alexander at ringside.

The New Day took control again and Woods hit a tornado DDT to Benjamin. The former United States champion hit a knee to the face and sent Woods out of the ring. Alexander tagged in and rolled him back in for a two-count.

The Hurt Business used quick tags to cut the ring in half. Woods eventually made the tag and Kingston came in hot with a springboard dropkick. Benjamin impressively countered The Boom Drop by popping up and catching Kingston in the air but the former WWE champion managed to keep the upper hand.

He took out both opponents and set up for Trouble in Paradise. Alexander dodged it and nailed him with a jumping knee followed by a brainbuster. Woods barely managed to break up the pin. Alexander and Benjamin took him out so they could focus on one man.

Kingston rallied but Benjamin brought him down from the top rope with a superplex. Alexander tagged himself in and hit The Lumbar Check for the pin to win the Raw tag titles.

    Grade: B+

    Analysis

As expected, both teams brought their A-game to put on a fun tag title match. The way it ended with Alexander stealing Benjamin's glory planted the seeds for some tension down the line but it was a good finish nonetheless.

Woods and Kingston, along with Big E, deserve to be in the conversation of the greatest tag teams of all time. Even when they lose, they look great.

The Hurt Business adding more titles to the stable is a good thing as they have been one of the best parts of Raw for a long time.

MVP not having a big impact on the outcome helped make Alexander and Benjamin's win feel more special in the end. This was another fun entry on the TLC 2020 card.

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler vs. Asuka and Charlotte

5 OF 7

The champions made their entrance first so WWE could reveal Asuka's mystery partner last. The Empress of Tomorrow brought out the returning Charlotte Flair.

Asuka and Baszler started off with a nice exchange of strikes and takedowns. The Queen asked for the tag and The Empress was happy to oblige. Charlotte ran over Baszler with a clothesline and tried to lock in the Figure Four right away. Baszler got to her feet and tagged in Jax.

Flair brought her to the corner in a headlock so she could tag Asuka. The Irresistible Force easily countered a sunset flip and hit a big headbutt. She threw Asuka's shoulder into the post and then held her down so Baszler could stomp on her left arm. She manipulated the joints of Asuka to cause more pain.

The champions dominated The Empress for a long time before she was able to make the tag to The Queen. Ric Flair was shown watching backstage as Charlotte unloaded on Jax with chops. She hit a big boot for a two-count. She took out both opponents with a moonsault but Jax was able to counter the Figure Four. Asuka made a blind tag and hit a missile dropkick.

Baszler came in and tried to apply the Kirifuda Clutch. Flair tagged back in and put Baszler in the Figure Eight. Jax pulled Charlotte's arms out from under her so Baszler could break the hold. The Queen hit Natural Selection for the pin to win the women's tag titles with Asuka.

    Grade: B-

    Analysis

This was easily the best match Jax and Baszler have had since teaming up and a lot of it has to do with who they were facing.

Asuka and Charlotte have fought many times but they made for a good team. With Asuka now holding two belts, it will be interesting to see if Charlotte asks for a title shot in exchange for helping her win the tag belts.

This bout kept the show moving in the right direction and was much better than what we would have gotten if WWE had kept Lana in the match.

The reveal of Charlotte was spoiled earlier in the day by a lot of journalists but the match lived up to its potential.

Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens (TLC, Universal Championship)

6 OF 7

Reigns came out with Paul Heyman by his side to defend the universal title against Owens. The Tribal Chief watched closely as his title was raised above the ring and KO appeared out of nowhere to attack him while he was distracted. He beat down The Big Dog and hit a cannonball in the corner. He followed Reigns out of the ring and hit another cannonball against the barricade. He got on the apron for a frog splash before grabbing a ladder and putting it in the ring.

Jey Uso ran down to help his cousin but KO was able to take him out with a chair. He hit Reigns for good measure before he went back to Uso and stomped on his ankle in the chair to neutralize him for as long as possible. Reigns hit a drive-by dropkick to KO as some officials helped Uso to the back.

The champion used a set of steel steps to do some damage and Heyman watched with his mouth agape at the brutality. Reigns used a ladder as a weapon before he brought some chairs into the ring. He ended up putting Owens through the chairs with a back body drop before he tossed him out of the ring. The Prize Fighter came back in with a chair and beat down the champion.

He set up a chair and hit a fisherman's suplex right onto it. Uso showed up again to prevent him from climbing the ladder. The Tribal Chief hit a Superman Punch and Uce grabbed a table. KO hit Reigns with a Stunner and Uso with a superkick out of desperation. He put the ladder back up and tried to climb but Uso pulled him under the ropes.

Owens powerbombed him through the announce table. KO and Reigns fought in the ring until the champ powerbombed the challenger onto a ladder. The Big Dog brought him out of the ring and put him through another table. Reigns went for the title but KO grabbed his foot. The champion laughed as he climbed back down to deal with what he saw as a nuisance. Owens slapped him and Reigns Speared him through a table.

Owens got back to his feet outside the ring and told Reigns he would have to kill him. Reigns lined up for a Spear but KO moved and he went through the barricade. The Prize Fighter climbed the ladder but Reigns managed to grab his leg and pull him down. Owens hit a Popup Powerbomb through a table out of nowhere. Uso stopped him from taking down the title and gave The Tribal Chief enough time to climb up with him and choke him out on top of the ladder. The Big Dog grabbed the title to get the win.

    Grade: A

    Analysis

Owens and Reigns came into this contest having watched Styles and McIntyre burn the house down, but they were up to the task of matching them in every way.

The intensity of both men was off the charts. This was a top-tier performance from both Superstars with Uso providing just enough backup to give Reigns the edge.

The way they started with KO attacking Reigns out of nowhere helped make the match immediately feel different than the TLC bout we saw earlier. They used the weapons more often but in ways that made sense.

It would have been cool to see Jimmy Uso return but that might have been one too many people involved. Frankly, this should have closed the PPV.

Randy Orton vs. "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt (Firefly Inferno)

7 OF 7

The ring announcer stated the same rules as a normal Inferno match before Orton made his entrance, so it's only called a Firefly Inferno match because Wyatt is involved. Anyone expecting another cinematic match was disappointed.

The bell rang and both men stared at each other as The Viper circled The Fiend. He took the first shot but Wyatt laughed it off like it was nothing. After Wyatt hit Sister Abigail, he motioned and the flames appeared around the ring.

This was a different setup than most Inferno matches. The fire was by the barricade instead of on the apron. It was a cool visual but made little sense. Wyatt grabbed a belt and lit it on fire. He tried to hit Orton with it but missed.

The Fiend found a pickaxe under the ring and tried to murder Orton with it. He doused a rocking chair in gasoline and left a trail leading to it. He sat The Legend Killer in the chair and lit the trail. Orton moved at the last second to avoid being lit up.

Orton used an ax handle and the steel steps to attack Wyatt. He almost put The Fiend's face into the fire but Wyatt broke free. He grabbed the ax handle and lit it on fire but Orton knocked it out of his hand. The Fiend applied the Mandible Claw but Orton pushed him into the flames and set him on fire.

The Fiend ran at him and Orton hit him the RKO to Wyatt as the flames began to die down. The Viper grabbed a gas can and doused The Fiend. He grabbed some matches, lit one and dropped it onto Wyatt as the announcers screamed at him to stop. Wyatt's body went up in flames and the show ended with a shot of him burning in the ring.

    Grade: B

    Analysis

How do you rate a match like this? Inferno bouts are already so different as it is, but this one was even more out there than usual.

As a wrestling match, it was nothing special. This was something that was halfway between a normal Inferno match and a cinematic bout, so it had some wild moments that wouldn't usually happen.

Not only did we see both men try to kill each other multiple times, but Orton actually lit Wyatt on fire and the show ended with his body continuing to burn. This is going to be hard to sell in the coming weeks but it made for a cool ending to the show.

While there was nothing technical about this, it was something unique and that is hard to come by these days in pro wrestling. Some will love it while others call it the worst thing ever. In reality, it is both and neither at the same time

On the road to WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2020, the final stop was the December 18 edition of Friday Night SmackDown. This show, airing for the rare time on FS1, promised an impressive event ahead of the last big pay-per-view of the WWE year.

The Street Profits have been unstoppable as tag team champions, holding the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championship combined for 289 days as of this SmackDown. Dolph Zigler and Robert Roode had plans to finally unseat Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford.

Bianca Belair has been a thorn in Bayley's side since WWE Survivor Series. The Role Model had a plan to teach a lesson to The EST in a battle of the present and future of the women's division.

Carmella announced she would hold a Champagne Toast ahead of her match with Sasha Banks at WWE TLC, basking in the certainty she would walk out as the new SmackDown women's champion.

After feeling slighted by the "biased" Slammy Awards, Sami Zayn decided it was time to create his own annual award show: the Sami Awards. He presented his year-end successes for the world.

This show had so much going for it, and it was all up to WWE to let the talent shine through on the go-home show for TLC.

Kevin Owens Calls Out Roman Reigns

1 OF 8

Kevin Owens called out Roman Reigns. He demanded that they fight right away. He explained that he told his family not to watch what he did to The Tribal Chief on Sunday. He called Reigns a hypocrite and a poor example to his children.

Paul Heyman appeared on the titantron, labeling Owens a masochist for putting himself in Reigns' line of sight after the beatdown he faced last week. KO stopped listening. He headed to the back to find The Tribal Chief.

Adam Pearce talked down Owens, telling him to wait for Sunday. Reigns headed to the ring as Owens walked by a monitor backstage. Reigns demanded KO acknowledge him and apologize. KO marched down to the ring before Jey Uso attacked him from behind. Officials saved Owens from further harm.

Uso was sure the message had been sent backstage. The Tribal Chief told Jey to end this for good. Reigns' cousin attacked KO with a steel chair as he was headed to the trainer's room. In the trainer's room, Uso sent Owens through a table, demanding he stay down.

    Analysis

The promos in this rivalry have been excellent, but this might have been the best work yet. KO's calm, dangerous tone translated so well. Even if it is hard to imagine him beating The Tribal Chief, he is clearly willing to take this fight to a level he has rarely gone.

From the family drama to the frequent mind games, this rivalry has slowly but surely risen to similar heights as Reigns' battles with Uso. It has been wonderful to watch Owens regain his fire while finding a different but still memorable chemistry with The Tribal Chief.

This was the only sell for WWE TLC SmackDown needed. The stage is set for a motivated Owens to do anything to overcome the odds and truly overcome Reigns.

SmackDown Tag Champions Street Profits (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode

2 OF 8

Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode took over this match early by throwing Montez Ford into the steel barricade. Angelo Dawkins made the save, showing off his power. A Famouser from The Showoff almost took the surprise nearfall.

Dawkins blocked a superkick and planted Ziggler with the Anointment. He gave Ford the tag for From the Heavens, but it took too long for him to cover. The Glorious One got the tag, only to get caught by Ford with a handful of tights for three.

Afterward, Ziggler and Roode berated the referee Charles Robinson for failing to see the cheap tactic. He threatened to suspend them both.

    Result

Profits def. Roode and Ziggler by pinfall to retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

    Grade

    B-

    Analysis

This was consistent solid wrestling, but the contest felt too similar to past matches between these teams. The talent in this match is too good to be going through the same motions each time. These teams have a great one in them, but it will take some fresh ideas.

Given Ziggler and Roode lost again, this feud should not last too much longer. However, the cheap victory should give them one more shot. Hopefully, that will be the moment the teams bring their absolute best.

The Riott Squad vs. Billie Kay and Tamina

3 OF 8

The Riott Squad speculated over who Billie Kay would choose as her tag team partner. It turned out to be Tamina. While Kay and Tamina had an early edge by targeting Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan got the tag and went off with a fiery comeback.

Riott and Morgan dropkicked Tamina out of the ring then hit an assisted flatliner on Kay to pick up another victory as a team.

    Result

Riott Squad def. Kay and Tamina by pinfall.

    Grade

    D

    Analysis

This did not work at all. The match was over quickly, and nothing in the action added anything to the show. The Riott Squad can be a solid presence in the tag team division, but the duo needs a worthy rivalry rather than comedy matches with the former IIconic member.

It made no sense to break up Peyton Royce and Kay. Both have suffered since. Neither can get TV time, and when they do, they lose in tag team matches.

Carmella Taunted Sasha Banks in Her Champagne Toast

4 OF 8

Carmella taunted Sasha Banks immediately as she sipped champagne. She called The Legit Boss sad and desperate. She explained that Banks was vulnerable because she had no idea how to hold onto the SmackDown Women's Championship.

This set off Banks, who headed to the ring. She threw champagne into the face of her challenger. With the help of her sommelier, Carmella took control of the situation and broke another champagne bottle on The Boss' back.

    Grade

    B+

    Analysis

This feud has been carried by the confidence of Carmella. The Boss was coming off a huge rivalry with Bayley, so her next challenger was likely to always feel like filler. Instead, The Untouchable has elevated this rivalry, making herself out to be Banks' one weakness.

Her promo was fantastic and nuanced, selling the flaws she saw in the champion's game. She got him some great digs before The Boss' music hit. In the end, she stood tall once more, selling casual fans on the likelihood of her dethroning the SmackDown women's champion.

Otis (w/ Chad Gable) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (w/ Cesaro)

5 OF 8

Otis made his coach Chad Gable proud early, escaping Shinsuke Nakamura's grip and throwing The Artist around. However, Gable had to stop Otis from hitting the Caterpillar late. This almost got Otis rolled up, but he kicked out. Otis hit a leg-trap suplex then a Vader bomb to win.

Gable told Otis to remember his training in The Alpha Academy, reminding Otis that he should have hit the Caterpillar despite his insistence not to. He needed to do what Gable meant not what he said.

    Result

    Otis def. Nakamura by pinfall.

    Grade

    D+

    Analysis

Otis and Nakamura have a fine sprint, but it should have been so much more. Both men can go longer and do more. The Artist felt so wasted in this spot. Anyone could have been wrestling Otis in this match, and many would have lost far less in this squash.

Gable teaching Otis while possibly holding him back is an odd story, and the don't-listen-to-me coaching makes no sense. This dynamic can work. It just has not worked yet.

Big E Ruins the First Annual Sami Awards

6 OF 8

Sami Zayn yelled at a worker backstage that failed to polish his trophies, leaving to find the polish. Big E gleefully looked over the trophies and cue cards.

The Master Strategist walked out as the host of the Sami Awards. He announced that he had won both Comeback of the Year as well as Match of the Year for his win over AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy at WWE Clash of Champions.

However, he found his cards had been switched out for Superstar of the Year. He announced that Big E was Superstar of the Year. Big E gave a big thank-you speech until Zayn pushed him. The two brawled, and Big E took down Zayn.

    Grade

    B+

    Analysis

This was silly, but it absolutely worked. Zayn can sell anything on the mic right now. He carried this segment right up to the arrival of Big E. The ridiculous arrival of a thankful Big E was the icing on the cake.

While Zayn snuck away with a win recently over Big E, this rivalry has only gotten better. While Big E might not be Superstar of the Year for 2020, he could be for 2021. He just needs to get that first big title win. He and Zayn would be a great addition to WWE TLC 2020.

Bianca Belair vs. Bayley

7 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

Bianca Belair and Bayley were interviewed ahead of their match. Belair refused to consider Bayley a role model while Bayley called Belair arrogant for parading around her athleticism like a championship.

Early, The Role Model struggled against The EST's strength until she slammed Belair's arm onto the apron before throwing her into the barricade. Belair fought back and caught The Role Model taunting, planting her with a suplex then a spinebuster.

A series of counter pinfall attempts nearly got both women in trouble, but The Role Model found an opportunity to rake the eyes of The EST. This set up the Rose Plant for the victory.

    Result

    Bayley def. Belair by pinfall.

    Grade

    B

    Analysis

This was a fantastic spot for Belair, and she delivered. This was a good main event where the two women clicked from the outset. A few late awkward spots kept this from truly shining, but the first outing hinted that Bayley and Belair have a potential classic in them.

While it extends the feud, booking Belair to lose at this time made no sense. Bayley had lost matches for months on end, and The EST was undefeated in singles action on SmackDown. It is typical WWE to go with the easy 50-50 booking rather than the best option for the story.

Kevin Owens Limped into the Fight with Roman Reigns

8 OF 8

After Jey Uso had continued to beat down Kevin Owens backstage, Roman Reigns walked to the ring to end the night with a smile. He questioned Paul Heyman on why anyone would waste an opportunity to fight him for the WWE Universal Championship.

KO limped to the ring, and he faced a two-on-one beatdown. Reigns blasted him with a steel chair and threw him through multiple tables. Reigns and Uso buried Owens under tables and ladders then The Tribal Chief continued to blast him with chair shots.

Kayla Braxton tried to question Reigns as he walked backstage, but Owens got up. He grabbed a microphone and told The Tribal Chief he would win the WWE Championship or die trying.

    Grade

    C+

    Analysis

This was an unnecessary use of the remaining time on SmackDown. It would have been more impactful for KO to limp out on Sunday after the beating he took. This was overkill, and despite Adam Pearce supposedly wanting to protecting his main event, no one came to save the day.

The idea is that Owens is resilient beyond measure due to all the horrible things Reigns has said to his family. However, this now sets the stage for a match at TLC where Owens has to work the entire time hurt yet stay in the fight the whole time with Uso involved.

The odds are stacked so high that it just feels too incredulous to believe that KO has any chance. This is wrestling, but the overwhelming singular booking for KO is trying too hard.
