WWE Raw Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from July 11

Wrestling Reality Team!

Welcome to Wrestling Reality's coverage and recap of WWE Raw on July 11.

With Money in the Bank more than a week in the past, WWE is officially focused on setting up the next big event, which will be SummerSlam on July 30.

We already know the Undisputed WWE Championship will be on the line between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, and The Beast appeared this week to help hype the match.

Bobby Lashley will also defend the U.S. title against Theory, while The Usos defend the Undisputed Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits. Both feuds and much more were addressed on Monday's show.

Let's take a look at what happened on this week's episode of WWE Raw.

Opening Segment and Rey Mysterio vs. Finn Balor

1 OF 6

Raw opened with Lesnar coming out to a warm welcome. He thanked the crowd before talking about his upcoming match against Roman Reigns. It only took a couple of minutes before Paul Heyman interrupted.

This turned into a long exchange of lines and insults before Theory made an appearance. He taunted The Beast before Otis and Chad Gable came out to try to attack him for some reason. It ended with Lesnar putting Otis through the announce table with an F-5.

This probably went on a bit longer than it needed to, but seeing Lesnar pick up Otis like he weighed as much as Gable was a fun moment. Everything else was kind of paint-by-numbers.

    Grade: C+

The first match of the night saw Rey Mysterio take on Judgment Day's Finn Balor. This was a rematch after Rey scored a disqualification win last week using Eddie Guerrero's signature chair trick.

Damian Priest gave a promo before the match trying to recruit Dominik, but the younger Mysterio did not look interested. We went to a break with Rey and Dom sending Priest and Balor out of the ring.

The match was already taking place when we returned, so the live crowd got a few more minutes of action than those watching at home. As expected, Rey and Balor had an entertaining exchange, but there were times when it felt like they slowed down more than needed.

The Prince scored a relatively clean and decisive win over Rey with the Coup de Grace.

    Winner: Finn Balor

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • With Edge gone from the group and Rhea Ripley out with an injury, Judgment Day lost a lot of steam quickly.
    • Priest mocking Rey for using somebody else's tricks is kind of funny when you consider that everyone is just using somebody else's stuff at this point. Coming up with a move that has never been done is nearly impossible now.
    • The way Balor tripped Rey on the top turnbuckle looked brutal. Rey crashed to the mat hard but in a way that looked like he was still in control of the impact.
    • It's always surprising when Rey doesn't get more air on his frog splashes.

Bianca Belair vs. Carmella (Raw Women's Championship)

2 OF 6

Before the match between Bianca Belair and Carmella took place, Becky Lynch made her way out to spectate from ringside and demand a shot at the winner of this bout at SummerSlam.

Belair picked Mella up and put her in the corner right away to establish her dominance. She slammed The Princess of Staten Island's head into the announce table right in front of Lynch as the show went to a break.

The match progressed as you would expect. Mella would get in a bit of offense, and then Belair would make a comeback and establish her physical superiority again.

There were one or two awkward moments, but this match ended up being solid for the most part. It wasn't a pay-per-view-level bout, but it was a good TV match that allowed both women to show off their strengths.

A distraction from Big Time Becks ended up leading to Belair being counted out, which means she lost the match but not the title. The EST ended by hitting Mella with the K.O.D. to pop the crowd.

    Winner: Carmella

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Belair has the kind of energy that can wake a crowd up. It's infectious.
    • Mella is actually quite good at several things, but the stuff she isn't good at stands out and makes people judge her unfairly. She is more talented than many are willing to admit.
    • The counter Carmella used for the K.O.D. was great.

The Miz and Ciampa vs. AJ Styles and Ezekiel

3 OF 6

The Miz had Ciampa as his guest for "Miz TV" this week, but he barely let Ciampa say two words. The A-Lister spent most of his time talking about Logan Paul before AJ Styles came out to send both men retreating from the ring.

Ezekiel came out and ended up becoming Styles' partner for a tag team match. We returned from a break to see Zeke and Ciampa already fighting. The former NXT champion brought The Miz in, but Ezekiel maintained control so he could tag Styles.

The heels dominated a large portion of the action until The Phenomenal One tagged in and went on a rampage. The match ended with a DQ after Ciampa refused to stop attacking Styles while The Miz was the legal competitor.

This was a relatively simple match. Everyone looked good, but there was nothing memorable about it. The DQ finish right after a count-out is going to rub some people the wrong way.

Winners: Styles and Zeke by DQ

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Zeke has had the same gear since he debuted. He hasn't had a single color variation or design change.
    • Ciampa has a way of hitting a running knee and making it look absolutely brutal without actually hurting his opponent. It's impressive.
    • How does Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm perfectly every time? It shouldn't be statistically possible to be that good.

Alexa Bliss and Asuka vs. Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H.

4 OF 6

We saw a tag team match in the women's division this week when Asuka teamed up with Alexa Bliss to take on Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H.

After an initial burst of offense from The Empress, Nikki and Doudrop were able to take control of Bliss and keep her isolated.

Once Asuka tagged back in, she regained the upper hand. The Goddess came in and hit a DDT on her former tag team partner for the win.

This match was short and simple. Nothing looked bad, but it didn't give us a lot to sink our teeth into either.

    Winners: Asuka and Alexa Bliss

    Grade: C

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Nikki trying to do a chest bump with Doudrop and bouncing right off her was pretty funny.
    • Asuka and Nikki had some fun matches in NXT. Their little exchange at the start of this match almost felt like them referencing their old feud in a small way.

The Usos and Omos vs. Truth and the Profits

5 OF 6

WWE continued with the singles matches between The Usos and Street Profits this week when Angelo Dawkins took on Jimmy Uso. As usual, Montez Ford and Jey were at ringside.

R-Truth ended up coming out to offer his services as both a tag team counselor and a potential referee for their SummerSlam tag title bout. The Usos threatened Truth, but MVP and Omos came down before anything could happen. Omos and The Usos attacked Truth and the Profits before the break to set up a six-man tag match.

This bout had the usual kind of action you would expect from these six men. The Usos and Profits carried most of the match, Truth would occasionally contribute, and Omos would hit a few power moves when he was legal. It had some good spots, but the match was a little disorganized.

Omos ended up getting the win for his team by pinning Dawkins, which means he might end up being the special guest ref at SummerSlam as MVP had suggested.

    Winner: Omos and The Usos

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • The Usos are great on the mic, but they do not need to give a promo on every show. It's starting to feel too repetitive.
    • Truth used to be the funniest part of WWE programming every single week, but the way he has been used for the past year or two has been a little sad.
    • Omos catching Truth when he tried to slingshot himself over the top rope looked decent.
    • Truth being driven into the steps by Omos looked good. The camera angle helped mask how Truth protected himself.

Seth Rollins and Theory vs. Bobby Lashley and Riddle

6 OF 6

The main event of the night saw Theory team up with Seth Rollins to take on Riddle and Bobby Lashley in a tag team match.

Theory took control of Riddle almost immediately with a series of hard left hands. It took tagging in Lashley for the babyfaces to take over for a bit. Dolph Ziggler's music hit and he walked to the ring wearing a suit and tie as the show went to a break.

The Showoff watched from ringside as the match progressed. The Visionary and Mr. MITB kept RIddle isolated as long as they could, but he eventually made the hot tag to The All Mighty.

The physical ability of the four men in this bout was never in question. This match had plenty about it to enjoy, After Ziggler prevented Theory from cheating, Riddle hit the RKO for the win.

    Winners: Bobby Lashley and Riddle

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Theory winning a striking battle against a guy known for being a former MMA fighter was a weird way to start this match.
    • Ziggler got a nice reaction. He is still over but WWE needs to figure out what to do with him. He is used too inconsistently, especially in 2022.
    • The spot where somebody gets Speared through a barricade might be used a little too often. It feels like we see it a few times every month.
    • Babyface Ziggler is going to be so over with the crowd again. This should be fun.

Tiger Zinda Hai Full Movie
(Wrestling Reality Team)

Tiger is on the prowl again. He is still a super adroit, unstoppable livewire. So what if he is borderline brain-dead? Given the cloak of invincibility he dons, he is in no danger whatsoever of going extinct. What goes missing without a trace in Tiger Zinda Hai, however, is logic. But what's that? The film is targeted at fans of Salman Khan. It's all strut and swagger, primed to give the constituency that the star serves more than its money's worth. He even sheds his shirt in one sequence.

As for the rest of us, ordinary mortals who usually seek cinematic stimuli less extraordinary, Tiger Zinda Hai, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is a spy thriller that could have done with more sense and subtlety. But these attributes appear to be the last thing on the mind of the invincible, chest-thumping, Rambo-esque RAW agent-protagonist and his mates as they, teaming up with ISI operatives (yes, that's how woolly-headed it gets), take on their deadly common foes for the sake of aman (peace) and insaniyat (humanity).

tiger zinda hai instagram

We hear the film's title being uttered by one character or other on four separate occasions. On the first occasion it's a question, on the second a firm assertion, and on the third it exudes assurance. The final 'Tiger zinda hai', reserved for the final scene, is a pointer to the possibility that we haven't heard the last of the insuperable secret agent. Sounds a bit like a threat all right, but if TZH roars loud enough at the box-office, we've got to live with it.

Filmed predominantly in Abu Dhabi, which passes off for war-ravaged Iraq, TZH is strictly mechanical, by-the-numbers filmmaking that throws at the audience random allusions to contemporary geopolitics but makes it a point to disown any connection with reality. The film, as a pre-credits rider avows, is inspired by a true event, but all 'places and names' in the story are fictitious. We would have known anyways.

Tikrit becomes Ikrit and ISIS is rechristened ISC. But Mosul remains Mosul. There is also talk of a Caliphate. It is lorded over by a dreaded terrorist named Abu Usman. Fighting a last-ditch battle to save his turf from American drones and warplanes and the Iraqi army, he unleashes mayhem in the desert.

The hyper-virile, stone-faced persona of Avinash Singh Rathore 'Tiger', which is stretched much further than it was in 2012's Ek Tha Tiger, strays dangerously close to snapping point. The spy walks in and out of raging fires with the nonchalance of a boy swatting flies.

He has the blanket license to be part of improbable action sequences in which oil tankers turn into balls of fire, vehicles fly and do somersaults before exploding, and bullets are sprayed from all manner of weapons without let. Our man Tiger emerges from it all, time and again, not only in one piece but also without as much as a hair out of place.

tiger zinda hai instgram

That his survival instincts and combat skills haven't lost their edge is established right at the outset. Tiger, out camping in the Alps with his son, encounters a pack of wolves. He keeps his wits about him and shakes the predators off his back. No big deal - it's all in a day's work for him. The attack of the wolves prepares him for much worse.

When a group of Indian and Pakistani nurses - 40 of them - are taken hostage by religious extremists in Iraq - this part of the plot is yanked from newspaper headlines - a resting Tiger is nudged out of his cozy sinecure in Austria, where he now lives with his wife of eight years Zoya (Katrina Kaif), the selfsame Pakistani spy who fell in love with him in the precursor.

Summoned by the Indian spy agency chief (Girish Karnad), Tiger and Zoya plunge into the mission aimed at taking out the terrorists and saving the nurses. The hero handpicks his comrades-in-arms - ageing tech whiz Rakesh (Kumud Mishra, who provides the lighter moments), explosives expert Namit (Angad Bedi, who has just enough to do not be lost in the din) and sharpshooter Azaan (Paresh Pahuja), the token Muslim patriot who carries the tricolour in his backpack and has to do more than the others to demonstrate his love for the nation.

Inspired by an incident that is also at the heart of the Malayalam smash hit Take OffTiger Zinda Hai goes haywire in pursuit of its outmoded notions of masculinity and heroism. The film robs the trapped women of any kind of agency. The only nurse allowed a voice and some space is Poorna (Anupriya Goenka, the sole female actor in the film who actually 'acts').

TZH has another bunch of cornered women - captives who work for the terrorists under duress. Zoya, who is instrumental in roping two ISI agents into the Indo-Pak rescue mission, turns the heat on the captors and liberates these girls single-handedly. Her entry scene, too, has the lady knock out a trio of muggers who raid a convenience store and live to regret the decision. End of story for Zoya. She, too, needs her hubby to rescue her from trouble in the film's climax.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves. TZH simply isn't interested in achieving any balance. The emphasis is unwaveringly on Salman Khan the Saviour. Katrina, fetching but flimsy, is compelled to take a backseat. Mercifully, the principal antagonist Abu Usman, played by Iran-born, UAE-raised Sajjad Delafrooz, is no pushover: he makes his presence felt in no uncertain terms.

Undeniably impressive in terms of its scale and flawless technical attributes - the production design is fabulous, the action sequences are spectacular and the camerawork by Polish cinematographer Marcin Laskawiec is dazzlingly good - Tiger Zinda Hai is an exercise that eventually rings utterly hollow.

WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from July 8

Wrestling Reality Team!

    Jason Mendez/WireImage

The Tribal Chief returned to SmackDown on Fox as the Undisputed WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns made his first appearance since defeating Riddle to retain his title a month earlier.

On the same night that Drew McIntyre and Sheamus battled for the right to challenge for the top prize in all of WWE at Clash at the Castle on September 3, what did The Head of the Table have in store for the brand he has championed since August 2020?

Find out now with this recap of a show that also featured Liv Morgan's first appearance as new SmackDown Women's champion.

Match Card

1 OF 9
    • Roman Reigns' SmackDown Return
    • Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus for a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle
    • Maximum Male Models unveil their 2022 Tennis Collection
    • Appearance from SmackDown Women's champion Liv Morgan

The Bloodline Kicked Off SmackDown

2 OF 9

Undisputed WWE Universal champion Roman Reigns returned to SmackDown Friday night, the recipient of a massive ovation from fans as he was flanked by Undisputed WWE Tag Team champions The Usos, but it was his special counsel Paul Heyman who stole the show.

Heyman went on a red-faced rant about the danger Brock Lesnar poses on July 30 at SummerSlam when he challenges The Tribal Chief in a Last Man Standing match, recalling all of The Beast's accomplishments along the way.

He admitted his fear was not over the damage Lesnar can do in the match, but the fact that Reigns will have to "go savage" to keep the challenger down for a 10 count.

Theory, who made his presence felt earlier, once again arrived and teased the idea that he will cash in Money in the Bank on Reigns at any given moment. He did not, at this time, though.

It is always nice to see Reigns back, and the charismatic, feel-good approach to his promo was the perfect antithesis of Heyman's approach. He appeared unfazed by the idea of Lesnar beating him and even joked that he was not going through the whole "where do Heyman's allegiances lie" thing again.

It was a great dichotomy before Heyman ended his anxiety-filled promo by warning Reigns that he will have to go to levels he has not in a long time to retain his title. Great stuff from two virtuoso performers who bring a certain gravity to the show that others simply do not.

    Grade

    A+

    Top Moments

    • In a hell of a tease heading into the night's first break, Theory appeared at the entranceway, staring down Reigns as he basked in the roar of the WWE Universe.
    • "We been through this before. I know we ain't going back there," Reigns said to Heyman, referencing the special counsel's wavering between him and Lesnar from earlier this year.
    • "Brock Lesnar has one last chance," Heyman said, attempting to hammer home the idea that SummerSlam is the last time he will battle Reigns. It is an idea no one actually believes."

The New and Vicious Viking Raiders vs. Shanky and Jinder Mahal

3 OF 9

The New and Vicious Viking Raiders, trademarked by Michael Cole probably, made their first in-ring appearance since returning two weeks ago as they battled Shanky and Jinder Mahal.

It went about as well as one would expect, with the dancing big man leaving his partner high and dry as Erik and Ivar rolled to a squash match victory.

After the match, New Day entered the arena and Xavier Woods offered up ass-kicking tickets for the dominant heels. They, too, suffered as the Raiders left him and Kofi Kingston lying in a heap to conclude the segment.

At least the writers are trying with the Raiders. That is not the case with talent elsewhere on the roster.

    Result

The Viking Raiders defeated Mahal and Shanky

    Grade

    C

    Top Moments

    • The ass-kicking tickets were funny, I guess.
    • A video package recapping Happy Corbin's post-Money in the Bank beatdown of Pat McAfee gave way to the former King of the RIng joining Corey Graves and Michael Cole at ringside.

Gunther's Open Challenge Leads to Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Ludwig Kaiser

4 OF 9

Intercontinental champion Gunther teased an open challenge for his title before revealing that any prospective challenger must first earn such an opportunity. This brought out Shinsuke Nakamura, who accepted and a match with the Austrian's right-hand man, Ludwig Kaiser, was underway.

Nakamura defeated Kaiser with Kinshasa, setting up a dream match of sorts between two of the greatest NXT stars in that brand's history.

The bigger takeaway, though, was not The Artist's victory but, rather, the post-match confrontation with Kaiser. The brutal trio of chops he unleashed on his spokesman seemingly planted the seeds of two different elements of their relationship. First, Gunther does not accept failure.

Second, it is only a matter of time before Kaiser eventually stands up for himself.

Hopefully, WWE is playing the long game there because that is a story fans can absolutely get behind. It is one that could elevate Kaiser to stardom and set up an eventual showdown between the champion and his closest confidant.

It is just as likely that WWE Creative uses this newly introduced element to put over the ruthlessness of Gunther and that, too, could work. It just seems like, eventually, Kaiser will become a sympathetic figure and potentially set up the most unexpectedly hot program on the brand.

Oh, and Nakamura vs. Gunther is going to be all kinds of awesome when it finally happens.

    Result

    Nakamura defeated Kaiser

    Grade

    C+

    Top Moments

    • Corbin popping, then rocking out on the air guitar while mocking Pat McAfee's love for Nakamura, was great television and popped this writer.
    • Cole attempted to knock Corbin's NFL career during his stint with the Indianapolis Colts, only to be shut down by Happy, who reminded him of his offensive line career with the Arizona Cardinals.
    • Gunther berated Kaiser after the match, then chopped him repeatedly, punishment for his defeat.

Ronda Rousey, Natalya Interrupt Liv Morgan; Money in the Bank Rematch

5 OF 9

New SmackDown Women's champion Liv Morgan addressed the WWE Universe in an in-ring promo hosted by Michael Cole that was interrupted by Natalya, who took exception to the babyface's success.

Former champion Ronda Rousey joined the fray and issued a challenge to The Queen of Harts for a rematch tonight.

After a brief commercial break, Rousey wasted little time putting Natalya away, trapping her in an ankle lock and forcing a tapout.

The Morgan promo was another feel-good moment for the young star this week, even if it is obvious that she needs more reps on the mic before she can be relied upon to carry talky segments.

The "match" between Rousey and Natalya was hardly one; little more than an excuse to get them on TV and Rousey a win back after her defeat Sunday on Peacock. Her dominance here was a message loud and clear to Morgan, despite still carrying herself very much as a babyface.

Rousey vs. Morgan will take place at SummerSlam and as surreal as that match would have been two weeks ago, it is evidence of WWE's trust in the latter in that spot.

It will be up to her to back that trust up with one of the best performances of her career.

    Result

    Rousey defeated Natalya

    Grade

    C+

    Top Moments

    • The crowd's chants of "you deserve it" had Morgan noticeably emotional.
    • Cole will not get the credit he deserves for guiding the still relatively inexperienced Morgan on the mic. He was a total pro, keeping her on task and making sure things went according to plan while she continues to find her footing and build confidence consistently as a talker.
    • Rousey said, "you want me to beat the credit out of Natalya...or some other 'cr' word," as her promos get somehow worse with every passing week.

Maximum Male Models' 2022 Tennis Collection

6 OF 9

    Sigh.

Max Dupri returned Friday night to introduce the world to his Maximum Male Models' 2022 Tennis Collection. Mace and Mansoor modeled the athletic wear while Dupri narrated in what someone backstage probably thought was the most hysterically hilarious segment in the history of professional wrestling.

For everyone else, the segment landed with a thud.

It was neither as humorous as last week, nor as warmly received as the fans in Fort Worth, Texas reacted with chants of, "boring." Those chants were ultimately dubbed over with canned boos as Dupri announced open applications to be the latest Maximum Male Model.

    Grade

    D

    Top Moments

    • Um, Graves called Cole out for an untimely tennis reference. That was...something.

Lacey Evans Demands Respect

7 OF 9

Lacey Evans finally unleashed weeks of frustration, launching into a disgusted, angry promo on the fans in Fort Worth. She took exception to the boos that accompanied her entrance and told the fans to go to hell.

The scheduled match, in which she was slated to team with Aliyah, never occurred as the Marine veteran flattened the babyface with the Women's Right.

Evans came across so much more naturally as a heel than she did as a babyface. Taking exception to the idea that the fans did not appreciate the struggles she endured or the journey to the top that she has taken, she denounced and insulted them, and generated some quality heat while doing so.

Is this a character that has long-term potential? Probably not, but within it, she may very well find the edge that she has been missing over the course of her career. It may not happen quite as everyone involved expected, but this may very well have been the start of the most fruitful part of Evans' career.

    Grade

    C+

    Top Moments

    • Evans entered the arena three times in a row, unsatisfied by the reaction, the jeers growing louder with each try at cheers.

The Usos vs. Los Lotharios

8 OF 9

The Usos vs. The Street Profits, this was not.

Jimmy and Jey Uso squashed Los Lotharios in a brief, action-packed match that started during the commercial break, indicating just how seriously WWE Creative wanted you to take Angel and Humberto.

After the match, Kayla Braxton stirred the pot, claiming some say The Usos got away with one at Money in the Bank by winning the match against the aforementioned Profits despite Montez Ford's shoulder being up during the pin-fall. She also claimed the match will have a special guest referee.

Unfazed, The Usos spouted their "we the ones" catchphrase and Drew McIntyre entered the arena for the main event.

This really did not need to happen. This easily could have been saved for a backstage interview spot that accomplished everything this did, without risking whatever credibility Los Lotharios had left in the process.

We get it: The Usos are the best tag team in WWE. They have a match with The Street Profits upcoming at SummerSlam. Throw in the referee tidbit in a pre-taped promo and you have literally the same thing that we got here, without Angel and Humberto needlessly jobbing out in two minutes.

    Result

    The Usos defeated Los Lotharios

    Grade

    C-

    Top Moments

    • Braxton as the (insert poop emoji) stirrer in relation to The Bloodline is one of those low-key great characters. She always seems to have bad news or speculation regarding Roman Reigns and The Usos, and startles the hell out of Paul Heyman at just the right moment. It's a great, consistent bit and one that has allowed the excellent on-screen personality to gain some spotlight.

Drew McIntyre vs. Definitely Not Sheamus

9 OF 9

Despite advertising Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre to determine who will challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales on September 3, SmackDown pulled the old bait-and-switch, booking a ridiculous angle at the end of the show to prevent producing said bout.

Sheamus, fighting a "tickle" in the throat, claimed to possibly have COVID-19 and stated the need to be tested. As a result, Butch would be replacing him.

McIntyre squashed the artist formerly known as Pete Dunne, finishing him off with the Claymore before using his sword, Angela, to cut the top rope in a spot that would have meant more if it had not been done as recently as WrestleMania 38.

First, in what realm are we supposed to believe Sheamus could go through the entire day potentially having COVID and be allowed to go to the ring before coughing all over the microphone and those around him?

Assuming they expect fans to know it is a facade and that this was the first time the cowardly heel had any symptoms and was merely trying to get out of the match, it is still as ridiculous and unsatisfying a way possible to get out of a match that had been advertised all day.

Book and injury angle. Have Sheamus working out backstage only to pull his back or strain a quad. Something that hits harder than, and does not make light of, a worldwide pandemic.

As for McIntyre chopping the rope in half, it has been done before, and even then, was not all that impressive. What was, though, was the pyro that exploded from the ring post as McIntyre has apparently adopted the supernatural powers of everyone's favorite demon, Kane.

None of this was good and single-handedly managed to cool off what could, and should, have been a great main event to close out a show that underwhelmed significantly the moment Roman Reigns and Paul Heyman exited the ring.

    Result

    McIntyre defeated Butch

    Grade

    D
