WWE Raw Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from July 11

Wrestling Reality Team!

Welcome to Wrestling Reality's coverage and recap of WWE Raw on July 11.

With Money in the Bank more than a week in the past, WWE is officially focused on setting up the next big event, which will be SummerSlam on July 30.

We already know the Undisputed WWE Championship will be on the line between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar, and The Beast appeared this week to help hype the match.

Bobby Lashley will also defend the U.S. title against Theory, while The Usos defend the Undisputed Tag Team Championships against The Street Profits. Both feuds and much more were addressed on Monday's show.

Let's take a look at what happened on this week's episode of WWE Raw.

Opening Segment and Rey Mysterio vs. Finn Balor

1 OF 6

Raw opened with Lesnar coming out to a warm welcome. He thanked the crowd before talking about his upcoming match against Roman Reigns. It only took a couple of minutes before Paul Heyman interrupted.

This turned into a long exchange of lines and insults before Theory made an appearance. He taunted The Beast before Otis and Chad Gable came out to try to attack him for some reason. It ended with Lesnar putting Otis through the announce table with an F-5.

This probably went on a bit longer than it needed to, but seeing Lesnar pick up Otis like he weighed as much as Gable was a fun moment. Everything else was kind of paint-by-numbers.

    Grade: C+

The first match of the night saw Rey Mysterio take on Judgment Day's Finn Balor. This was a rematch after Rey scored a disqualification win last week using Eddie Guerrero's signature chair trick.

Damian Priest gave a promo before the match trying to recruit Dominik, but the younger Mysterio did not look interested. We went to a break with Rey and Dom sending Priest and Balor out of the ring.

The match was already taking place when we returned, so the live crowd got a few more minutes of action than those watching at home. As expected, Rey and Balor had an entertaining exchange, but there were times when it felt like they slowed down more than needed.

The Prince scored a relatively clean and decisive win over Rey with the Coup de Grace.

    Winner: Finn Balor

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • With Edge gone from the group and Rhea Ripley out with an injury, Judgment Day lost a lot of steam quickly.
    • Priest mocking Rey for using somebody else's tricks is kind of funny when you consider that everyone is just using somebody else's stuff at this point. Coming up with a move that has never been done is nearly impossible now.
    • The way Balor tripped Rey on the top turnbuckle looked brutal. Rey crashed to the mat hard but in a way that looked like he was still in control of the impact.
    • It's always surprising when Rey doesn't get more air on his frog splashes.

Bianca Belair vs. Carmella (Raw Women's Championship)

2 OF 6

Before the match between Bianca Belair and Carmella took place, Becky Lynch made her way out to spectate from ringside and demand a shot at the winner of this bout at SummerSlam.

Belair picked Mella up and put her in the corner right away to establish her dominance. She slammed The Princess of Staten Island's head into the announce table right in front of Lynch as the show went to a break.

The match progressed as you would expect. Mella would get in a bit of offense, and then Belair would make a comeback and establish her physical superiority again.

There were one or two awkward moments, but this match ended up being solid for the most part. It wasn't a pay-per-view-level bout, but it was a good TV match that allowed both women to show off their strengths.

A distraction from Big Time Becks ended up leading to Belair being counted out, which means she lost the match but not the title. The EST ended by hitting Mella with the K.O.D. to pop the crowd.

    Winner: Carmella

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Belair has the kind of energy that can wake a crowd up. It's infectious.
    • Mella is actually quite good at several things, but the stuff she isn't good at stands out and makes people judge her unfairly. She is more talented than many are willing to admit.
    • The counter Carmella used for the K.O.D. was great.

The Miz and Ciampa vs. AJ Styles and Ezekiel

3 OF 6

The Miz had Ciampa as his guest for "Miz TV" this week, but he barely let Ciampa say two words. The A-Lister spent most of his time talking about Logan Paul before AJ Styles came out to send both men retreating from the ring.

Ezekiel came out and ended up becoming Styles' partner for a tag team match. We returned from a break to see Zeke and Ciampa already fighting. The former NXT champion brought The Miz in, but Ezekiel maintained control so he could tag Styles.

The heels dominated a large portion of the action until The Phenomenal One tagged in and went on a rampage. The match ended with a DQ after Ciampa refused to stop attacking Styles while The Miz was the legal competitor.

This was a relatively simple match. Everyone looked good, but there was nothing memorable about it. The DQ finish right after a count-out is going to rub some people the wrong way.

Winners: Styles and Zeke by DQ

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Zeke has had the same gear since he debuted. He hasn't had a single color variation or design change.
    • Ciampa has a way of hitting a running knee and making it look absolutely brutal without actually hurting his opponent. It's impressive.
    • How does Styles hit the Phenomenal Forearm perfectly every time? It shouldn't be statistically possible to be that good.

Alexa Bliss and Asuka vs. Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H.

4 OF 6

We saw a tag team match in the women's division this week when Asuka teamed up with Alexa Bliss to take on Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H.

After an initial burst of offense from The Empress, Nikki and Doudrop were able to take control of Bliss and keep her isolated.

Once Asuka tagged back in, she regained the upper hand. The Goddess came in and hit a DDT on her former tag team partner for the win.

This match was short and simple. Nothing looked bad, but it didn't give us a lot to sink our teeth into either.

    Winners: Asuka and Alexa Bliss

    Grade: C

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Nikki trying to do a chest bump with Doudrop and bouncing right off her was pretty funny.
    • Asuka and Nikki had some fun matches in NXT. Their little exchange at the start of this match almost felt like them referencing their old feud in a small way.

The Usos and Omos vs. Truth and the Profits

5 OF 6

WWE continued with the singles matches between The Usos and Street Profits this week when Angelo Dawkins took on Jimmy Uso. As usual, Montez Ford and Jey were at ringside.

R-Truth ended up coming out to offer his services as both a tag team counselor and a potential referee for their SummerSlam tag title bout. The Usos threatened Truth, but MVP and Omos came down before anything could happen. Omos and The Usos attacked Truth and the Profits before the break to set up a six-man tag match.

This bout had the usual kind of action you would expect from these six men. The Usos and Profits carried most of the match, Truth would occasionally contribute, and Omos would hit a few power moves when he was legal. It had some good spots, but the match was a little disorganized.

Omos ended up getting the win for his team by pinning Dawkins, which means he might end up being the special guest ref at SummerSlam as MVP had suggested.

    Winner: Omos and The Usos

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • The Usos are great on the mic, but they do not need to give a promo on every show. It's starting to feel too repetitive.
    • Truth used to be the funniest part of WWE programming every single week, but the way he has been used for the past year or two has been a little sad.
    • Omos catching Truth when he tried to slingshot himself over the top rope looked decent.
    • Truth being driven into the steps by Omos looked good. The camera angle helped mask how Truth protected himself.

Seth Rollins and Theory vs. Bobby Lashley and Riddle

6 OF 6

The main event of the night saw Theory team up with Seth Rollins to take on Riddle and Bobby Lashley in a tag team match.

Theory took control of Riddle almost immediately with a series of hard left hands. It took tagging in Lashley for the babyfaces to take over for a bit. Dolph Ziggler's music hit and he walked to the ring wearing a suit and tie as the show went to a break.

The Showoff watched from ringside as the match progressed. The Visionary and Mr. MITB kept RIddle isolated as long as they could, but he eventually made the hot tag to The All Mighty.

The physical ability of the four men in this bout was never in question. This match had plenty about it to enjoy, After Ziggler prevented Theory from cheating, Riddle hit the RKO for the win.

    Winners: Bobby Lashley and Riddle

    Grade: B

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Theory winning a striking battle against a guy known for being a former MMA fighter was a weird way to start this match.
    • Ziggler got a nice reaction. He is still over but WWE needs to figure out what to do with him. He is used too inconsistently, especially in 2022.
    • The spot where somebody gets Speared through a barricade might be used a little too often. It feels like we see it a few times every month.
    • Babyface Ziggler is going to be so over with the crowd again. This should be fun.

Tiger Zinda Hai Full Movie
(Wrestling Reality Team)

Tiger is on the prowl again. He is still a super adroit, unstoppable livewire. So what if he is borderline brain-dead? Given the cloak of invincibility he dons, he is in no danger whatsoever of going extinct. What goes missing without a trace in Tiger Zinda Hai, however, is logic. But what's that? The film is targeted at fans of Salman Khan. It's all strut and swagger, primed to give the constituency that the star serves more than its money's worth. He even sheds his shirt in one sequence.

As for the rest of us, ordinary mortals who usually seek cinematic stimuli less extraordinary, Tiger Zinda Hai, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is a spy thriller that could have done with more sense and subtlety. But these attributes appear to be the last thing on the mind of the invincible, chest-thumping, Rambo-esque RAW agent-protagonist and his mates as they, teaming up with ISI operatives (yes, that's how woolly-headed it gets), take on their deadly common foes for the sake of aman (peace) and insaniyat (humanity).

We hear the film's title being uttered by one character or other on four separate occasions. On the first occasion it's a question, on the second a firm assertion, and on the third it exudes assurance. The final 'Tiger zinda hai', reserved for the final scene, is a pointer to the possibility that we haven't heard the last of the insuperable secret agent. Sounds a bit like a threat all right, but if TZH roars loud enough at the box-office, we've got to live with it.

Filmed predominantly in Abu Dhabi, which passes off for war-ravaged Iraq, TZH is strictly mechanical, by-the-numbers filmmaking that throws at the audience random allusions to contemporary geopolitics but makes it a point to disown any connection with reality. The film, as a pre-credits rider avows, is inspired by a true event, but all 'places and names' in the story are fictitious. We would have known anyways.

Tikrit becomes Ikrit and ISIS is rechristened ISC. But Mosul remains Mosul. There is also talk of a Caliphate. It is lorded over by a dreaded terrorist named Abu Usman. Fighting a last-ditch battle to save his turf from American drones and warplanes and the Iraqi army, he unleashes mayhem in the desert.

The hyper-virile, stone-faced persona of Avinash Singh Rathore 'Tiger', which is stretched much further than it was in 2012's Ek Tha Tiger, strays dangerously close to snapping point. The spy walks in and out of raging fires with the nonchalance of a boy swatting flies.

He has the blanket license to be part of improbable action sequences in which oil tankers turn into balls of fire, vehicles fly and do somersaults before exploding, and bullets are sprayed from all manner of weapons without let. Our man Tiger emerges from it all, time and again, not only in one piece but also without as much as a hair out of place.

tiger zinda hai instgram

That his survival instincts and combat skills haven't lost their edge is established right at the outset. Tiger, out camping in the Alps with his son, encounters a pack of wolves. He keeps his wits about him and shakes the predators off his back. No big deal - it's all in a day's work for him. The attack of the wolves prepares him for much worse.

When a group of Indian and Pakistani nurses - 40 of them - are taken hostage by religious extremists in Iraq - this part of the plot is yanked from newspaper headlines - a resting Tiger is nudged out of his cozy sinecure in Austria, where he now lives with his wife of eight years Zoya (Katrina Kaif), the selfsame Pakistani spy who fell in love with him in the precursor.

Summoned by the Indian spy agency chief (Girish Karnad), Tiger and Zoya plunge into the mission aimed at taking out the terrorists and saving the nurses. The hero handpicks his comrades-in-arms - ageing tech whiz Rakesh (Kumud Mishra, who provides the lighter moments), explosives expert Namit (Angad Bedi, who has just enough to do not be lost in the din) and sharpshooter Azaan (Paresh Pahuja), the token Muslim patriot who carries the tricolour in his backpack and has to do more than the others to demonstrate his love for the nation.

Inspired by an incident that is also at the heart of the Malayalam smash hit Take OffTiger Zinda Hai goes haywire in pursuit of its outmoded notions of masculinity and heroism. The film robs the trapped women of any kind of agency. The only nurse allowed a voice and some space is Poorna (Anupriya Goenka, the sole female actor in the film who actually 'acts').

TZH has another bunch of cornered women - captives who work for the terrorists under duress. Zoya, who is instrumental in roping two ISI agents into the Indo-Pak rescue mission, turns the heat on the captors and liberates these girls single-handedly. Her entry scene, too, has the lady knock out a trio of muggers who raid a convenience store and live to regret the decision. End of story for Zoya. She, too, needs her hubby to rescue her from trouble in the film's climax.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves. TZH simply isn't interested in achieving any balance. The emphasis is unwaveringly on Salman Khan the Saviour. Katrina, fetching but flimsy, is compelled to take a backseat. Mercifully, the principal antagonist Abu Usman, played by Iran-born, UAE-raised Sajjad Delafrooz, is no pushover: he makes his presence felt in no uncertain terms.

Undeniably impressive in terms of its scale and flawless technical attributes - the production design is fabulous, the action sequences are spectacular and the camerawork by Polish cinematographer Marcin Laskawiec is dazzlingly good - Tiger Zinda Hai is an exercise that eventually rings utterly hollow.
