AEW Rampage Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from November 11

Sana Ejaz Khan

    Friday's Rampage lineup.
    AEW

Welcome to ProfessionalPK's coverage and recap of AEW Rampage on November 11.

Orange Cassidy continued to be the most active champion in All Elite Wrestling when he put the All-Atlantic Championship on the line against Lee Johnson.

Nyla Rose held an open challenge for the TBS Championship she liberated from Jade Cargill, and two bouts took place in the current world title eliminator tournament.

Brian Cage battled Dante Martin, and Rush took on Bandido. We also saw Jungle Boy confront Luchasaurus and Christian Cage to set up a possible final encounter in this feud.

Let's take a look at everything that went down during Friday's show.

Brian Cage vs. Dante Martin

1 OF 4

    Brian Cage and Dante Martin
    AEW

Instead of opening Rampage with a match like we are used to, AEW booked a confrontation between Jungle Boy and the duo of Christian and Luchasaurus to kick things off. They ended up agreeing to Jungle Boy vs. Luchasaurus in a cage at Full Gear before JB took a beating from his former tag team partner.

The first match of the night was a World Championship Eliminator Tournament bout between Cage and Martin. The high-flyer had control at first thanks to his speed, but one catch and slam on the floor put the former FTW champion in the driver's seat.

After a commercial break, Martin began to make a comeback. He hit some high spots and almost scored the win with a huge splash from the top rope, but the powerhouse was too much for him to handle.

The 21-year-old put on a valiant performance, but Cage was able to pick up the win to advance to the semifinals. This was a fun opening bout, but it left a lot of room for the rest of the card to outshine it.

    Winner: Brian Cage

    Grade: B-

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Christian has been great in this storyline, but his insults during this segment were much lower in quality than what he has said in recent months. It also felt unnecessary to mention Jungle Boy's dad again.
    • They mentioned that Martin has the second-most wins in AEW this year behind Moxley, but most of them are on Dark and Elevation because it feels like he has barely been on TV for the past several months.
    • Cage is perfect to pair with high-flyers because he is quick on his feet and can protect them in the big spots. The way he handled Martin in this bout helped make both men look good.
    • Watching Martin jump right to the top rope and then dive onto his opponents will never get old.

Bandido vs. Rush

2 OF 4

    Bandido and Rush.
    AEW

We got another quarterfinal match in the ongoing World Championship Eliminator Tournament when Rush took on Bandido, but El Toro Blanco did not wait for the bell.

Rush dove onto his opponent as he was making his entrance and beat him all around the ring, slamming him into the barricade a few times along the way.

The masked wrestler was still down when the ref called for the bell, so Rush was immediately dominating the action. He had the match well in hand until Bandido began to fight back during the break.

The masked man managed to get Rush up for an impressive military press slam, but it only scored him a two-count. Jose tried to rip off Bandido's mask until John Silver came down to take him out. This allowed Bandido to roll Rush up to score what some would call an upset victory.

While this match definitely had some sloppy moments, it was a fun sprint between two talented luchadors. If that is your kind of wrestling, you will like this bout. If not, you won't.

    Winner: Bandido

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • Does AEW exclusively use green extension cords? It feels like we have seen then a few times recently.
    • Rush teasing a running dropkick only to stop short and deliver an insulting kick to the face is a hilarious spot.
    • Rush's missile dropkick almost fell a bit short. He only connected with one leg.
    • The sequence of strikes they exchanged toward the end was a lot of fun.
    • Rush hit Bandido with the most protected piledriver ever. Bandido's head wasn't even between his legs. It was above them.

Nyla Rose vs. Kayla Sparks

3 OF 4

    Nyla Rose.
    AEW

The self-proclaimed TBS champion held an open challenge this week for the TBS Championship that was answered by Kayla Sparks. As usual, Marina Shafir and Vickie Guerrero were at ringside.

The usually brutal Rose was playing up her comedic side a lot more as she posed like Jade and even stole her finisher to pick up the win.

While this match was too short to be anything you will remember, It was a good indication that Rose will be able to keep showing off her personality moving forward.

Jade Cargill and The Baddies came out to attack the woman who stole the title, but they were unable to get the belt back before Rose, Shafir and Guerrero hid behind a wall of security guards.

    Winner: Nyla Rose

    Grade: D

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • If was weird to see Guerrero without hearing her yell "Excuse me" before Rose came to the ring.
    • Why would AEW security hold Cargill back but not try to take the belt Rose stole from her?
    • Sparks has been popping up in AEW more and more this year. It would be nice to see her get a contract. She is a good worker who has built up a nice following on the indie scene.

Orange Cassidy vs. Lee Johnson

4 OF 4

    Orange Cassidy and Lee Johnson.
    AEW

This week's Rampage main event saw Orange Cassidy defend the AEW All-Atlantic Championship against The Factory's Lee Johnson.

Johnson did not want to wait for Cassidy to put his hands in his pockets, so this match got going immediately. He and OC had an exchange of takedowns and counters that ended with Cassidy finally putting his hands in his pockets.

Best Friends prevented QT Marshall from interfering, but that distracted the ref so Nick Comoroto could get involved and send Cassidy over the barricade.

Danhausen was taken to the back after he was injured, so Best Friends went with him. However, Trent Beretta ran back down to spear Comoroto while Chuck Taylor took out the rest of The Factory with a dive. This paved the way for Cassidy to win with the Orange Punch.

While the in-ring action was a lot of fun, this match had way too much going on outside the ring. While it makes sense for their stables to accompany them to the ring, AEW relies way too much on outside interference and distractions these days.

It's fun when used sparingly, but when it becomes something that happens on every single show, it might need to be dialed back a bit.

    Winner: Orange Cassidy

    Grade: C+

    Notable Moments and Observations

    • It was a good thing that QT Marshall mentioned that Johnson was coming home instead of joining The Factory for the first time. A lot of people might not have even realized he was no longer in the group until he returned to it.
    • Danhasuen threatening to take people's teeth is always funny for some reason.
    • Johnson has packed on some muscle. If you look at him from when he first showed up in AEW compared to now, he is much bigger than he used to be.
    • Johnson should be on TV more, even if he is used to put others over. He is a great hand in the ring.

WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Analysis from November 11

The Usos sought to etch their names in the history books Friday night in a high-stakes tag team main event.
    Credit: WWE.com

History beckoned The Usos Friday night as part of an episode of SmackDown headlined by their defense of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.

A win and they surely would become the longest-reigning tag team champions ever in WWE. To accomplish that, though, they had to overcome the challenge of the previous record holders, The New Day.

Were they successful, thus continuing their reign atop the division and The Bloodline's dominance over the company as a whole, or did Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods bring their title reign to a crushing conclusion?

Find out now with this recap of the November 11 broadcast.

Match Card

1 OF 8
    • Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match: The New Day vs. The Usos
    • No. 1 Contender's Six-Pack Challenge Match: Shotzi vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Liv Morgan vs. Sonya Deville vs. Xia Li vs. Lacey Evans
    • SmackDown World Cup First-Round Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Santos Escobar

Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day vs. The Usos

2 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

The Usos sought to make history by becoming the longest-reigning tag team champions in WWE history to kick off Friday's show. In order to do so, Jimmy and Jey had to overcome familiar foes and the holders of the previous record, The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

Two teams with extraordinary in-ring chemistry and a legacy of show-stealing matches, they wrote the latest chapter in their historic feud in a fantastic opener. A red-hot crowd hung with every high spot, near-fall and false finish, elevating the overall quality and rewarding the combatants for their hard work.

The hot tag from Kingston to Woods, the near-fall off of a double top-rope splash by the champs and the teased title change off the Midnight Hour by the challengers had fans on the edge of their seats.

Kingston, making one last gasp effort to preserve New Day's legacy, leapt off the top rope and into the waiting arms of his opponents, who drove him into the mat with the 1-D for the win and successful title defense.

This was a fantastic match between two teams that are as responsible for preserving the art of tag team wrestling in this generation. Others get their due but it often feels like we take The Usos and New Day for granted, perhaps because of the amount of television time and exposure they have received over the years.

With much hype surrounding the contest and an abundance of historical talk, they rose to the occasion and delivered another classic in a long line of them. This was fantastic, no hyperbole.

The Usos defeated The New Day to retain

    Grade

    A+

    Top Moments

    • Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman were shown watching from the backstage area, the pressure on The Usos to retain and make history.
    • Michael Cole gave Big E props for his involvement in New Day's historic run as champions.
    • Jey covered his ears as the fans chanted "Sami," refusing to acknowledge The Honorary Uce.
    • Woods exploded into the ring off a great hot tag from Kingston.
    • Woods kicking out of the double splash from the Usos and Jimmy narrowly kicking out of Midnight Hour were two effective false-finishes that totally got the crowd to bite.

SmackDown World Cup Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Santos Escobar

3 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

The SmackDown World Cup kicked off in the night's second match as Shinsuke Nakamura battled Legado del Fantasma's Santos Escobar, who was accompanied to the squared circle by Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde and Zelina Vega.

A competitive, back and forth gave way to late-match interference from the heels as the competitors and commentary team put over the numbers advantage Escobar and Co. benefit from.

They did here, as the distraction caused by Nakamura laying out Del Toro and Wilde at ringside allowed Escobar to recover enough and deliver an avalanche Phantom Driver for the pin-fall victory.

Escobar looked impressive here and Legado del Fantasma continued to establish itself as a force on SmackDown. Beating Nakamura adds credibility to the faction and sets Escobar up as a potential early favorite in the World Cup tournament.

With a little more time, and without the pesky commercial in the middle of the match, this probably would have been even better. For now, it served its purpose in kicking off the tournament and legitimizing Escobar.

    Result

    Escobar defeated Nakamura

    Grade

    C+

    Top Moments

    • Nakamura wiped out Del Toro and Wilde at ringside.
    • Escobar's Phantom Driver was equal parts dangerous and picture-perfect from the top rope.

Bray Wyatt Makes a Friend; Six-Pack Challenge No. 1 Contender's Match

4 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

LA Knight joined Megan Morant for a backstage interview but was interrupted, first by the Bray Wyatt video bumpers, then the man himself. A tense interaction between the two gave way to the former Universal champion rocking the egotistical heel with a headbutt.

This might have felt like a random first feud for Wyatt, and maybe it was, but this was an intriguing segment that set the stage for The Eater of Worlds' first foray back into the squared circle.

Back in the arena, Shotzi, Raquel Rodriguez, Liv Morgan, Sonya Deville, Xia Li and Lacey Evans clashed in a Six-Pack Challenge Match for an opportunity to challenge Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women's Championship.

A sometimes wild and chaotic, at other times disjointed and ugly, match saw the story involving Morgan and Deville continue, and Rodriguez tease some increased intensity, before Shotzi delivered Never Sleep Again for the win and pin-fall on Evans.

Triple H has done some great things as the head of creative in WWE, including getting as many women on television as possible, but he really needs to focus on the SmackDown division and do a better job of building stars and stories.

We have repeatedly seen multi-women matches determine the latest No. 1 contender and worse yet, they are usually matches featuring women who have been underwritten and under-served by the creative process.

Shotzi winning is a great call and, hopefully, is but the start of a sustained run for her. It would have meant more if there was even a skosh of build to the win or consistent on-screen appearances from half of the women involved.

Yes, there are an ample amount of moving pieces for him to deal with as the overseer of five hours of television a week but this is one area that could use some attention so that these matches mean more.

    Result

Shotzi defeated Deville, Evans, Li, Morgan and Rodriguez

    Grade

    Top Moments

    • Morgan and Deville rekindled their rivalry, with the former dominating the latter while continuing to showcase the burgeoning unhinged side of herself.
    • "Hi, pretty girl," Morgan taunted Deville.
    • Cole did a solid job of reminding the audience of Shotzi and Rodriguez's recent history of tag team partners, explaining why they may be more inclined to help each other.
    • Rodriguez produced a table from under the ring. She set Deville up for a powerbomb but Morgan interrupted with a cross body block. An awkward landing led to a botched spot that left all three women down.
    • Backstage, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler confronted Shotzi, the latter putting the new No. 1 contender to sleep.

SmackDown World Cup Match: Braun Strowman vs. Jinder Mahal

6 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

Braun Strowman followed his victory over Omos at Crown Jewel with another impressive win, this time over former WWE champion Jinder Mahal in a SmackDown World Cup first-round match.

The Monster Among Monsters overcame an early onslaught by the heel to bowl him over and put Mahal away with the Monster Bomb, as called by Wade Barrett.

This was a one-sided beatdown that did more to potentially telegraph Strowman winning the tournament and challenging GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship than anything.

He is the biggest star in the field so that was already apparent but it would have been nice to see a potential twist early, even if putting the ice-cold Mahal over Strowman is a laughable idea, at best.

    Result

    Strowman defeated Mahal

    Grade

    Top Moments

    • Mahal claimed that no man could stop him on his quest to win the SmackDown World Cup. Strowman's entrance interrupted and the look on his face sold The Modern-Day Maharaja's fear.

B-Fab vs. Zelina Vega...Or Not

7 OF 8

The advertised match between B-Fab and Zelina Vega as part of the ongoing feud between Hit Row and Legado del Fantasma never got started as The Viking Raiders made their return, flanked by Sarah Logan.

Erik and Ivar obliterated five male Superstars while Vega escaped unscathed. B-Fab, not so much.

Logan rocked her with a pop-up headbutt, leaving her lying before joining her team and standing tall to close out the segment.

This was a hell of a reintroduction for The Viking Raiders and Logan looked like a total badass here, presented with haunting new look and completely immersing herself in it. This was better than anything we have seen out of this particular team to this point in their WWE run.

With Triple H at the helm and seemingly understanding this act better than anyone before him, the trio should thrive in ways it has not been allowed to.

    Result

    No contest

    Grade

    A

    Top Moments

    • Cole feigning confusion as to who Logan was at first put over the change in appearance and attitude of the former Riott Squad member.

The Bloodline Closes SmackDown

8 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

The WWE Universe now has its first taste of what the men's War Games match will look like at Survivor Series, thanks to the show-closing segment of Friday's show.

Roman Reigns and The Bloodline hit the ring, undoubtedly to bask in their accomplishments of the last week, until The Brawling Brutes' Butch and Ridge Holland interrupted. Sheamus returned and Drew McIntyre followed suit as the European contingent battled the top heel faction to close out the show.

There will be some who believe the War Games match should feature more stars to justify its place on the Survivor Series card but the Brutes and McIntyre are uber-over and should guarantee a damn good match against The Bloodline in the main event of the annual premium live event.

It also sets up a scenario where Sheamus can win and earn as hot at Reigns at Royal Rumble, keeping both men busy as WWE enters its most significant period.

    Grade

    Top Moments

    • "It's not easy being my cousin," Reigns said before reminding the world how he has always been acknowledged and celebrated.
    • Sheamus' mic cut out on him a couple of times, leading Reigns to improvise and mock him for not even being able to get that to work.
    • The pop for McIntyre was huge and indicative that his popularity has not waned despite the loss to Reigns back in September.
