WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Analysis from November 11

The Usos sought to etch their names in the history books Friday night in a high-stakes tag team main event.
    Credit: WWE.com

History beckoned The Usos Friday night as part of an episode of SmackDown headlined by their defense of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship.

A win and they surely would become the longest-reigning tag team champions ever in WWE. To accomplish that, though, they had to overcome the challenge of the previous record holders, The New Day.

Were they successful, thus continuing their reign atop the division and The Bloodline's dominance over the company as a whole, or did Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods bring their title reign to a crushing conclusion?

Find out now with this recap of the November 11 broadcast.

Match Card

1 OF 8
    • Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match: The New Day vs. The Usos
    • No. 1 Contender's Six-Pack Challenge Match: Shotzi vs. Raquel Rodriguez vs. Liv Morgan vs. Sonya Deville vs. Xia Li vs. Lacey Evans
    • SmackDown World Cup First-Round Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Santos Escobar

Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day vs. The Usos

2 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

The Usos sought to make history by becoming the longest-reigning tag team champions in WWE history to kick off Friday's show. In order to do so, Jimmy and Jey had to overcome familiar foes and the holders of the previous record, The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods.

Two teams with extraordinary in-ring chemistry and a legacy of show-stealing matches, they wrote the latest chapter in their historic feud in a fantastic opener. A red-hot crowd hung with every high spot, near-fall and false finish, elevating the overall quality and rewarding the combatants for their hard work.

The hot tag from Kingston to Woods, the near-fall off of a double top-rope splash by the champs and the teased title change off the Midnight Hour by the challengers had fans on the edge of their seats.

Kingston, making one last gasp effort to preserve New Day's legacy, leapt off the top rope and into the waiting arms of his opponents, who drove him into the mat with the 1-D for the win and successful title defense.

This was a fantastic match between two teams that are as responsible for preserving the art of tag team wrestling in this generation. Others get their due but it often feels like we take The Usos and New Day for granted, perhaps because of the amount of television time and exposure they have received over the years.

With much hype surrounding the contest and an abundance of historical talk, they rose to the occasion and delivered another classic in a long line of them. This was fantastic, no hyperbole.

    Top Moments

    • Roman Reigns, Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman were shown watching from the backstage area, the pressure on The Usos to retain and make history.
    • Michael Cole gave Big E props for his involvement in New Day's historic run as champions.
    • Jey covered his ears as the fans chanted "Sami," refusing to acknowledge The Honorary Uce.
    • Woods exploded into the ring off a great hot tag from Kingston.
    • Woods kicking out of the double splash from the Usos and Jimmy narrowly kicking out of Midnight Hour were two effective false-finishes that totally got the crowd to bite.

SmackDown World Cup Match: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Santos Escobar

3 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

The SmackDown World Cup kicked off in the night's second match as Shinsuke Nakamura battled Legado del Fantasma's Santos Escobar, who was accompanied to the squared circle by Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde and Zelina Vega.

A competitive, back and forth gave way to late-match interference from the heels as the competitors and commentary team put over the numbers advantage Escobar and Co. benefit from.

They did here, as the distraction caused by Nakamura laying out Del Toro and Wilde at ringside allowed Escobar to recover enough and deliver an avalanche Phantom Driver for the pin-fall victory.

Escobar looked impressive here and Legado del Fantasma continued to establish itself as a force on SmackDown. Beating Nakamura adds credibility to the faction and sets Escobar up as a potential early favorite in the World Cup tournament.

With a little more time, and without the pesky commercial in the middle of the match, this probably would have been even better. For now, it served its purpose in kicking off the tournament and legitimizing Escobar.

    • Nakamura wiped out Del Toro and Wilde at ringside.
    • Escobar's Phantom Driver was equal parts dangerous and picture-perfect from the top rope.

Bray Wyatt Makes a Friend; Six-Pack Challenge No. 1 Contender's Match

4 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

LA Knight joined Megan Morant for a backstage interview but was interrupted, first by the Bray Wyatt video bumpers, then the man himself. A tense interaction between the two gave way to the former Universal champion rocking the egotistical heel with a headbutt.

This might have felt like a random first feud for Wyatt, and maybe it was, but this was an intriguing segment that set the stage for The Eater of Worlds' first foray back into the squared circle.

Back in the arena, Shotzi, Raquel Rodriguez, Liv Morgan, Sonya Deville, Xia Li and Lacey Evans clashed in a Six-Pack Challenge Match for an opportunity to challenge Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women's Championship.

A sometimes wild and chaotic, at other times disjointed and ugly, match saw the story involving Morgan and Deville continue, and Rodriguez tease some increased intensity, before Shotzi delivered Never Sleep Again for the win and pin-fall on Evans.

Triple H has done some great things as the head of creative in WWE, including getting as many women on television as possible, but he really needs to focus on the SmackDown division and do a better job of building stars and stories.

We have repeatedly seen multi-women matches determine the latest No. 1 contender and worse yet, they are usually matches featuring women who have been underwritten and under-served by the creative process.

Shotzi winning is a great call and, hopefully, is but the start of a sustained run for her. It would have meant more if there was even a skosh of build to the win or consistent on-screen appearances from half of the women involved.

Yes, there are an ample amount of moving pieces for him to deal with as the overseer of five hours of television a week but this is one area that could use some attention so that these matches mean more.

    • Morgan and Deville rekindled their rivalry, with the former dominating the latter while continuing to showcase the burgeoning unhinged side of herself.
    • "Hi, pretty girl," Morgan taunted Deville.
    • Cole did a solid job of reminding the audience of Shotzi and Rodriguez's recent history of tag team partners, explaining why they may be more inclined to help each other.
    • Rodriguez produced a table from under the ring. She set Deville up for a powerbomb but Morgan interrupted with a cross body block. An awkward landing led to a botched spot that left all three women down.
    • Backstage, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler confronted Shotzi, the latter putting the new No. 1 contender to sleep.

SmackDown World Cup Match: Braun Strowman vs. Jinder Mahal

6 OF 8

    Credit: WWE.com

Braun Strowman followed his victory over Omos at Crown Jewel with another impressive win, this time over former WWE champion Jinder Mahal in a SmackDown World Cup first-round match.

The Monster Among Monsters overcame an early onslaught by the heel to bowl him over and put Mahal away with the Monster Bomb, as called by Wade Barrett.

This was a one-sided beatdown that did more to potentially telegraph Strowman winning the tournament and challenging GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship than anything.

He is the biggest star in the field so that was already apparent but it would have been nice to see a potential twist early, even if putting the ice-cold Mahal over Strowman is a laughable idea, at best.

    • Mahal claimed that no man could stop him on his quest to win the SmackDown World Cup. Strowman's entrance interrupted and the look on his face sold The Modern-Day Maharaja's fear.

B-Fab vs. Zelina Vega...Or Not

7 OF 8

The advertised match between B-Fab and Zelina Vega as part of the ongoing feud between Hit Row and Legado del Fantasma never got started as The Viking Raiders made their return, flanked by Sarah Logan.

Erik and Ivar obliterated five male Superstars while Vega escaped unscathed. B-Fab, not so much.

Logan rocked her with a pop-up headbutt, leaving her lying before joining her team and standing tall to close out the segment.

This was a hell of a reintroduction for The Viking Raiders and Logan looked like a total badass here, presented with haunting new look and completely immersing herself in it. This was better than anything we have seen out of this particular team to this point in their WWE run.

With Triple H at the helm and seemingly understanding this act better than anyone before him, the trio should thrive in ways it has not been allowed to.

    Result

    Top Moments

    • Cole feigning confusion as to who Logan was at first put over the change in appearance and attitude of the former Riott Squad member.

The Bloodline Closes SmackDown

8 OF 8

    Credit: WWE

The WWE Universe now has its first taste of what the men's War Games match will look like at Survivor Series, thanks to the show-closing segment of Friday's show.

Roman Reigns and The Bloodline hit the ring, undoubtedly to bask in their accomplishments of the last week, until The Brawling Brutes' Butch and Ridge Holland interrupted. Sheamus returned and Drew McIntyre followed suit as the European contingent battled the top heel faction to close out the show.

There will be some who believe the War Games match should feature more stars to justify its place on the Survivor Series card but the Brutes and McIntyre are uber-over and should guarantee a damn good match against The Bloodline in the main event of the annual premium live event.

It also sets up a scenario where Sheamus can win and earn as hot at Reigns at Royal Rumble, keeping both men busy as WWE enters its most significant period.

    Grade

    Top Moments

    • "It's not easy being my cousin," Reigns said before reminding the world how he has always been acknowledged and celebrated.
    • Sheamus' mic cut out on him a couple of times, leading Reigns to improvise and mock him for not even being able to get that to work.
    • The pop for McIntyre was huge and indicative that his popularity has not waned despite the loss to Reigns back in September.

AEW Dynamite Results: Winners, Grades Reaction and Analysis from November 9

Sana Ejaz Khan

Jamie Hayter continued her march to Full Gear and a shot at the AEW Women's Championship.
    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

On the road to Full Gear on November 19, All Elite Wrestling rolled into Boston for an episode of Dynamite that further built its top storylines and feuds in preparation for its final pay-per-view of 2022.

Jamie Hayter battled Skye Blue in one-on-one action, looking for one more key victory to help sustain momentum ahead of her AEW Women's World Championship opportunity against Toni Storm.

Elsewhere on the show, Bryan Danielson and Sammy Guevara did battle for the second consecutive week, and we heard from AEW world champion Jon Moxley and MJF ahead of their upcoming blockbuster main event.

Match Card

1 OF 8
    • Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match: Bryan Danielson vs. Sammy Guevara (with Tay Melo)
    • Full Gear World Title Eliminator Tournament match: Eddie Kingston vs. Ethan Page
    • Skye Blue vs. Jamie Hayter
    • Eight-Man Tag Team match: FTR and The Acclaimed vs. The Gunn Club and Swerve In Our Glory
    • Saraya and Britt Baker face-to-face
    • AEW world champion Jon Moxley promo

FTR and The Acclaimed vs. The Gunns and Swerve In Our Glory

2 OF 8

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Two top tag team feuds converged Wednesday night in the opening contest as Ring of Honor, AAA and IWGP world tag team champions FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) teamed with AEW world tag team champions The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens) to battle The Gunns (Austin and Colten) and Swerve In Our Glory (Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee).

This action-packed contest, featuring two of the most over teams in wrestling (FTR and The Acclaimed), was a solid way to kick off the show.

None of the four teams really stood out among the others but the energy was up, the crowd was red hot and the babyfaces went over to build momentum ahead of Full Gear on November 19.

Given the rest of the card, this was positioned correctly and set the tone for the remainder of the broadcast, which will be instrumental in drumming up excitement for a Full Gear pay-per-view that lacks the anticipation of previous AEW events.

    Result

FTR and The Acclaimed def. The Gunns and Swerve In Our Glory

    Grade

    Top Moments

    • Caster's pre-match rap took aim at piped-in crowd noise for Strickland, Herschel Walker, Tom Brady, Kyrie Irving and more.
    • Billy Gunn jumped Strickland ahead of the match, looking for revenge after an attack that left him nursing hand injuries.
    • During the commercial break, W. Morrissey of The Firm helped the heels gain control of the match by isolating Harwood.
    • The Gunns taunted FTR with a Big Rig to Bowens.
    • Caster wiped out his partners and opponents with a dive from the top rope to the floor.
    • MJF cut a promo from the set of Barstool Sports' Pardon My Take podcast, taking shots at Cody Rhodes, Chris Jericho, the infamous post-All Out media scrum and promised to beat AEW world champion Jon Moxley.
    • "I'm not waiting for the spotlight anymore. I am grabbing it!"

Full Gear World Title Eliminator: Eddie Kingston vs. Ethan Page

3 OF 8

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Hey, Eddie Kingston still works here!

The New Yorker returned to the squared circle this week, battling longtime indie rival Ethan Page in the first match of the Full Gear World Title Eliminator Tournament.

A solid, physical bout saw All Ego score the win after benefiting from interference by manager Stokely Hathaway, delivering an Avalanche Ego's Edge from the ropes as The Firm continued to establish themselves on the road to Full Gear.

Neither man could really afford the loss but Kingston losing to a guy like Page, whose momentum has been nonexistent since the absolution of his partnership with Scorpio Sky, feels wrong.

Kingston is a main event-caliber performer. Beating him in this manner, which still felt rather clean given the time between Hathaway's interference and the finish, diminishes his credibility.

Considering Tony Khan's attempt to heat up Page of late—including last week's attack on Jon Moxley—maybe don't book him against a guy like Kingston, who is as cold as he has been thus far in his AEW run?

Page is uber-talented and has earned a win of this magnitude, but it's disappointing that it came at the expense of The Mad King.

    Result

    Page defeated Kingston

    Grade

    Top Moments

    • Hey, Ortiz still works here, too!
    • Taz put over Kingston as someone who is more than just a brawler, touting his technical skill. Excalibur countered by putting over Page's ability to throw fists when the time calls for it.
    • Hathaway jumped on the apron and provided a distraction that forced referee Paul Turner to miss Page tapping out to the Stretch Plum.

Wardlow vs. Ariya Daivari

4 OF 8

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

TNT champion Wardlow, accompanied by Ring of Honor Television champion Samoa Joe, answered an open challenge by Ariya Daivari.

War Daddy marched to the ring and made short work of his opponent with a devastating Powerbomb Symphony.

After the match, Wardlow called out Powerhouse Hobbs and vowed to win all of the titles in the company. This provoked a shot to the back of the head with the ROH TV title by Joe, who put Wardlow out with the Coquina Clutch while Hobbs watched on.

Much like the Jeff Jarrett debut a week ago, this felt like desperation booking to drum up any sort of interest in what these guys are doing, all while fans would have been more than happy to see Wardlow and Hobbs compete in a heavyweight clash.

Ring of Honor is supposed to be a separate company, so the idea of Wardlow's off-the-cuff comment infuriating Joe enough to attack him without reason makes little sense.

The whole Wardlow push has been a mess to this point, with Khan and Co. seemingly having no idea how to follow up his momentous victory over MJF in May and ruining all of the goodwill and genuine heat that had been built to that point.

    Result

    Wardlow def. Daivari

    Grade

    D

    Top Moments

    • Hobbs watched from the ramp, probably wondering what the hell was going on, much like the rest of the viewers.

Saraya and Britt Baker Face-to-Face; Trent Beretta vs. Jay Lethal

5 OF 8

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Tony Schiavone oversaw a face-to-face between Britt Baker and Saraya, after the latter announced her long-awaited return to the ring at Full Gear.

An emotional Saraya announced she was cleared by doctors while Baker took exception to her walking into AEW and taking advantage of the hard work she did to help build it.

The British fighter responded, calling Baker's star power into question and claiming her match with Saraya will be the biggest of her career.

A stellar promo segment, it sold the life out of their upcoming match and featured some great mic work from both women. The real emotion from Saraya sold the legitimacy of her words while Baker confidently held her own. This was great stuff and the best thing the women's division in AEW has produced in quite some time.

Immediately after, a backstage confrontation between Best Friends, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh gave way to a match between Lethal and Trent Beretta.

A solid, unspectacular bout saw Lethal target his opponent's knee, which had been injured in a pre-match attack. Berreta mounted a momentary comeback but interference from Singh and Dutt gave way to the former ROH world champ delivering the Lethal Injection for the win.

Jeff Jarrett appeared and cut a promo putting over Lethal, Dutt and Singh but could not help but throw in a jab at Braun Strowman, Triple H and WWE, just in case you didn't remember what the bigger, frankly better, wrestling show has been of late.

    Grade

A+ for Saraya and Baker's face-to-face; C for Berreta vs. Lethal and Double J's promo

    Top Moments

    • "Unfortunately...for Britt, I'm 100 percent cleared," an emotional Saraya said.
    • "We don't take walk-ins so make an appointment!" Baker told her rival.
    • Some of Saraya's comments were met with audible jeers from the crowd, in which she referenced her long journey back to the ring that included battling her drug addiction on live TV.
    • Berreta delivered an avalanche half-and-half to turn the match against Lethal in his favor, only for Dutt and Singh to interfere. Danhausen got involved but was laid out quickly, and Lethal returned his attention to Beretta.

AEW World Champion Jon Moxley Promo

6 OF 8

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

AEW world champion Jon Moxley hit the ring, accompanied by William Regal, to respond to MJF's promo from earlier in the show.

The titleholder made the correlation between his and the Casino ladder match winner's journeys before taking laughing off the idea that MJF is the devil. He vowed to retain his belt at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on November 19.

Moxley has been on fire this year, compiling his best 12 months on the mic and delivering some of his more celebrated in-ring performances. Not everyone loves him or his style of work, but there is no denying he has stepped up and filled an important role as world champion at a time when AEW most needed him. And we're not convinced it is over.

The popular opinion will be that MJF wins and takes the title at Full Gear, but Moxley still has gas in the tank in this role and a successful title defense should not be out of the question.

More great stuff from The Death Rider here.

    Grade

    B+

    Top Moments

    • Moxley told the story of his first meeting with William Regal, the ass-kicking he received then and the work he put in to avenge it. He did, ripping the former King of the Ring's ear off the side of his head.
    • "Who exactly is MJF?" Moxley asked, suggesting his Full Gear opponent is having an existential crisis.
    • "I have seen the devil, I have met the devil, I have looked into his eyes...dude, you are not that."
    • "Just remember one thing: Everything you've done to this point has been easy," Moxley said in a warning to the No. 1 contender.

Skye Blue vs. Jamie Hayter

7 OF 8

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

Ahead of her championship opportunity at Full Gear, Jamie Hayter hit the ring for a one-on-one match with Skye Blue, who was accompanied by AEW women's champion Toni Storm.

Benefitting from interference caused by Britt Baker, Hayter dominated throughout the commercial break. When Blue attempted a comeback, the No. 1 contender obliterated her with a ripcord lariat for the win.

A post-match beatdown was halted by Storm, who chased the victorious heel to the floor.

This was little more than a showcase for Hayter and there is nothing wrong with that. Blue was fine in her role of plucky babyface, but she was overpowered and wiped out in short order by her vastly superior opponent.

Which begs the question: Why did Tony Khan book Baker to interfere here? Did Blue need to be protected so badly that Hayter could not just win the match clean?

For the sake of her credibility and obvious popularity, if the plan is to put the title on Hayter, one can only hope she is allowed to go over Storm clean in the middle of the ring, doing what The Good Doctor was not able to and planting the seeds for the inevitable breakup.

    Result

    Hayter pinned Blue

    Grade

    C

    Top Moments

    • Baker appeared at ringside and tripped Blue up, allowing Hayter to take control heading into the break. She interjected herself throughout the picture-in-picture commercial timeout, too.
    • The crowd chanted Hayter's name, a much-deserved bit of support for a star ready to break out.
    • A great Code Red by Blue earned the underdog babyface a two-count.
    • Lance Archer attacked Ricky Starks backstage to put over their Full Gear World Title Eliminator Tournament match or something. A totally random, unnecessary angle.

Best 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: Bryan Danielson vs. Sammy Guevara

8 OF 8

    Credit: All Elite Wrestling

A brilliant battle two weeks ago, which Bryan Danielson won, served as the motivation for the Best 2-out-of-3 Falls match against Sammy Guevara in Wednesday's main event.

Guevara attempted to outthink Danielson early by intentionally getting disqualified for the sake of earning an early advantage. He quickly evened the match at one fall apiece moments later by targeting the head of his opponent.

The resilient Danielson fought back late, but his rival had an answer for everything. It was an ill-fated 630 splash from the young heel that proved his downfall, though, as The American Dragon got his knees up and, moments later, submitted Guevara for the hard-fought victory.

More of this, and less of whatever The Spanish God had been doing for the previous year is exactly what he needs to help rehabilitate his star and rediscover the momentum he had a year ago at this time.

Tay Melo is a great heater on the floor and adds to Guevara's presentation, but he is an immensely talented young wrestler who will only benefit from working with guys like Danielson. Much more so than some of the other veterans with bad habits that he has been exposed to at this point in his development.

This was a great contest that would be an even better end to a feud if it wasn't for a Four-Way ROH World Championship match also featuring Chris Jericho and Claudio Castagnoli at Full Gear.

As it was, it was still a phenomenal main event that again proved Danielson is a once-in-a-lifetime wrestler and Guevara has every tool to still be a guy AEW builds its future around.

    Result

Danielson defeated Guevara, two falls to one

    Grade

    A

    Top Moments

    • Guevara sacrificed the first fall, losing via disqualification but targeting the previously injured left eye on Danielson ahead of the second fall.
    • The Spanish God evened things up at one fall apiece, rocking Danielson with a knee to the head.
    • Danielson missed a diving headbutt and Guevara applied a LeBell Lock, using his opponent's own finisher against him.
    • A bloodied American Dragon unloaded on the heel with a barrage of kicks on the floor, only for Guevara to answer with chops and a running dropkick during the break.
    • Tay Melo interrupted referee Bryce Remsburg's count and was booted from ringside.
    • The Boston fans answered a Shooting Star Press to the floor with chants of "You still suck." Guevara followed it by attempting a cutter, only to be caught in the grasp of Danielson.
    • Danielson tried for the Busaiku Knee, only for Guevara to catch him with a Walls of Jericho. The babyface fought out and delivered another.
