AEW Full Gear 2022 Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights

All Elite Wrestling presented its final pay-per-view offering of 2022 Saturday night on ProfessionalPK, headlined by a much-anticipated world title match in which Jon Moxley defended against No. 1 contender, MJF.
Would Moxley continue his momentous year, reaffirming his place atop the AEW mountain or would MJF realize his boyhood dream by capturing the title on his own and proving his staunchest doubters wrong?

10-Man Tag Team Match
- Cassidy wound up to knock out a punch-drunk Marshall but the leader of the heel faction dropped before he could make contact.
- The Factory broke up the Best Friends hug, then mocked them by delivering one of their own.
- Danhausen arrived late, with a darker entrance, blood-spattered face paints and a jar of teeth.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingThe night’s in-ring action kicked off with 10-man action as AEW All-Atlantic champion Orange Cassidy, Rocky Romero, Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor promised a very mysterious, very evil partner to battle The Factory’s Aaron Solow, Nick Comoroto, Lee Johnson, Cole Karter and QT Marshall.
A straight-forward tag match gave way to an explosive finish as Danhausen emerged from the jaws of comedy a darker, more intense and aggressive version of himself than we had seen to this point in AEW.
He obliterated Marshall with a German suplex, poured a jar of teeth in the mouth of Comoroto and blasted him with a kick for the win.
As a match, this was a basic, spot-heavy match that saw everyone get their stuff in en route to the re-emergence of Danhausen. The question now is whether this is a permanent change for the character or if it was one and done.
If it is the latter, it will be interesting to see how long it can sustain and whether it is met with any more credibility than the previous incarnation.

Full Gear World Title Eliminator Tournament Semifinal: Ricky Starks vs. Brian Cage
- Page told Taz he would meet with him after the match to find out the weaknesses of both men since The Human Suplex Machine once had them both as part of his team.
- “Lot of flying meat!” Taz and Page waxed poetically, cracking Tony Schiavone up on commentary.
- “He’s hurt,” Schiavone said. “Good. I’m glad!” Page responded.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingRicky Starks and Brian Cage battled in the night’s next match, a spot in the finals of the Full Gear World Title Eliminator Tournament finals against Ethan Page at stake.
Starks sold injured ribs, caused by Lance Archer and Cage just 24 hours earlier on Rampage. They were the target of The Machine’s attack on Absolute early and often, forcing the charismatic babyface to fight back from underneath.
He did just that, delivering a destroyer piledriver and putting Cage away with the Rochambeau for the win.
Starks is very clearly the future of the company, a charismatic uber-athlete who can do everything a star in pro wrestling needs to be able to. He showcases that every time he is on television. He needed this win and will likely knock off Page in the finals to earn the title opportunity.
How he fares in that title match will say a lot about how the company sees him moving forward.

Eddie Kingston vs. Jun Akiyama
- Nothing mattered as much as the tearful show of respect by Kingston to Akiyama after the match. It was the raw emotion that makes pro wrestling so damn special at its very best.
- "Hey, people at home, it's 7:53:40. Order the g*****n pay-per-view," Kingston told the audience.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingEddie Kingston was emotional as he talked to Renee Paquette prior to the contest with Jun Akiyama, the enormity of the match and what it meant to him obvious. He rode that emotion into the squared circle, where he wasted little time unloading on the man who was so highly influential to the pro wrestler that he would become.
The hard-hitting, strong-style workers beat the hell out of each other, trading chest-reddening chops before tossing each other around in exploder suplexes. Akiyama rocked Kingston with an exposed knee but could not keep Mad King down.
Kingston absorbed, withstood, and blasted Akiyama with a back fist for the hard-fought victory.
This was extraordinary and made that much more special by what it clearly meant to Kingston. This is a guy whose last few months have been tumultuous, to say the least, but whose passion and love for pro wrestling have never been in question. To see him have that moment, against a man he considers a hero, was inspiring.
The post-match address by Kingston was great, too. Everything about this was phenomenal.

Steel Cage Match: Jungle Boy vs. Luchasaurus
- Perry bled early, the result of Luchasaurus' early physicality.
- "He's working it longer than Mike Sharpe," Jim Ross sad of Cage's arm injury.
- Cage unlocked the structure's door, allowing the fight to spill outside just in time for security to drag Captain Charisma from ringside.
- Perry delivered a Killswitch to his opponent, on a steel chair, but Luchasaurus kicked out.
- Luchasaurus taunted his opponent, telling him to stay down, to which Perry responded with defiance and a barrage of his own strikes.
- The tribute to his father before Perry dove off the top of the cage with an elbow drop was a great moment, as was the camera catching his emotional sister and mother at ringside.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingOnce upon a time, "Jungle Boy" Jack Perry and Luchasaurus shared a momentous moment as they captured the AEW World Tag Team Championship. The deceitful influence of Christian Cage and a shocking betrayal later gave way to this grudge match between childhood friends, inside a steel cage, to kick off the show.
The dinosaur-masked big man dominated the action, overwhelming his smaller opponent with his size and strength advantage. He bloodied his former friend and partner and intimidated referee Bryce Remsburg when the official attempted to buy Perry time.
Cage found himself dragged to the back by security but even without his presence, Luchasaurus continued to dominate. That is, until a massive destroyer. Steel chairs and tables came into play, the result of the fight spilling outside the cage after Christian unlocked the door.
Perry was repeatedly forced to fight from underneath and he did, overcoming his opponent's advantages to deliver an elbow drop from the top of the cage and apply the Snare Trap for the submission victory.
This was a great way to open the show that started somewhat slow but built into a brutal, hard-fought, grueling match that saw the right guy go over while adding a signature moment to his highlight reel.
This was a star-making performance for Perry, who finally appears to be back on track after some questionable booking over the last two or so months.

AEW World Trios Championship Match: The Elite vs. Death Triangle
- Approximately how much did Tony Khan shell out for the rights to the Kansas hit?
- "Not the Terminator clap!" Jim Ross said, almost mockingly of Omega pumping himself up.
- Nick Jackson delivered a top rope rana to Penta, sending him into the other competitors in the match on the floor.
- Death Triangle delivered triple tombstones.
- Pac, his nose bloodied, delivered the Black Arrow to Omega and applied the Brutalizer in a great false finish.
- Pac tossed Fenix the timekeeper hammer but the masked luchador refused to use it and paid in the form of a V-Trigger from Omega.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingThe Elite returned from their suspension Saturday to challenge the AEW World Trios Champions Death Triangle in the night's second match, entering the arena to "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas and giving their most ardent supporters everywhere another reason to tout their perceived greatness and transcendence on Twitter.
Or something like that.
The party match style of AEW's trios matches was front and center early as Kenny Omega, Nick and Matt Jackson took the fight to Pac, Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo, keeping them off-guard with their unbridled energy and high-flying arsenal.
Death Triangle attempted to slow things down but a hot tag to Omega popped the crowd and brought The Elite back into the match.
The action broke down, as it tends to do in matches of this type, with Pac trying to get Fenix to embrace his dark side and use the timekeeper's hammer to his advantage. After several near-falls, false finishes, and drama-filled moments, Fenix finally did, rocking Omega with the weapon and pinning him to the shock and awe of those inside the Prudential Center in Newark.
The match was great. That was never really in question. The finish was a major shock to the system as it appeared a foregone conclusion that The Elite would win in their comeback. In the end, this was less about Omega and the Bucks and more about Fenix's descent into heeldom by doing what was necessary to ensure victory.
Omega and the Bucks will get their win back, maybe as soon as the Winter Is Coming edition of Dynamite, but the emphasis on Fenix and the shocking outcome helped elevate this past the spot-happy trios match it was prior to that development.

TBS Championship Match: Jade Cargill vs. Nyla Rose
- Rose entered with Marina Shafir and Vickie Guerrero in a lowrider, a tribute to the latter's late, great husband, Eddie.
- Cargill entered the arena in Thundercats-inspired gear.
- Cargill delivered Rose's own Beast Bomb to her.
- Rose used Cargill's own Jaded against her in a turnabout-is-fair-play scenario.
Credit: All Elite Wrestling"The Native Beast" Nyla Rose challenged TBS champion, Jade Cargill, in a way no other competitor had to this point, testing her abilities and forcing her on the defensive repeatedly throughout this title bout.
On more than one occasion, it looked like Rose would become the first woman to defeat Cargill but the incredible athlete withstood her own Jaded finisher being used against her to down Rose and score the pinfall victory.
The match was, to put it kindly, disjointed. It never appeared as though the two were on the same page and it showed. With that said, the competitors overcame messy moments to deliver a quality final stretch, with Cargill showcasing her strength and emphatically defeating her challenger.
The question now is what is next for the champion?
Cargill has been so dominant that there is no obvious choice to dethrone her. The longer she stays champion and things remain status quo, she becomes less interesting.

Fatal 4-Way Ring of Honor World Championship Match
- Ian Riccaboni disputed the idea that Jericho is the greatest Ring of Honor champion, instead pointing to Samoa Joe and his 600-plus-day reign as the titleholder.
- Danielson and Castagnoli showed respect before unloading on each other, knowing full well what was at stake in the match.
- Guevara pulled Jericho off a pin, igniting a fight between them that culminated in The Wizard applying the Walls of Jericho.
- The Spanish God faked Jericho into an embrace, then delivered the GTH and a Shooting Star Press for a stunning near-fall.
- Danielson delivered a Busaiku Knee to Castagnoli for another great false finish.
- Guevara delivered a Spanish Fly from the top to Danielson. Moments later, Castagnoli delivered the Neutralizer on his BCC teammate.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingChris Jericho's besmirching of the Ring of Honor World Championship dominated the build to Full Gear. Saturday, The Ocho defended his title against fellow Jericho Appreciation Society member Sammy Guevara and Blackpool Combat Club challengers Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli.
The build to the match was a heart MJF "mid" to say the least but this was a fantastic four-way match featuring guys who know what it takes to deliver in high-profile situations. Jericho held his own in there with Castagnoli and Danielson while Guevara showed up and showed out to continue what has been a bit of a career renaissance over the last month.
What very easily could have devolved into an overbooked mess that focused too much on dissension within the Jericho Appreciation Society and Blackpool Combat Club instead focused on logical storytelling between four competitors who set aside friendship in search of gold.
Jericho, a grizzled and alert veteran of the squared circle, seized the opening and scored the win to remain champion and continue his crusade. Great stuff and one of the better matches of the show to this point.

Saraya vs. Dr. Britt Baker DMD
- Emotion painted the face of Saraya as she stepped through the curtain and made her way to the ring.
- Baker taunted her opponent's brother at ringside as she continued to target the neck of Saraya.
- The embrace between Saraya and Zack after the match was a great moment and one of those that transcended what happened between the ropes.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingAfter five years away from the squared circle, Saraya returned to in-ring competition Saturday, battling Dr. Britt Baker DMD in a grudge match that turned intensely personal in the weeks leading into it.
With her brother, Zack, watching from ringside, Saraya found herself on the defensive early. Baker targeted her neck repeatedly, looking to exploit the injury that dominated the conversation in the build to the match.
Saraya fought back and the action remained relatively even down the stretch, with each woman kicking out of the other's signature moves. With frustration mounting on both sides, Saraya delivered consecutive Ram-Paiges for the pinfall victory.
There is a lot to be said about the outcome and whether it was the right call to put someone in the first match in five years over an elite performer who carried an entire division on her back for two years but with that said, Saraya was better than she had any right being.
Was the action always pretty? No, nor should it have been. The babyface had a long layoff and ring rust was to be expected. Still, she performed above and beyond what anyone could have expected. Most of all, she was relatively safe, not taking unnecessary bumps.
For as much as Saraya may be the topic of conversation, we really must pay homage to Baker, who was great and carried the weight of the world on her shoulders here. Not only did she have to be safe with Saraya, but she was also responsible for the structure of the match and ensuring her opponent remembered everything they had planned.
She was great, keeping things on-task and making sure Saraya had a successful return to the ring. She was a pro's pro and definitely deserves recognition for her unenviable position.

TNT Championship Match: Wardlow vs. Samoa Joe vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
- Wardlow flew through the air with a variation of Jeff Hardy's Whisper in the Wind, wiping Joe and Hobbs out to the delight and awe of Jim Ross on commentary.
- Joe wiped out both opponents on the floor with a tope suicida.
- Wardlow uncorked his powerbomb symphony, only for Joe to use the TNT title belt to score the win.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingThree of the biggest and baddest in AEW did battle in the night's next match as TNT champion Wardlow defended against Ring of Honor World Television champion Samoa Joe and Powerhouse Hobbs.
A well-paced, hard-hitting battle of badass heavyweights saw Joe steal the win after blasting Wardlow with the TNT Championship after War Daddy uncorked his powerbomb symphony on Hobbs. He choked out Powerhouse to score the victory and become a duel champion.
Joe winning sets up a Ring of Honor PPV match with Wardlow, something that will benefit that event immensely, but hurt Hobbs exponentially.
Hobbs has been so poorly utilized over the course of his AEW run that it is becoming clearer with every passing week that the super athlete is going to make a promoter a lot of money one day and that promoter's name is Triple H.
But, hey, Wardlow still looked like a total badass throughout so they did enough to protect him that his inevitable victory over Joe should help recuperate him following some horrendous booking this Summer and Fall.

No DQ, No Count-Out Match: Sting and Darby Allin vs. Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal
- Satnam Singh caught Allin soaring off a ladder, carried him to the ringside area and tossed him onto the entrance ramp unprotected.
- Sting jumped out of the stands and wiped out Singh, Lethal and Sonjay Dutt on the arena floor.
- Singh delivered a chokeslam to Sting but the Hall of Famer kicked out at two.
- Allin scaled the ropes for the Coffin Drop but Jarrett rocked him with a guitar shot to the back in midair.
- Sting delivered a Scorpion Death Drop while Allin added a Coffin Drop, eliminating Singh from the picture.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingThere were no Natural Born Thrillaz to be found, no "That 70s Guy" Mike Awesome or Vampiro, but the next match on the night's lengthy card sure felt a lot like 2000 WCW as Sting and Jeff Jarrett stood across the squared circle from each other once more.
The Icon partnered with Darby Allin to battle Double J and Jay Lethal in a match that was not nearly as hot as the names involved would have you believe.
The babyfaces took the fight to the heels early and often, punishing them for the living hell they had made their lives in the weeks leading into the show. The heels surged back, thanks in large part to the monstrous Satnam Singh, but the teamwork of the babyfaces allowed them to negate him late and put Lethal away to score the win.
This was your sports-entertainment match of the night, with a ton of high spots and overbooking leading to the fan-servicing finish. Allin and Sting going over was the right call, but one has to wonder what becomes of Jarrett, Lethal and Co. Do they just disappear from television? Is the feud over?
Jarrett is great, but he has felt out of place in this company since day one so leaving him off the television and bringing him back only occasionally is probably the best move, if not keeping him behind the scenes totally.

AEW Interim World Women's Championship Match: Toni Storm vs. Jamie Hayter
- The commentary team covered up for Hayter's arrogance at one point, potentially setting the stage for that to come into play later in the bout.
- The near-fall off of Hater's Storm Zero on the champion was great stuff and the chorus of boos that spilled from the stands suggested they hooked the crowd.
- The energy that exuded from Hayter and the fans after her victory was exactly what it should have been, proving that her win meant something to the fans who had supported her to this point.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingThe intensity was at a high early on in the clash between former friends Toni Storm and Jamie Hayter for the former's AEW Interim World Women's Championship. The Aussie sought to retain against her British counterpart, taking her to the floor and laying into her with hard-hitting strikes.
Hayter responded, dishing out a few of her own and seizing control after a hot start by the champ. The physicality ramped up and Storm mounted a comeback late. Rebel, though, cut off her momentum with a shot to the face with the women's title.
A bloodied Storm, her nose crimson, continued to fight through everything Hayter threw at her. When Dr. Britt Baker DMD showed up and delivered a stomp on the belt, she kicked out of Storm Zero.
The challenger followed suit, kicking out of the same move as chants of "Jamie" rose from the stands. A Hayte-breaker scored yet another two-count as the challenger expressed frustration over her opponent's resilience.
All of the guts and determination proved to be for naught as Baker exposed a turnbuckle pad, Hayter rammed Storm face-first into it and scored the win and title off the ripcord lariat.
This was a really, really strong wrestling match that put the women's division front and center and culminated with the most fan-friendly outcome of the night. A hard-hitting, uber-physical match saw champ and challenger unload on each other with jarring strikes before Baker and Rebel proved the difference.
Baker was overheard exclaiming, "it's Jamie's time!" The question is how long she is willing to play second-fiddle to the champion at the expense of her own title aspirations. And where does this leave Storm and, even more importantly, what does it mean for Thunder Rosa when she returns from injury?
The fact that there are questions surrounding the women's title that fans are actually genuinely interested in having answered is a step in the right direction for the much-maligned section of the roster.

AEW World Tag Team Championship Match: The Acclaimed vs. Swerve In Our Glory
- Excalibur put over the fact that Billy Gunn did not accompany The Acclaimed, claiming "Daddy Ass" did not want his emotions to overwhelm him and cost Bowens and Caster the titles.
- The pop for The Acclaimed was not as loud as it has been in recent months, likely the result of a long, bloated PPV card.
- Strickland attempted a suplex on the guardrail at ringside but Bowens reversed into one of his own on the floor.
- Bowens delivered a reverse rana to Lee to create separation and make the tag to Caster.
- Caster delivered a crossbody to Lee, driving him into the guardrail and bending it in half.
- The challengers delivered the Fall From Glory but Caster kicked out.
- Billy Gunn arrived, preventing Strickland from snapping Caster's fingers with a pair of pliers, a fate similar to that suffered by Daddy Ass.
- Strickland, finally losing his patience with his tag team partner, slapped Lee. The Limitless One walked out on his partner, leaving Strickland to fend for himself.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingFor the third time, The Acclaimed's Anthony Bowens and Max Caster battled Swerve In Our Glory's Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland, the former's AEW World Tag Team Championship on the line.
Bowens was forced to overcome a shoulder injury that the challengers exploited early and frequently throughout the match. Less than 100 percent, he was clearly the weak link early on. The young star powered through and, with Caster, overcame a united effort by Strickland and Lee to regain the titles.
When frustration set in late, Swerve smacked his partner, causing Lee to walk out on him and allowing The Acclaimed to down the lone member of the challenging team for the successful title defense.
This was better than the title switch in New York, but not to the All Out bout.
The story of Bowens' injured shoulder helped the storyline early while it felt like the intensifying dissension between the heels should have been played up a bit more rather than just randomly popping back up late.
Strickland and Lee are definitely splitting, ending their run through the division and freeing The Acclaimed up for fresh new opponents in the weeks and months to come. Who that might be remains to be seen but, hopefully, it is an opponent who will allow Bowens and Caster to build on their considerable momentum.

AEW World Championship Match: Jon Moxley vs. MJF
- Chants of "MJF" and "new champ" spilled from the stands prior to the opening bell.
- MJF teased a dive but, instead, ran the ropes and posed for the fans' adulation.
- Moxley beat down his challenger, then mockingly bowed as the fans rained down with a chorus of boos in his direction.
- MJF delivered a Tombstone piledriver on the ring apron but screamed in agony, his unprotected knee in excruciating pain. Moxley capitalized on the injury, countering his opponent's piledriver attempt with one of his own and driving him through a table on the floor.
- Moxley kicked the hell out of MJF's injured knee and applied the figure four.
- The champion delivered an avalanche Paradigm Shift but MJF got his finger on the bottom rope, forcing the break in a spot similar to that of Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 33 versus Chris Jericho.
- MJF pulled referee Bryce Remsburg into the path of Moxley, then retrieved the Dynamite Diamond Ring. At the demand of William Regal, he tossed the ring away.
- Referee Paul Turner was bumped, too.
- Regal slid MJF the brass knuckles and the challenger proceeded to use them.
Credit: All Elite WrestlingThe greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he did not exist.
Saturday night, in the main event of Full Gear, the devil revealed himself in the form of MJF. After weeks of vowing to win fairly, of claiming he had to win straight up to prove himself, he revealed collusion with William Regal and defeated Jon Moxley to win the AEW World Championship after blasting his opponent with a pair of brass knuckles.
The match started interestingly enough, with the combatants reversing roles. Moxley worked heel throughout while MJF showed signs of the gutsy, resilient babyface whose destiny awaited him.
Late match referee bumps and the Regal sliding the aforementioned brass knuckles to MJF erased much of the goodwill the challenger built throughout and had fans greeting him with a mixed reaction as he covered Moxley, won the title and realized his boyhood dream.
The booking, while something fans had expressed interest in leading into the show, begs one major question: what becomes of Blackpool Combat Club?
Surely, Regal cannot preside over a babyface faction that will not be missing its leader in Moxley, especially when he just helped the bane of everyone's existence win the top prize in the company.
There is also no reason for the faction to carry the Blackpool portion of the name because none of the participants are actually from there, unlike founder Regal.
Moxley will likely go on that vacation that was cut short following All Out but what becomes of BCC and Regal's relationship with it in the meantime?
And, perhaps more importantly, is Regal now aligned with MJF or was this a one-off recognition of his talent and the competitor he grew into?
There is a ton of intrigue at the top of the card and while this was not a blow-away AEW show, that is exactly the sort of thing you want coming out of a pay-per-view event.
The match was solid enough but the overbooking of the ending certainly dropped it down a peg.
Still, MJF is the new world champion, a role that was tailor-made for him the moment he put pen to paper on his AEW contract. He has earned this opportunity and at just 26 years of age, has countless years as a top star in front of him.
