No Disqualification Match: Liv Morgan vs. Sonya Deville

The weeks-long rivalry between Liv Morgan and Sonya Deville, which has seen the descent into extreme of the former SmackDown Women's champion, concluded Friday night with a No Disqualification Match.

A hard-hitting match centering on Morgan's intensifying aggression, it saw the competitors exchange control of the bout, with Deville appearing to have the match won following a devastating powerbomb onto steel chairs.

The resilient Morgan fought through the pain, fought from underneath and scored the win with ObLIVion.

A good match with some impressive weapon shots, it highlighted the star that Morgan has become and proved that Deville is still a massively underutilized talent whose place in prominence should not be in question following her great run as a heel authority figure a year ago.

Ricochet vs. LA Knight

3 OF 7

LA Knight made his match with Ricochet personal early, targeting his opponent's girlfriend, ring announcer Samantha Irvin before the bell. Ricochet took exception and took the fight to the former Maximum Male Model.

Knight turned the tide heading into the break and worked over Ricochet, unloading his arsenal on The One and Only. The babyface absorbed everything thrown at him and appeared to be en route to a victory late as he scaled the ropes.

The heel evaded the high-flying assault, reversed a rollup, and scored the tainted win via a handful of tights and ropes.

Take two very good wrestlers, put them in the ring with each other and a few minutes to work with and the result will a quality match. This felt more like the first chapter in a rivalry more than just a match for the sake of having one, which bodes well for both men.

It has been a long time since Ricochet has been involved in an actual program while Knight working with someone of his caliber is a great way to introduce the charismatic heel to the SmackDown audience.

    More of this, please.

Bray Wyatt Speaks; The Usos Address The Brawling Brutes

4 OF 7

Backstage, a tormented Bray Wyatt took exception to a stagehand interrupting him and threatened violence.

Back in the ring, Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos cut a promo about their title defense against The Brawling Brutes' Butch and Ridge Holland Saturday at Crown Jewel.

The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods interrupted and called next, stating their intention to challenge for the gold next. The Brutes attacked from out of nowhere and New Day exited. The arrival of Sami Zayn and Solo Sikoa gave the heels the numbers advantage as a beatdown ensued.

Despite a comeback attempt by Butch, Sikoa put an exclamation point on the segment, laying him out with the Spinning Solo.

This was a smartly constructed segment in that it gave fans a look at things to come after Crown Jewel, put over the tenacity of Butch and the ferocity of Sikoa as the indestructible force he has

The Wyatt stuff was great but, as has been the case since his return, it was more about planting the seeds for the inevitable revelation of whatever this incarnation of Wyatt looks like.

    • "I'm not the type of person who likes to share their feelings," Wyatt mused.
    • "It makes it even more difficult for me to do when people play with me like that. When they try to interrupt me when I'm trying to do something."
    • "All I want to do is take you over there and smash your head into that light post!" Wyatt exclaimed, enraged that a stage hand had cut him off.

Natalya vs. Shayna Baszler

5 OF 7

SmackDown Women's champion Ronda Rousey accompanied Shayna Baszler to the squared circle for her match with Natalya.

Baszler, rediscovering the killer instinct that Rousey demanded of her a few weeks back, tore through The Queen of Harts en route to a submission victory.

This was a great reintroduction to the Baszler fans of the NXT brand knew and loved. She stomped the arm of Natalya, manipulated her joints and choked her out, all while an approving Rousey watched from ringside.

It was exactly what it needed to be and Baszler will benefit exponentially after two years of mediocrity on the main roster, thanks to sub-par booking.

After the commercial break, Braun Strowman bowled over five enhancement stars in the aisle, then laid out MVP with a powerslam in one last message to Omos ahead of their colossal clash.

It was fine for what it was, but hardly a strong enough segment to drum up interest for a match only fans of spectacle will appreciate.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Rey Mystero vs. GUNTHER

7 OF 7

    Credit: WWE.com

The much-hyped match between No. 1 contender Rey Mysterio and Intercontinental champion GUNTHER headlined Friday's show.

The Ring General dominated the competition early, overwhelming the future Hall of Famer with his size and power advantages. The pesky Mysterio teased a comeback on several occasions but the champion cut him down and continued to work him over.

Down the stretch, the all-timer did mount that comeback and came within seconds of dethroning the Austrian. Instead, GUNTHER managed to thwart his comeback attempt and deliver a lariat clothesline for the win.

This was a fantastic match that further proved how superb an in-ring talent the champion is while reaffirming the greatness of Mysterio. At age 47, he is having better matches than wrestlers half his age and low-key entering his name in contention for G.O.A.T. status.

These two had extraordinary in-ring chemistry and a rematch or two would not be a bad thing. For now, GUNTHER continued his reign of dominance, begging the question: who will be strong enough to finally take the title away from him?
